I am still crying over his passing.... we all thought he looked "frail" when he finally returned - being tied in that room where Jack and Chad found him - HOW will they write this amazing character/man out?! Rumors have been around for awhile that Deidre has been wanting to retire - will they kill them off together?! This is so heartbreaking because it was such a shock to those of us outside the Days' studio/cast.... Maggie/Julie/Marlena - they've all lost the loves of their lives in this past year -- it's so very heartbreaking 💔

I've watched Days since high school with my mom. We were both sooooooo enamored by John Black! I had a feeling something was wrong, seeing how frail he was looking. My heart is broken 💔. I met Drake at FWA international airport when I worked for United Airlines. After he was hired on DOOL, he commuted from our shared hometown, Fort Wayne, IN to LA. His wife Victoria would drop him curbside, and he would run up to the ticket counter to check in with minutes to spare. This happened every Sunday afternoon for months until the family settled in the Los Angeles area. Sometimes he'd run into the airport "Hi Judi, I'm here. " I'd check him in and off he went. I would sometimes run into him and his wife, Victoria, when they we're in Ft Wayne. We'd chat for a minute go our separate ways. Then, one day, he walked in the airport with his family and that was it. He made it to Hollywood with his family in tow and became a celebrity. He was so sweet and such a gentleman. I will always remember that fabulous smile. RIH Drake, and always know you made Fort Wayne proud. 👏😢😇🥰
His last 2 episodes I noticed how tired he seemed. I also noticed how Deidre Hall looked like she was trying not to cry. The fact that episodes are filmed 7 to 8 months in advance and his last episodes have already aired last month leads me to believe he was leaving Days back in February due to his cancer. Is this what happened? When I learned of his death on 9/28 I realized I hadn’t seen him on the show for awhile and I was somewhat comforted that I was going to still see him since they film so far in advance but when I learned his last episode had already aired it was like losing him twice. My heart goes out to both his family and his Salem family.

When I watched Marlena and his last scene together I thought she was acting like she wasn’t going to see him again. It’s going to be rough for the actor who plays Steve too. I had mentioned a few weeks ago that it looked like he had lost a lot of weight and I wondered if he had a medical condition he did not want to announce to the Days fans. As I have said before I have been watching Days since its first episode. I watched with my mom, who I lost when I was only 18, so this program holds such a special place in my heart. Every time I watch I always say “hey Mom I’m watching our show.” Many prayers to his family, friends, and cast mates, who I am sure are devastated by this tremendous loss!
Yes, Pancreatic Cancer is PAINFUL AND BRUTAL! I lost my Dad to it in 2010. He was 80, and was clearly in pain, and suffered in silence. He would just say, “I have to go lie down.” That was before his Drs. ACTUALLY DIAGNOSED HIM! His symptoms were DISMISSED FOR MONTHS! By the time he was FINALLY DIAGNOSED, they just said, sorry, and sent him home on hospice! He was gone by the end of the week!
Okay! Belinda, that hug between Drake, and Eric got to me! Since I lost my Dad to Pancreatic Cancer. I understand the pain that Drake must have been going through, and i don’t know how he managed to work for such a long time, or if he was even receiving any kind of treatments, which there aren’t really for pancreatic Cancer. Because by the time the Dr.’s finally had a diagnosis for my Dad, it was basically, “sorry. Not sorry!” And they washed their hands of him and sent him home to die.

My mom went very fast from liver cancer, my dad passed because he had “Black Lung” he was a coal miner from the age of 12. He went on Oxygen when he quit working at age 68, and passed at age 70. I remember the last time he was in the hospital I would stop in at the Chapel on my way up to visit him and I would pray for God to heal him or take him because he was suffering so much. I even brought fans into his room because he felt like he could breathe when the air was blowing on his body, but the fans weren’t helping, he just felt that way. Also, my heart broke when I watched the last scene Drake had in the show, knowing what I know now! I cried all the way through this video of Belinda’s.

I’m surprised at my own sadness about Drake’s death. I’ve only been watching for about eight years but must have watched a long time ago because John Black sticks out in my mind. His true nature as expressed by his cast mates somehow came through to us. I’m so sorry for his family and what a void he leaves there. His kindness. ‘Dadiness’ came through and comforted me in an odd way in that his presence onscreen was comforting. Truly a great loss to all who knew and loved him and may he be in the arms of God now.

I do know what the Hogestyn family, and what Deidre Hall, as a longtime friend and on-screen "spouse" is going through, since when my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 45, it was only four months and eight days after that, that he left for God's Kingdom. That is not nearly enough time to prepare, and the only way I can describe what a broken heart feels like, is by an analogy of an empty can being stepped on and CRUSHED beyond restoration. A heart once broken never fully heals, and for some people, death from a broken heart is very real. Look at Debbie Reynolds once she learned of the passing of her daughter, Carrie Fisher. Deidre Hall has a long, tough road ahead of her, and Victoria Hogestyn, a longer and tougher one. Widowhood is a profound solitude, and despite others going through it at the same time, it is a path that each widowed person walks with God alone.

Okay! Belinda, that hug between Drake, and Eric got to me! Since I lost my Dad to Pancreatic Cancer. I understand the pain that Drake must have been going through, and i don’t know how he managed to work for such a long time, or if he was even receiving any kind of treatments, which there aren’t really for pancreatic Cancer. Because by the time the Dr.’s finally had a diagnosis for my Dad, it was basically, “sorry. Not sorry!” And they washed their hands of him and sent him home to die.
@@Luluisraging.86 I lost my mom at 18 but I was fortunate to have my dad until I was 40. My mom went very fast from liver cancer, my dad passed because he had “Black Lung” he was a coal miner from the age of 12. He went on Oxygen when he quit working at age 68, and passed at age 70. I remember the last time he was in the hospital I would stop in at the Chapel on my way up to visit him and I would pray for God to heal him or take him because he was suffering so much. I even brought fans into his room because he felt like he could breathe when the air was blowing on his body, but the fans weren’t helping, he just felt that way. Also, my heart broke when I watched the last scene Drake had in the show, knowing what I know now! I cried all the way through this video of Belinda’s.

I been watching days from when it started my Mom and I would watch it together. So sad to his Family he was an amazing actor. What a great lost to everyone on the set. Loved when he played Roman Brady. God Bless his Wife Victoria and her children and Grand children. May he Rip.😥🙏

I’m surprised at my own sadness about Drake’s death. I’ve only been watching for about eight years but must have watched a long time ago because John Black sticks out in my mind. His true nature as expressed by his cast mates somehow came through to us. I’m so sorry for his family and what a void he leaves there. His kindness. ‘Dadiness’ came through and comforted me in an odd way in that his presence onscreen was comforting. Truly a great loss to all who knew and loved him and may he be in the arms of God now.

I do know what the Hogestyn family, and what Deidre Hall, as a longtime friend and on-screen "spouse" is going through, since when my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 45, it was only four months and eight days after that, that he left for God's Kingdom. That is not nearly enough time to prepare, and the only way I can describe what a broken heart feels like, is by an analogy of an empty can being stepped on and CRUSHED beyond restoration.
A heart once broken never fully heals, and for some people, death from a broken heart is very real. Look at Debbie Reynolds once she learned of the passing of her daughter, Carrie Fisher.
Deidre Hall has a long, tough road ahead of her, and Victoria Hogestyn, a longer and tougher one. Widowhood is a profound solitude, and despite others going through it at the same time, it is a path that each widowed person walks with God alone.
