We fry our sprouts. Cut off the stalk and the outer leafs. Cut it in half through the stalk. In a flat frying pan put in some oil and some sliced garlic and Black pepper. Put in the Spouts flat face down and fry on a high heat until they start to Brown. Turn down the heat, cover and let them cook for about 10mins, then serve.

In the Southern USA, flour and any fat in solid form at room temperature is a staple for us. We are notorious for our gravy, which is made the same way; however, we don’t make gravy with butter. We use a solid vegetable shortening or grease rendered from bacon or other pork products. We also use the flour and grease mixture as a base for gumbo. In the south we can take a little flour and grease or butter and make unlimited dishes.

You and I may not use it, but I certainly know people who do. It’s common among meat and three restaurants to have at least one item on the menu with gravy or béchamel sauce. New Orleans and gulf coast restaurants don’t hold back when making their recipes. Of course, one can always find an exception to the rule, but I have been around long enough to know that many cooks use the tried and true recipes passed down from mothers and grandmothers.
@@sassygrammy1258 don't answer to bullies ! you can use as heavy grease, or butter or duck fat or olive oil as you want ! I know what béchamel or gravy are as I am from France and WE are from the same cultural cuisine, I think. As long as I know the problem that people are facing now about food and health issues are more about sugar and industrial carbs than fat, of course if you associate the two of them it is the way to catastrophy but as long as the products that you use are good wholesome farmers' stuff it is OK. I use less béchamel now because I don't want to use flour, so I replace it with crème fraiche usually ....
I have made this,more or less like that with Cauliflower but never though of using Brussels Sprouts but I certainly will give it a go now. It will make a definite alternative to sauteing with Bacon and Chestnuts. Thanks for the recipe.Edit, tried it it's just as good with the Sprouts. Best cut in halves or quarters if large.
Very nice, I am doing it very similarly, I only add a handful of sliced garlic sausages. They bring a very tasty flavor. Very filling is also a layer of boiled potatoes slices in between.
I love Brussels sprouts. As an option your recipe will do. My favorite seasoning is lemon juice, olive oil, salt, garlic and mint blendered with slightly boiled sprouts. Very freshening.

Brussels sprouts are just like tightly rolled very small cabbages. I slice them in half, and steam them in a little water flavored with Goya ham flavoring. And like Julia child I think everything is improved with a little butter. The ham flavoring adds more than enough salty flavor. Sprinkle with a little black pepper.
Nothing better than cooking them fresh. Cook in oven, add butter all around a flat pan, get them a little browned, ca do the same with iron skillet on top of stove. Frozen work fine. Just dump them froozen, with butter and your spices, yummm
One ingredient is missing from the list ( one egg ) as it showed it in the video ?? was I the only one who caught it. But with the ingredients listed during the video it should be quite simple ! Looks like a great recipe.

I add bacon to my keto version and make the sauce with cream cheese, shredded cheese and heavy whipping cream. It is low carb keto and outstanding.
