Yeah, I'm looking at this from the perspective of "I have an 8 yr old t150 pro and want an upgrade, but the GT DD is 800 bucks". I use the t150 for ps5 and pc, so I need the upgrade to be able to do the same. I can't afford simcube starter kit thag comes with.... Nothing beyond the wheel and base, only to spend another fat chunk on pedals.
I bought this on release because I'm a Dad of two young kids and couldn't convince myself to wait to afford the logitech g pro and wasn't super interested in fanatec. All that aside, it has felt great on ps5 so far. I mainly play gt7 and WRC. I'll dabble in F1 eventually. I came from a t150, so well worth the $500.
It's a direct drive that uses an axial electric motor and not a more usual radial flux. The difference has to do with how the magnetic fields used in the motor are orientated. These kinds of motors are lighter and provide more power for their size and is the reason why auto manufacturers are switching to it for EVs. Sadly, as you mentioned, the design of axial motors means that the base is going to be that huge, sizing it down isn't as simple as they'd need to use a smaller motor, which would reduce the torque it puts out.
I bought one and I have no problem with the shape of the base. In fact it is surprisingly heavy for it's size. The actual width and height of the wheel base is narrower the the Logitech G Pro. The Fanatec DD Pro is a little smaller in height and width but of course twice as deep and I would guestimate slightly lighter

Moza doesn't do consoles, and Fanatec products break a lot and sending it OUT OF THE COUNTRY to have it fixed means you're gonna sit around twiddling your thumbs for 2-3 months without a wheel. If you live in scandinavia or south america or anywhere that isn't Germany or the US (maybe the UK?) there's no way you'd buy a fanatec setup more than once, cause when something breaks, it's just an absolute RMA nightmare. The only way I'd get a fanatec setup is if I had the money to buy two of everything and then just throw stuff in the trash as it breaks. I do not have that kinda money, and neither does 99% of people who buy wheels. And, as I said, Moza doesn't make stuff for playstation, AND the Logitech G-Pro setup is dumb. So expensive and the ecosystem is so tiny because no one bought that thing. Many people thought Logi had abandoned the whole thing until this year when they showed off a handful of little addons, none of which appealed to me at all. They released a SECOND round wheel.......... I guess that's what people wanted, a new wheel that's slightly rounder... And the handbrake/sequential looks like trash compared to the Thrustmaster handbrake/sequental, and there's no H pattern shifter after like 2-3 years of the GPro being out.. Look at the stuff MOZA has released in that same time. They have a fricken truck wheel and everything now. It's crazy how much they're putting out there compared to everyone else.. But again, that shit don't work on PS5, which is a damn shame. At this point in time, there's not a lot of options for people living outside of Fanatec importing nations for consoles. People who would get a base level Fanatec or Moza setup will not pay 2x for a gpro... And they absolutely shouldn't, cause the H shifter is probably not coming out at all, and if it does, it's going to be around 2026.... This wheel is comparable in price with the T300... It works like it's supposed to, and it's got access to the awesome Thrustmaster ecosystem, which is vast and you'll find addons that will suit you, plus you can just go back to the store if it breaks rather than having to deal with the manufacturer personally. These are its strengths. These things will sell an immense amount. Makes everything else seem like overpriced shit. Once the base comes out in a separate version for like 350 or whatever, it's going to sell way faster than they can make them. I've had tons of thrustmaster gear throughout the years, and for some reason TM gets maligned by the racing community even though this stuff is ROCK SOLID. No idea where the disdain for this brand comes from. Had the Cougar and the Warthog, awesome HOTASes. Had all sorts of wh TM wheels way back in the 90s and early 2000s, before the G25 came out. All of them rock solid. People need to stop comparing TM stuff with hardware that's 3x the price. No one reviews the G300 and pits it up against the 21nm Simcube.. As a Playstation user, this wheel is a pretty serious consideration, but probably more as a standalone release. A different wheel (or converting a current T300 wheel quick release) and using 3DRap’s pedals I think would be a pretty killer console setup. (But please Moza release something PS compatible first so I have something to think about)
I wish reviewers would look at this wheel purely from a PlayStation point of view. I’ve been using a G29 for many years and I can’t wait to get my T598 and I want to thank Thrustmaster for answering all our prayers. Not everyone can afford an expensive PC and graphics card. If anyone out there knows of a review written specifically for the PlayStation please let me know. Thank you.
The wheelbase uses a design similar to a stepper motor, which should be cheaper with better NM, but if made poorly, you could feel the steps in the motor. If they made it right, it could lead to more cheap DD high torque wheelbases.
From the people I've seen talk about and review this thing, it is extremely smooth, no "cogging" or "notching" or anything like that. Silky smooth. Some even say they kinda miss the more sluggish feeling of some DD bases because this wheel feels like spinning something that's unnaturally smooth.

