  • Mike has been thrashing his IXS Carve Knee Pads for 3 years now. He's fallen off of cliffs and slid out on many corners with them, but they've always been where they need to be to make sure he's still got skin on his knee caps.
The IXS Carves are definitely a contender for the best all-purpose MTB knee pads of all time! We'd definitely recommend them to everyone! You can snag a pair from our website below:

That was by far, the best MTB crash compilation I've seen! No other compilation had so much "pain narration", which apparently was the crucial piece, that was missing from all others.
    Now I know :-D

You ain't gangsta until you can drop through tree chutes or launch gaps with a Schwinn Stingray, a pair of shorts, no t-shirt, and a tape player strapped to your shoulder playing Iron Maiden "Aces High".
But that's when I was a kid. I'm much older now, into MTB, and need these knee pads! Great video.

Bought mine second hand about two years ago, don't go without them on any ride. Mesh got a bit torn like yours in the back, just replaced it with some fresh ones (tedious hand stitching I might add) but now they're good to last a bit longer. Had some hard impacts and walked away unscathed. Definitely the best pads, I reckon. Shot for the review.

Bought these and found that with the top velcro strap anything but completely loose, I end up with skin removed on the back of my knee. The seam stitching between the front and rear halves of the guards is nice and soft on the outside of the pad, but pretty hard nylon thread on the inside- I was pretty surprised to discover that after investigating after getting really uncomfortable on the back of my knee. I still use them, but can only fasten the lower straps which makes them much less secure on my knees. They're my first pair of knee pads so I'd be interested to try others but they have saved me from more than one injury in various crashes. Wouldn't buy them again because of that issue though.

Mike: Great review. I'm older guy, starting back after kids safely out of college. It's going to be either IXS Carve or the Flow for me. I want max protection, but will be doing fun learning that slowly but surely increases in intensity for about six months before getting too crazy. Lots of paying the price by doing a fair share of climbing, rewarded by moderate skills down trails. I really like the extra protection, the fit (with two straps -- I've 19" thighs) and the way the Carve looks on you. BUT, should I be sensible and just get the Flows for now? Thanks for your help.

those pads look nice but not for me as I’ve got really big legs and I also had double leg surgery so I was looking for longer knee pads that’d go close to my shins and I decided on the G-Form Pro X Knee-Shin Pads, haven’t had a chance to try them at Whistler yet but I’ll be going on Wednesday so will see how they do, I also got the G-Form Elite Elbow Pads as well so will see how those feel, the padding is somewhat similar style of oobleck that’s in the IXS Pads as well.

Gotcha! I personally have never had an issue with smackin' my shins so I've never experimented with knee/shin combo pads.

The Lost Co. yeah I don’t want to take the chance that I seriously mess up my legs if and when I fall down, which is why I went with the Knee-Shin Pads rather than only the Knee Pads.

They do! I had their Trail RS for years but they don't do MIPS so I replaced it with a SIXER MIPS when mine got to the 3 year replacement point.
