I home brew my own beer and im fairly new at it. I brew all grain and you've given me some fantastic ideas for brewing beer... and some pipe dreams of brewing whiskey.
Thank you. Very nicely done Sir. I homebrew beer in Austin Texas and love it completely. Watched part 1 and 2 of your Single Malt Whiskey as curiosity killed the cat, and ... I love Whiskey ... and I want to dive in the deep-end of that pool. I am inspired. Wish I could visit for a week or two to mine your brain for its Whiskey ways and means. Thanks again and post more...
Thank you for the videos Stephen. I’m just starting out and just in these 2 videos on Single Malt Whiskey I’ve learned a ton. Looking forward to watching more.
The bottom line is, it doesn't really matter if you pronounce a place wrong, what really matters is the education that Stephen is giving us. I'm loving these vids and fair play sir for starting this vid with an acknowledgement of your faux pas.
Very well done sir.. I learned alot and appreciate your work... I'm moving into the malted barley wort process away from sugar/grain.. interesting and very informative... By the way, for aging methods, There is another TH-cam site by WCE Michael, he advocates Jack Daniels aging chips. Jack Daniels cuts up barrels and bags them into chips for smoking grills. They work AWESOME.. You can smell the whiskey in any store isle that sells them.. flavors the white liquor nicely...
Great video, sir! I would have liked to have seen how much of the tales you took from this distillation. getting ready to complete my first batch and am reading and watching videos till my eyes bleed!
I didn't understand how to do the cut...why do you seperate the difderent jars? because of its unwanted flavors or is it even health-damaging? great videos...I really appreciate them
Greetings Stephen! Love the videos! You create a charming mood and really get across the concept of place with the whole feel of the videos, visually, orally, and emotionally. Great stuff, and asop appropriate to single malts. Just one questions: where is the third episode? Since i have reached a certain age, I'm wondering about aging. Will I have to go the 16 years ro see the fruit of my labors?
Are you sure that these are for home distillers? reflux modular still? a fancy mashing machine? we are distilling with kitchen steel steam cookers in Iran
Hey man. Opened up a distillery in BC Canada..trying to find out where you went. We are a craft distillery and been working on some really cool whisky put aways..just came across this. Please get a hold of me...we have some very good convo's to have. Would love to bend your ear....cheers
Awesome video. Friends setup is much less elaborate and works great so dont get discouraged if you only want to invest a little bit. For 130$ it can be done with proffesional results too. Winco 24 qt ss pot is awesome and with a little copper piping knowledge gtg.✌
Very good and interesting video, i dont know if i missed it but what was your hydrometer reading before and after the wash? or what was your abv of your wash before distilling?
Good-day Stephen, I also love making brewing massaging spirts, but I live in Armidale! And stumbled on your videos a while ago! Are you the distiller that my friend and electrician Bret talks about?
You separate the jars when you start out with a new recipe (at least I do) and let them set a day. You then swirl and smell. It really is a matter of taste. I usually end up with my first 2 jars and my last 2 jars go back for re distilling. The center is tricky I have a special smell I look for. A sweet yet mild smell is my hearts. If its really good smelling I keep those jars as my product. The rest I will run through the still again another day.
Where did you purchase the domino oak, ive been looking online an cannot find em. By the way love the videos so far and cant wait till the next! And congrats on the rose vodka!
Speaking as someone who knows absolutely nothing about brewing or distilling alcohol, you assumed a great deal of knowledge for the viewer throughout these two videos, such as how you turned a few beakers and a jar of clear liquid into whiskey...
Hey Stephen, Thanks for your time and effort in the production of your 2 part videos, Its been very informative. Are you selling your product legally or is it purely for your consumption as a home brewer? Wouldn't mind to try a drop. Regards.
Wow! Impressive video and cellar is awesome! I would love to have a sample of what you have made:) I been brewing beer for years ans just started distilling a few years ago! Pot still single runs I Have taken some short cuts with my approach to using corn and table sugar My first approach to making whisky with a scotch profile using corn and sugar as a bit of a safety net was 60% sugar 18% corn 21% peated malt When i ran it thru a pot still single run i got no smoky flavor its pretty sweet total 120 proof Didnt know if i did a second run if it would pull the smoky peat out? Just started a new mash with 46% tablespoons sugar 40% peated malt 14% corn Used the backset from previous run Will see what this run taste like! I have never done double distillation because i just have always felt its a lot more work for less alcohol! Any tips would be appreciated! Please be nice:) Again im not teying to make a full out scotch just trying different approaches
i really enjoyed this episode as well. little bit technical, but that's just how it is, i gues. explaining it in non-techical terms would have taken hours. maybe you should have shown the bubblecap when you explaind the flute. other then that; great show.
Purge the parrot at each jar during the heads stage of the run to minimize smearing. You can use the valve at the bottom of the parrot to do this very easily.
Hi There, I have a quick question.. My father in law distills his own moonshine (bimber) which is actually pretty good although doesn't taste much like whiskey at all. He has been making it for about 30 years and so I am confident of his ability not to kill me or anyone else.... anyway, I would love to get him onto distilling a more whiskey like product. Do you know if there is anywhere I can buy a kit for the initial mix that need to ferment?? Because the problem definately lies here, at the moment he "cheats" with his 1st stage he simply mixes water, sugar, yeast and some fruit based cordial type product and leaves this to ferment for a week, he then distills this in a traditional gas heated micro distillery, he usually twice distills and produces around 5 or 10 litres in a batch. I am just lost at the boiling grain part, what grain? where do I buy it? what else needs to go in with it and when.. etc, etc.. is there not a pre made mix I can add water to which will produce this initial product for fermentation because If I can give him 5 or 10 litres of this, I am confident he can distill it for me and this make me Whiskey... any help much appreciated. :-)
Really, really enjoy your performance and easy manner. The production value is quite high and the sound is well developed. Now, having said that there should be more emphasis at the end to develop an understanding of any blending and oaking to produce the final product and of the tasting the whiskey.
Yes, same principles, the oil refinery generates different products, and this one is a single product ....... I think The Ethanol boils at 67* C.... If you boiled it at 100* C you will have lots of water
Love these videos! Definitely, want some more! Thanks again Doctor!
Hey now you’re videos are really good too.
relly yeah
@@davidmercer3792 haha just saw this. THanks mate