I swear, sim companies tend to make their rim wheels disgusting just so shat one buys the bundle with a different rim wheel and to pay extra - but also, this one seems like a quite nice successor to previous thrustmaster wheels imho, like once again it is probably not considered a "pro gear" but a step-up from what a "newbie gear" might be.
Good review. I agree with you that this bundle would only make sense for playstation users because the Moza R5 and Fanatec CSL DD offer a better package. Granted, this wheel will be easier to obtain because it'll be sold at Best Buy in the US which means that you won't have to go to Micro Center or buy it online if that isn't convenient for you.
I've been looking forward to this one Oscar! I actually like the idea, but the plastic-y look and all that flex may make me avoid it. (BTW, the link to it in your description takes us to the RS300)
If the price goes down a bit, it's a perfect entry level wheel. I wouldn't exchange my CSL DD 8 nm for this but at least Thrustmaster is done with the dusty belt driven stuff, which is refreshing. Yes the design is odd, I am not a fan, i think price and worldwide availability will make the difference.
Can you recomend a foldable playset that doesnt fill a lot of space and compatible with the trhustmaster t 598? I heard about the playseat challenge x or the logitech but can t find information about if it fits
actually it is very similar or maybe even the same as Cammus outter rotary, it still can be counted as direct driven since there is no gear / belt or other medium to drive the shaft
Only matters if you're playing on a screen though. And if that screen is fairly low. No one should be playing on a screen now anyways. You can get a VR headset used for like nothing at this point, and it makes screens seem like ancient tech from the 70s. Haven't played shooters or racing or flight sims outside of VR since like 2016. For VR, this base is totally fine. In 5 years time, not many people will still be racing on screens. It's just vastly inferior.
@@JimmyNuisance vr headsets are not good enough yet. first of all they can cause motion sickness and it can take a while to adapt, they are a nuisance to wear for hours on end and it can be harder to be as consistent as on a screen. for now screens are much better for competition, i would use a vr headset only for immersion in short sessions.
You talked about who’s this bundle made for, and I have a question, I race primarily on PC ACC and maybe may go down PS4/5 for GT7, I’m going from a $160 PXN V900, and Moza R5 Bundle was one of the top picks. However, with this coming out, I’m split on what to choose. What would you guys recommend?
Moza products aren't Sony compatible. If you wanna play GT7 this is going to be the cheapest DD option, if you go Fanatec it's 200$ more. If you play PC only then you can get whatever starter DD bundle including MOZA, they are all pretty much the same and my guess is ppl mostly choose between them based on looks.
I also wondered about the space for an additional pedal. But in one video (sorry, forgot which one) I heard that the additional pedal comes with a wider plate.
Not sure if anyone has asked, but do the screw holes line up with the plate on the playseat challenge? I’m seeing different answers and wanted to get the group answer if anyone has first hand knowledge.
Its weird that they didn't put the t3PM pedals, i mean aren't those entry level pedals too? And the T248 sits akwardly here cuz it's not that much cheaper. They should refine their lineup a bit more.
I was wondering, I trust got a rally game and I use my Logitech g20 Wheel I do a lot of GT racing, but I was really struggling with the rally car and it felt like I wasn’t really getting all that much for feedback is the G20 trusted not really enough force feedback for rally games
@@OCRacing It seems like you started by downplaying the wheelbase, pointing out it’s not a direct drive. Then you subtly dismissed it by suggesting it’s more of a ‘toy’ compared to PC setups with higher-end options, implying it's more suitable for casual players, (btw this race to more nm is totally useless, 5nm for 90% of people is enough). You also didn’t look into the third pedal and called it too small. Shall I go on?
I wasn’t downplaying it at all by not calling it a direct-drive. In fact, Thrustmaster themselves say it’s not a direct-drive, but rather a step above that. I don’t think anyone can disagree that if we’re looking at what’s available for PC, both Moza and Fanatec’s offerings (at nearly this same price point) are better. They’re made entirely of metal, have a much better looking and functional size factor, can be upgraded to offer higher torque (in Fanatec’s case) and come with better steering wheels and included pedals, not to mention the rest of the ecosystems. I wasn’t implying it was more of a toy, I was saying it falls short in the PC market, whereas for PlayStation users, it’s certainly a much stronger offering considering what’s available at the moment. 5nm of torque is a good start, but saying it’s enough for 90% of people is a huge assumption. I didn’t look at the third pedal because it doesn’t exist yet? I’m saying if they tack it onto the current pedal plate, it’ll be extremely cramped. I’m glad some in the comments have pointed out that it will be a separate add-on unit, but I haven’t be told that from any of the material sent by Thrustmaster my way. All in all I’m my conclusion I state that it’s not competitive enough for PC-users but it is a strong contender that is worth considering for PlayStation only sim racers. I don’t see what is “biased” about that…
@@mdashrafuzzamansunny2145 going from a 2 nm gear to a 5nm base (with 10 nm overshoot) will absolutely be a big change for him. I’m currently using a pc setup with the t300 rs gt. You said you dont recommend it for pc players but what about upgrading your setup. They are gonna sell the pedals and base as standalone products in the future and I’m considering buying them (the pedals upgrade set has a new face plate if I remember correctly so the pedals are further away from each other)
"the casual racing gamer" has a video on that, he came from a T-GT II and has some good pointers about it. He'll probably have a full review in the not too distant future. Seems like a great bundle for the price.
