    Thanks for sharing Nick! Ever thought about compressors both at the beginning and at the end of your signal chain? It’s what I do, optical one the beginning and boss bc1x at the end. Works soooo beautifully.

      What tone are you trying to achieve by doing this?

    • @joehub13
      @joehub13 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seanhickey1999 hi! 2 years ago… well, basically it’s to give it that optical compressor character at the beginning of the signal chain and tame dynamics at the end. What ever is thrown in the middle stays under control…

    Nice pedalboard! Curious what made you decide to put your compressor at the end of the chain?

    • @BoomstickNick88
      @BoomstickNick88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thanks for the question! To put it simply, it evens out the volumes of all the different pedals through the amp. One of my OC2s has really low volume, and my Swollen Pickle fuzz is way loud. This just evens everything out.

    • @MyBassistChris
      @MyBassistChris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BoomstickNick88 Ah I had a feeling it had to do with the drive pedals, makes sense. Interesting that the OC2 has low output volume. Thanks for the input! Kinda funny though because neither the OC2 or Swollen Pickle are on your board but I've seen them used on the channel lol

      My only issue with running the comp after dirt is you increase the noise floor as well with compressing the pre amp section from the x7. I usually aim for unity gain from everything with the comp on early in the chain.

    • @mindbodylightsound10
      @mindbodylightsound10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Jihadbearzwithgunz My thoughts exactly. Kind of a rookie move having compressor at the end especially if you play w a lot of dirt. It also will squish modulation.

    Hey Nick! So I'm looking to actually set up a rig similar to yours; but I have one glaring difficulty right now! I play a really hot active bass!!!
    what's the key to running a rig for active bass; beyond adjusting the levels on my bass constantly?
    My current headspace is to introduce a dB cut at the start of the signal chain, and am looking for something tonally transparent. But am open to any other ideas.

    Pretty similar to my bass chain: Mustang > Polytune > MXR Bass Env. Filt. > Pigtronix Philosopher Bass Micro > Boss HM-2 > amp (fx send) > Boss BF-2 > MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe > (fx return) amp

  • @jkees6751
    @jkees6751 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @AnodyneHipsterInfluencer
      @AnodyneHipsterInfluencer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boss pedals - especially the vintage ones - are far from "cheap" at least in terms of their sound and build quality. They are some of - and often _THE_ - best of what's available on the market. Furthermore, a large majority of fancy boutique pedals are quite simply clones of Boss circuits that may or may not have one or two minor additions or tweaks. There's good reason why many of the best players with the most discerning ears use Boss pedals and pay big money on the used market for older ones.