Good job on the videos ! Very fun and informative to watch.

Cheers mate, thoroughly enjoyed your video's. The first year I brewed up, I got some friends over for blending, huge mistake, ha ha.
Increadible quality home production. Cheers.
Professional video! Likeable Chap! Great equipment! Try a Glencairn glass with no ice! Cheers

Another great vid! with another great piece of music.
Nicely done...great music too!
I liked this, very down to earth, a bit different style to most distilling vids.
Great video, sir! I would have liked to have seen how much of the tales you took from this distillation. getting ready to complete my first batch and am reading and watching videos till my eyes bleed!
Very good Doc! I really enjoy your videos and your style!
Lots of little insights and ideas on different methods. Thanks, excellent production!!!
These episodes are great. Is there any more to come?
Very nice indeed sir. I'm looking forward to part 3.

Awesome videos doctor !
Just found this series and I LOVE it...
Loved the videos,it's good to watch someone on here who know's what they're doing...........(Especially loved the cut's explanation & the "domino's)
Fantastic video. Thank you. If I may ask a question, please. Can the oak Dominos be re-used?
brilliant, great to see the process come together
Very well done, thank you for all you work.
I didn't understand how to do the cut...why do you seperate the difderent jars? because of its unwanted flavors or is it even health-damaging? great videos...I really appreciate them
you are spot-on on that one.
but it's not only for color. it's flavour as well.
J'adore vos videos. I can tell that you are what we called here in France, a "bon-vivant" !
I' dreaming about doing it in my kitchen...
Will I have to go the 16 years ro see the fruit of my labors?
well done sir! I wish it was legal to make this at home where I live. I am totally fascinated with the process.
thanks, make it your own.. great philosophy. nice styles on the site too
Are you sure that these are for home distillers? reflux modular still? a fancy mashing machine? we are distilling with kitchen steel steam cookers in Iran
He's such a nice guy!
Never thought making whiskey could be so passionate
Well done sir! Bravo!

This was excellent! Thanks
How many Lt of wash would be the limit in a 50 Lt keg for a still dragon to distillate please ps love your videos thanks Jim

I gota make a plate still !!! Great vids.
great series!
Great video 👍
Awesome! More, please!
Thank you for the great videos! How long do you have the dominos in the whiskey for?
what happened to episode 3?
Obviously we need to wait atleast 10 more years for it to age in the casket for the episode 3:)
can you share a link to the suppler of that still
Before watching this excellent video series I had no idea one could distill whiskey while possessing a full set of one's own teeth.
brilliant video I am going to try and make some

Stephen, are you in New Zealand?
Would love to see more detail about the process and what you are currently doing (5 years later)
NICE! even better than the first video.
with the Dominoes, how many would you use? for how large a batch? for how long?
i really enjoyed this episode as well.
little bit technical, but that's just how it is, i gues.

Hi Mr. Stephen..ware i can get the machinery...?
Purge the parrot at each jar during the heads stage of the run to minimize smearing. You can use the valve at the bottom of the parrot to do this very easily.
Hi What is the difference between copper pipe with steel pipe distillation?
Single malt episode 2. (For the RICH AS HELL home distiller)
Geez. Thats some heavy duty equipment. Ill just buy it from the store. Lol
The Bob Ross of whisky
What size is your Still please Stephen?

Does the tower destiller thing work as a fracking tower in a oil refinery?
Yes, same principles, the oil refinery generates different products, and this one is a single product ....... I think The Ethanol boils at 67* C.... If you boiled it at 100* C you will have lots of water
Impressive stuff. But I'll stick to my worm, pot, and a bit of lead free solder. Does the job.
Well done
How much does all this stuff cost?
that is the sexiest still i've ever seen, i have to have one, oh and great vid fella
good job
were can i bye this destiler
Where could i buy or find that plate distiller ?
+Antonio Vieira I got mine at hillbilly stills ...But its not modular.
+John M Doc has since changed to a 5 Star Distilling setup and has said many good things about their gear
Very cool.
Still not right I'm afraid, the Y is also silent so it's pronounced eye-la. Interesting video.
God bless you
anyone know where he gets those white oak dominoes?
The information is very helpful, the background music is very distracting and the mix is too heavy, It's hard to hear you at times.
where is the smoking and aging part
You should setup a mini school to teach people how to distill
Unlike the vast majority of my countrymen I like a smoky, peaty flavor.
