.................I'm not a Chicano but lots of my friends were, I'm irish, German and Polish and proud of it also. We all cruised Whittier blvd. in the mid 60's lookin' for those hot dark haired babe 's and listened to a young Wolfman Jack from XERB radio. Went to El Monte Legion Stadium quite a few times. In my years we all got along, probably better than today. Still have many of these oldies on the original records still.

Luckily I was living in East Los Angeles 1955 - 1994. I was enjoying all the music provided to me by the radio stations, television stations and live performances all over the place. My homeboys are Los Lobos and I roaded with them prior to there incredible success. Well deserved at that.

I'm glad they kept it to SoCal. They have their own sound distinct from other metro areas.

Cruising Whittier Blvd was awesome. Millennials will never get to experience it the way it was, but watch Blvd Nights and American Graffiti to get a taste of what it was like.

American music forms: Spirituals,, Blues, Ragtime, Jazz, Country,, Gospel, Bluegrass, Folk R&B, Rock n Roll, Doo-Wop, Soul, Funk, Disco, House and of course Rap and Hip Hop---all enjoy well documented Black American roots coupled with undeniable Black American influence---whether directly or indirectly..
Latinos -- puerto ricans particularly -- explain how you created or co-created yet another installment in the legacy of Black musical expression known as Rap and Hip Hop, yet didn't create or co-create any of the elements of the 14 or so Black American music forms that preceeded it? Or why you were nowhere to be found and absent during the creative and inventive foundation outlining the forms of Black American musical expression, brilliance and greatness throughout any of this or even prior to the 14 or so Black American music forms that are mentioned above. Yet then, all of a sudden--out of nowhere, you folks come along and falsely claim latinos and/or puerto ricans created or co-created Rap and Hip Hop 50/50 half n half (which is the evidence-free and utter nonsense being peddled by fraudsters like derrick colon, radical latino, fat joe and numerous other un-informed and envious latinos. And these of course are claims latinos never mentioned, verbalized or asserted during Rap and Hip Hop's inception during the early 1970's). Latinos/puerto rican claims of "50/50--half & half creation and co-creation just don't add up---it makes no sense and are increasingly coming under heavy scrutiny which is leading to these claims being easily debunked--as they should've been.
Moreover, the hateful and many times racist criticism directed at Black American youth by the racist white media over having created Rap and Hip Hop -- latinos -- particularly puerto ricans -- and jamaicans NEVER came forward to denounce the vicious onslaught---yet 50 years later you want to take credit for this FBA art form that you did not create..

It's a a mix of different forms of music. Didn't you hear what they said? Take your hating ass somewhere else & don't spread your negativity on this subject you nothing about.

@@oldsoul1164but the singing styles, instrumentation, here’s etc we’re all created by Black Americans. Chicanos ain’t really add anything new or innovative besides singing some songs in Spanish. But they were emulating Black Americans.

Praise God for diversity , as far as music is concerned every race has something special to contribute in vibe and groove, all sounds good to me as long as it's artistically composed/arranged

So, how many know of Eddie Cano? He instituted the first ever Latin West Coast jazz and jammed for the celebrities at PJ's nigh club. He wrote the first bilingual music teaching music for kids in LAUSD. He performed live jams at local schools. Encouraging them become musicians. So did Johnny Martinez and his Latin Jazz orchestra at the Quiet Cannon. What about the Shock 13 Band? How about the Soul Pursuit and ACE Bands/Maggie's Pub? The best dancing bands in towns. Then there were more. Tell us about them folks, 🎸🎹🎻🪘
