I love them! But the one thing I hate is when the rock and roll bed is out, you can't get into the cupboards! No midnight snacks if they are in those! ;)
I rented a t6 last year with rock and roller bed etc. All that money and pop top basically undoes all the insolation and money spent when up. Absolutely freezing. The rock and roller was too narrow and ridiculously uncomfortable. If your tall they aren't big enough. Nice to drive for a van though and vw are pretty reliable apart from the cheap sensors everywhere that are consumables. not had a VW camper but the VW cars are good for the most part although they have weaknesses like any brand. For me that went through suspension components and sensors at a ridiculous rate, plus the stupid engine managent system limp modeing you whenever you lose a sensor etc. Not good when you rely on them for work. Weirdly my current astra has been ten times more reliable than the golf I had befoee. Was not expecting that at all. at 120k the gold needed nearly all the suspension doing. Astra is currently on 150k and has used one ball joint from new. Nothing else has broken which is mega impressive. The golf I lost about 4 months wages to in 4 years. I thought at the time the astra being half the price I can't go wrong luckily I right Just what I noticed renting one that supposedly cost 70k.
Thanks for your input Chris, much appreciated. The sensors on the VWs can be a bit annoying at times as they are a bit too sensitive. There are certainly more comfortable places to sleep than a van, but I think it's more about the experience and being in a cosy space with your family. People also like them for the reasons I mentioned in the video, ie the love of VW campers and the overall look & style. I agree that they are expensive but most of that is down to the price of used VW vans which are very expensive at the moment due to supply chain issues. But there is a huge demand for VW campers and we love them which is why we focus purely on VW vans.
@@HighlifeCampersUK yeah I meant to add I do agree with everything you said and do think they are good vans. Certainly have one over a ford or anything french. They do look good also.
I’ve just bought a three year old VW t28 with DSG..rather than buying a super expensive camper with kitchen I just install two under bed drawers with rollers and have a huge memory foam mattress bed on top ..we just make the food outside even in winter..the luxury campers look too comfortable!!!
If looking cool is your top priority and you have the money for repairs and maintenance sure. But every single generation of VW has had higher ownership costs than it’s best competition. UK or German reliability is not the same as American or Japanese reliability. We like some european cars but the idea that a Transporter is “reliable” is just a joke. We must have completely different meanings for the word. Sure an Audi might be the most reliable thing if you think that everything besides the engine block is maintenance. In America we use the word “reliable” as “won’t leave you stranded” and “low cost of ownership.” A Transporter is going to cost you a lot of money to keep on the road and quite a few tow bills. Even if your argument is that you can (with a lot of maintenance costs) put a lot of miles on them. Well you can put just as many miles on literally any other van (they sell in the US) for less money overall. I know VW owners and they have a very serious love/hate relationship with them. They all like their vehicle but really wish it was put together properly. Volkswagen just engineers without regard to longevity or repair. Plus allemand plus mieux!!! Anyone who says otherwise is playing head games with themselves.
I agree with some of what you said but the cost of running any vehicle is going up considerably at the moment. There is no wrong or right when it comes to vans/campers, it’s down to personal preference. But whether you love or hate VW. vans, the fact remains that millions of people do love them and want them to look cool, so we are simply helping to fill that demand . Thanks for your comment and insight, we really appreciate it.
@@HighlifeCampersUK Don’t get me wrong I love seeing a Transporter or a Westie. But unfortunately I see most of them in the back lots of repair shops. I’ve had a lot of fun in a Westfalia. They’re in the back lot because dreamy eye folks bought them not understanding how much more money it costs to use them than anything they have ever been used to and they cannot afford their repair bills. So I don’t just have an opinion about it. It’s somewhat immoral to tout these things (especially the older models) as “reliable.” But like I said we must have different definitions of the word.
I have thought quite a bit about this European vs American “reliability” word. Although I myself am not being very good with my words today i know it’s a perspective issue. I think honestly the higher cost of overall vehicle ownership plays into it. If you’re simply paying much more to own a vehicle maybe the high costs maintenance doesn’t factor into European heads as much. (I know you’re from the UK but for this argument I am looping you together with Europe.)
I will also say that I have another curiosity with the word “reliability.” Beetles (or air cooled VWs) have long been touted as reliable but anybody who has ever spent more than a few minutes with one knows they break down all the time. They’re simply easy to repair and that does not mean “reliable” in any prudent persons head. I am not trying to be mean; I am genuinely curious how the Atlantic Ocean could change the meaning of a word so drastically.
I’m not getting into this US vs Europe conversation, you can’t lump the whole of Europe into one particular mindset, you are obviously looking for an argument, but you won’t get one from me. Hope you have a great rest of the day. .

3 reasons why you shouldn't buy a vw camper.
1 way over priced
2 way too small
3 it's a VW (poor man's Audi)
Thanks for your opinion, that’s all it is though. If they are over priced that means they’re expensive, so how are they also a poor man’s Audi, ummm
@@HighlifeCampersUK exactly, expensive over priced small van.
What vans do audi make ?? All vag cars use same parts
