Finally a video where everything's right! As a plumber I can appreciate every aspect of thise video, even the thin set work cause a lot of our tile guys mess up those drains haha definitely be recommending this video to our new guys! But as a heads up I've had the tailpiece dislodge the rubber gasket on different brand drains so I've started using a little dawn dish soap on the rubber as a sort of "lube"... once again great video 👍🏻

Hey genius tell me I see you moving that tub around pretty easily what keeps it from moving or tipping over after you slide it in the drain seems to me like somebody walking over or trying to clean over top of it would just move it spin it around have it tip over looks like a safety hazard to me see I installed mine I took the feet off the bottom and I drilled holes through the floor and bolted it down I don't understand how you can keep that tub from not moving without doing that

Great video....I've installed quite a few of these....over a dozen on concrete.... More difficult depending on the brand. But I recommend bench testing the drain assembly with about 5 gallons of water in the tub on a couple of saw horses and get a visual on it....especially on a 2nd story bathroom. Also, no real need to silicone the tail-piece flange nut but a thin coat of lubricant on the surface of that brass tail-piece so it slides in smoothly. Put some channel locks on that flange nut too...hand tight isn't all that tight sometimes. A concrete install on the free standing faucet is a whole video in it's self.

Earned my like and subscribe. I was installing my tub today and couldnt find any good info on how to connect the the tail piece to the drain pipe - same brass pipe, nut, and o-ring you have. I saw your method of putting silicone on both side the o-ring and rolled with it, plus put some more underneath the nut where it meets up with the tail pipe. Will drop it in the island drain tomorrow and hope no leaks!

Excellent video you did everything correct even that free soaking tub drain the only thing that I do is I use some caulking on the bottom of the tubs to kind of stick it to the floor cuz I don't want anybody to bump it and move it out of place

Great video. Thank you for your time and knowledge. I have one question. What keeps the tub from moving when there is no water in it. It seems the rubber gasket around the drain pipe is the only thing holding it. Is there no way to ensure it doesn’t move? Clips or glue?
That would be my complaint cramac. Do a good bit of plumbing and I was wondering what legit plumbers use to hold it down apart from silicone or foam and filling the tub. Seen it done both ways. Everything else is very well done.

Great video. Thank you for taking the time to show us how it's done right. I am just starting the bathtub portion of the master bath DIY remodel. Got a quote for $32K to remodel our master, so after put my eyes back in head, I found your videos and realized I can do this. I've been watching your videos for months now, making sure I know what I am doing. I also appreciate the comments down below, real hardworking guys giving you compliments says a lot about both your skill and your knowledge. As a former video production guy, I would recommend raising up the volume on your video's. It might be my computer at work, but it feels a little hard to hear. Or maybe my nail gun is blowing out my hearing. Either way, your work is solid, and I and a lot of other DIY'rs are grateful.
Wet areas aren't the place to DIY. 32k all in is fair for a good sized bathroom with all of the materials that go on to a real custom bathroom...

Do you need to apply primer before pouring the self leveler?
I like the fact that you show how to seal the tub drain docking piece. Thanks. But, what to do do to seal the floor where the tub filler is located? Looks to me as if there is no way to assure that any water that gets out of the tub (i.e. children are having a good time) will not end up leaking into the floor. Any comment would be appreciated.

This might be a dumb question but what is holding the tub to the floor? I know the drain is in the rubber fitting but I would think that would be enough to stop the tub from twisting is someone bumps the end of the tub. I guess if you silicone around the tub base that might hold it a bit but surprised that is it.

Great video! Quick question because I am in the process of redoing my bathroom with that same exact drain. Should I put Teflon tape or plumbers putty on that crew connection. I notice you did not but just wanted to be sure.
I used silicon in this one. But with the stainer sleeve technically it shouldn’t need anything. But no way of telling a leak once you set the tub 😆
Once you have it level and good to go, do you caulk around it? My plumber suggested we grout it and that feels extreme. Looking to know what’s best.
Oh, I don’t know about grout. That would definitely crack after a few times using it.
Silicon the whole back gap if your worried about it moving. Would be tough to make look good going all the way around though. I siliconed the feet and a few dabs behind it

great informative video! Question I recently purchased a house that has a similar tub and am wondering if I need to figure out how to secure it to the bathroom floor. It doesn't rock but it can be fairly easily "moved or rotated" when empty by just me. Is this something you would recommed? Thanks in advance
buy several tubes of clear GE silicone. Squeeze it in the gap generously. These cheap plastic tubs are not like the heavy tubs which are too heavy to move.
Silicone is the only way to secure these light tubs. Otherwise you end up with a cheap mickey mouse tub.
How does the tub not move? I get it's anchored in the center, but if you push it on either end won't it pivot/twist? Why not silcone the bottom?

