500 grams Brussels sprouts
(Wash and clean the Brussels Sprouts under cold running water.)
Cut Brussels sprouts into 4 halves
(While cutting check to see if there is soil in the inside, if so clean it again.Discard outside petals.)
Heat the pan & add 2 -3 Tbsp oil
Heat the oil
1/2 Tsp mustard seeds
1/2 Tsp cumin seeds
1 Tsp Channa dal
1/2 Tsp urid dal (black gram)
1/4 Tsp hing powder (asafoetida)
Sauté for 2-3 mins on medium to low flame
2 Red or green chopped chillies & 12-14 curry
leaves
Sauté for 1 min on medium to low flame
1 Small onion finely chopped
Sauté for 1 min
Salt to taste
1/4 Tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
Sauté for 1-2 mins
20-30 Grams butter (optional)
(I feel butter adds to the flavor.)
Sauté it all in butter for 1-2 mins
1/2 Tsp black pepper powder
Sauté for 30 secs
Add the cut Brussels sprouts
Mix well
Spread it evenly in pan & cook till it gets
slightly charred
(Charred; burn slightly and superficially so as to affect color)
Sauté for 1 min & close the lid & repeat the
process till it’s cooked evenly
(At this stage, Brussels sprouts are ready to be served. You can add garam masala if you prefer the taste.)
1/3 Tsp garam masala(optional)
Sauté for 1-2 mins, close the lid & switch off the gas after 1 min
Brussels sprouts is ready !

Perfect recipe to have with daal or sambar! I was bored of just pan fried brussels sprouts with butter. With a little masala, this was very nice. Thank you for the recipe! 🥰
My pleasure 😊

Nice dish.Yammy.
Was the chana dal you added roasted? Or did the heating in the oil take care of that step for you?
Chana dal was not roasted . Yes, sauteing in oil took care of roasting it 🙂