I do believe I have read somewhere that the clutch add on will be coming with a different footplate so I believe the pedal config will be wider with that add on.
I think the Fanatec bundle for the same price with the McLaren GT3 wheel is a better product if you are an XBOX user. If you aren't playing PS4/5 then this bundle is a bad buy in my opinion.
Do these developers not follow the sim racing trends? Like adding an extension for people who would like to keep the base behind the screen for realistic cockpits. This is a great deal for beginners but none of the serious users would buy.

Granted, this wheel will be easier to obtain because it'll be sold at Best Buy in the US which means that you won't have to go to Micro Center or buy it online if that isn't convenient for you.
Can you compare this wheel to the t300? worth upgrading?
Worth upgrading, yes. It’s a much more capable base
@@OCRacing thanks 😄
@@Hello123-b7l that is what im thinking about, upgrading from a t300 to play in PS5 and PC
Unless you’re using that base at an extreme angle for something like ATS/ETS, it seems like a poor design choice. Confusing even.
This base is so tall haha and yikes to the flex in the wheel!
i believe they invent this new DD method becoz they cant deliver a durable long life DD wheelbase, im suffering with T818 as a traditional DD

Can you recomend a foldable playset that doesnt fill a lot of space and compatible with the trhustmaster t 598? I heard about the playseat challenge x or the logitech but can t find information about if it fits
actually it is very similar or maybe even the same as Cammus outter rotary, it still can be counted as direct driven since there is no gear / belt or other medium to drive the shaft
woukd you say its worth it if i allready have a bunch of thrustmaster wheels and dont want to switch everyhting out?
an axial flux motor instead of radial flux seems like an interesting idea but the form factor is a big issue
You answered your own issue with axial motor form factor. Think pancake hence the form factor.
@@OfficialComentery well yeah?
This thing is going to be flying of the shelves this Xmas.
GT7 servers gonna be flooded with newbie sim racers.
So I can't use my own pedals of this wheel on PC?
You should be able to. Just don’t plug in the TM pedals to the base at all
Do you mean if you dont have pedals it wont work?
Not sure if anyone has asked, but do the screw holes line up with the plate on the playseat challenge? I’m seeing different answers and wanted to get the group answer if anyone has first hand knowledge.
By far the stupidest thing about this is the whee rim having 4 red centering strips that in fact don’t help you center the wheel!
The strength is not there with the G920. This wheel is better for rally.
That's what i call a biased review, so obvious lol
What exactly is biased about this 😭
@@OCRacing It seems like you started by downplaying the wheelbase, pointing out it’s not a direct drive.
I don’t see what is “biased” about that…
Would you say this would be a good upgrade/replacement for my Logitech G923?
This is a huge upgrade to that
I don't think you'll feel that much of a difference. If you really want an upgrade I suggest 8 nm wheelbase
@@mdashrafuzzamansunny2145 what would you recommend for under 800,- that is good for GT7 and ACC (PC)?
@@mdashrafuzzamansunny2145 going from a 2 nm gear to a 5nm base (with 10 nm overshoot) will absolutely be a big change for him. I have the 598, tgt2, and clubsport dd plus, and dd1 i have a good gauge on where this thing stands its not a miracle machine but for 500 bucks your not gonna get anything better ready to go out of the box.
@@mdashrafuzzamansunny2145 what? Even pass from a G29 to a T300 is a great upgrade
The G29 is basically a 17 years old steering wheel with a facelift
well i mean fanatec got the playstation version too so its a horrible product for the price i think
Would you rather own this wheel base, wheel compared to the CAMMUS C12?
This doesn’t compete with the C12 at all - but between the two I’d rather go the Cammus route for the substantially more power
@@OCRacing thank you!🙏
Thank you for the review man 👅
You’re very welcome 🤝
I’m currently using a pc setup with the t300 rs gt. You said you dont recommend it for pc players but what about upgrading your setup. They are gonna sell the pedals and base as standalone products in the future and I’m considering buying them (the pedals upgrade set has a new face plate if I remember correctly so the pedals are further away from each other)
@OC Racing what are your thoughts on the T598 vs. the T-GT II?