So U don't caulk between the tub and the floor ? Tub is not gona tip over if U lean on it ?

Have you installed a freestanding tub faucet that does not use a flange mount, just connects to 1/2 mip below the floor level?
How do you waterproof the floor where the tub filler is? Drain is sealed tight but tub filler is not

Yeah for the shower area out at least 3 ft. With kerdi membrane 👍
You can use grease or oily someting for rubber gasket
Then it will go easily inside and there is no chances leaking or getting rubber gesket cracked
In Florida the drain, "IF" its not accessible. cant have the slip joint connections he's using, must be all sch 40 glue joint
So these drains actually 100% seal when you put the male piece into the female? If not it sure seems like a leak point if your drains backed up..... I like these for minimal access situations but I think if you have access use hardline abs all the way and it's cheaper.
Tell me how you keep that stuff from not moving tipping over or being adjusted in any way shape or form when I installed mine I put bolts in it I took the feet off and used washers and nuts and bolted it to the floor I don't see how else you can do it without it being safe I guess the truth do you guys use is to have the tub for water so it doesn't move

So nothing holds these tubs stationary? Is there models like this that can be fixed to the floor or heavy enough they won't move. I have a Family that extremely rough on EVERYTHING in our home and can see this going south very quick
😆 I hear you! Yeah a lot of these don’t have anything….obviously filled with water it’s not going anywhere, but when empty pretty easy to move. I did silicon the back edge later on because of concern. I’ll have to research and see if there are models that can be fastened 👍
Most tub manufacturers recommend a dab of silicone on each of the rubber feet prior to setting in place. Won't move anywhere.
Thank you for sharing, nice work. I feel this design is bad news and designed buy someone who has never fitted a bath , lots been sold in the uk now but no instructions or accessories like your drain setup.
Do you have to caulk under the tub where it meets the floor?
I should of included that part. But I did add some on back invisible area of tub after it was set. These tubs are pretty light and easily moves without water in it. One thing I wish they did a better job of 👍

What stops the tub from sliding or moving once in place
Add silicone under the base lip edge of the bathtub all the way around before setting into place. just keep a 12in gap behind tub center clear of no silicone so if u ever have a leak it can still be detected. if you silicone all the way around the tub water will be trapped under if there is ever a leak and you won’t be able to tell till it completely damages your floor

Arent you supposed to self level the floor first before the ditra?
They are somewhat opening up to the idea now. Apparently there’s a specific Ardex floor leveler that is officially approved. Drain is 1 1/2” and the rubber gasket in rough in seals it 👍

everyone is asking the right questions. These crappy light tubs move around if you don't use a lot of silicone to secure it to the floor.
The best way to secure the tub is to have blocks secured to the floor that act like a curb. The blocks sit inside the hollow area under the tub.
Dry fit the tub, use a marker or tape the outline of the tub on the floor, remove the tub again, and put a SHIITLOAD of clear silicone where the base is going to go. You need to use lots of silicone, not just a bead on the outside, to secure the tub to the floor.

yes. that is why you need to use a generous amount of silicone to seal that gap. In fact, set the tub in silicone first. Don't wait till the end to apply the bead of silicone on the outside edge; that is not enough.
I was just scrolling the gram and this lady had a freestanding acrylic tub. However, she had a curbless shower with a linear drain. This tub was not attached to the floor and was movable. It had wall mounted faucet just like normal and drained within the shower. I haven't seen this done anywhere else, it was a huge shower, has anyone seen anything like this?
Be a tuff job re routing the hot and cold line with a concrete surface...