"the casual racing gamer" has a video on that, he came from a T-GT II and has some good pointers about it. He'll probably have a full review in the not too distant future. Seems like a great bundle for the price.
@ yeah I saw that one. I’m just curious as to if there are any alternate opinions.
So how's it feel on ACC ?
8:02 the pedals port *is* labeled, right there under the port lol
lol I already bought it but really wanted to watch your review. Also they will be releasing a bigger pedal plate with the load cell brake.
Don’t be fooled. Purchase the one everybody is trying to imitate.
Did you create sim spots?
Wow, do not take the review from this guy. He didn’t even hook the damn thing up properly wow.
What exactly are you talking about? 🤣
@@OCRacing come on guy you hooked it up wrong and it took you a day to figure that out. You just said that in the video.
How does it compare side by side against the GT DD Pro
DD Pro clears in my opinion
Great review!
Vr and that base is no problem .
Anyone know where u can buy this from in the uk?
Are you able to measure peak torque? Thrustmaster claim its higher than 5 right ?
I have no way of accurately measuring it but it’s peak force does creep higher than 5 from what I was able to feel
I do believe I have read somewhere that the clutch add on will be coming with a different footplate so I believe the pedal config will be wider with that add on.
Ah see that would make a ton more sense. I guess time will tell what they do
Thrustmaster going backwards in the Sim world...What a horrid, cheap, tacky looking wheel....Ill stick with my T248 Thanks..ha!"!
should’ve atleast bought the t300rsgt that’s a way better deal than the t248
Can you review the Logitech G Pro Wheel?
Yes. Coming soon 👀
Can you review the tx leather edition?
Why do constantly think that it's an expansion to the t248 family
Their qr is plastic isn't it?
The load cell comes with a bigger pedal plate
So it indeed IS a direct drive then 😂
Playseat Formula Instinct review? 😆
Now if I were to get this wheel is there any updates on it possibly being able to work on Xbox eventually
They will release an Xbox version next year
Can't have all 3 in one. That would be cool if that was the case though
@@JtotheM you can actually do that with some fanatec bases as well as the Logitech DD base.
@@stfubar2365 its good there is an option than
do you think the t300 steering wheel has better quality than this wheel?
No, this one is slightly better
@@OCRacingslightly better? 😂 its a lot better
Great video, But I can do with anything to upgrade from my g29
The pedals only fit into one jack in the wheelbase.
Seeing that cheap wheel flex made me want to downgrade my Fanatec!
I would’ve bought it if it was supported on xbox.
I think the Fanatec bundle for the same price with the McLaren GT3 wheel is a better product if you are an XBOX user.
If you aren't playing PS4/5 then this bundle is a bad buy in my opinion.
@@whipdan674 yeah I’m planning on buying that especially with the fact that i’m saving my money for a xbox series x
Wow.... good video!
That mouse drag transition is so overused in this video.
ok let me change it real quick
0 reason to get this over a R5 bundle
Do these developers not follow the sim racing trends? Like adding an extension for people who would like to keep the base behind the screen for realistic cockpits. This is a great deal for beginners but none of the serious users would buy.
Don't think it's aimed at serious users
extension dont work with cheap plastic quick releases that is asking for trouble
@@robertcarr4172 I do like the affordability. Fanatec is way too expensive. Moza is nice but is not PS5 compatible.
@@KnowerofThings you are right. seems like a lot of people also get disappointed quickly by GT7 experience anyway. Its crazy how much people willing to pay just to experience PS5 compatibility. PC is the way.
@@propelprojectPC will get the Gran Turismo experience (and more) when AC Evo drops.
For PlayStation players is this good not for the pc guys I would go with csl dd bundle from fanatec or if it’s to much the Moza r3
Those are all more money. This is for those who want that smooth DD experience and not have to break the bank. Good job thrustmaster
@@JtotheM true but it’s worth it
@ThieoKok how can you say that without having tried the wheel?
@@Crook3d_GT because I just saw the review but don’t get me wrong it’s a nice wheel but I just think based on own experience and having seen all his reviews that the other ones are better
@@Crook3d_GT Mounting this to a rig will be akward. The base is too tall in both directions. Not seeing the Dash instruments on the screen because the base is in the way is bad for immersion.
the problems this design is trying to fix don't even exist in the current DD bases anymore. I've switched to MOZA recently because Thrustmasters ecosystem is the worst to get stuck in. Their wheels and adaptors are always a headache.
Sim racing has become more of the same.
A proper review here!!
Thank you sir 🙏
