Great Vid Ian. BBC's Country File did a prog on that under-runway waterway last week. I was amazed that all this stuff was there. I can recommend Quarry Bank Mill, a great day out and of course the location of the TV drama "The Mill"
We saw some of the Quarry Bank Mill. We are both Trust members but just didn't have the time to see all of it. Helen wants to go back. I didn't know about Country File. It is bizarre how much there is AND how easy it is to access :o)
It was the map reading that fixed it. The National Trust car park was being re-landscaped with additional land. They had diverted traffic but not pedestrians and everything was blocked off. We asked the staff (and showed them the map AND told them where we wanted to go) but they told us wrong. Then you don't know where you are on the map because nothing matches up. We asked some locals and they too said they knew but sent us the wrong way. I fixed it when we came across a staggered junction arriving in a village which I could use as a waymarker on the map. Maps only work if you know where you are to start with :o)
great vid, i walked the whole bollin valley way a couple of years ago, the river was diverted when the airport got another runway and they did lots of conservation work too, whats the walk on your opening credits that Alice is climbing on? would like more detail of your airport walk as i didnt get that close to runway.
I think by "Alice" you mean Helen (my wife). The climb/scramble is Tryfan (Snowdonia) going from the front (on the main road) up and over the back for a slow winding descent. The ascent is gruelling and I don't have a head for heights so it scared the willies out of me. The runway has a footpath along the south West fence line. It is the "North Cheshire Way". Pause the video just after the starting titles and the route is highlighted in Orange on the map :o)
Got lost because National Trust were churning up land with no diversions for walkers. When we asked (twice) we were sent the wrong way. I fixed it when we found a village with a pub, phone and junction that I could see on the map - then I could see what the muppets had done to us. Don't trust people lol
Not the map, no. National Trust had purchased land that was a car park with five routes heading away (one we needed) and the whole area was being re-worked (no diversions for walkers). We asked for guidance and was sent the wrong way. The incorrect signage was in a field pointing the wrong way (turned around perhaps?) The map got us out of trouble when we could get a bearing :)
Seriously? I didn't know the area had a reputation. The woodland was nice, the National Trust area was busy (and being re-landscaped by 1000 machines)and the airport was a novelty. :o)

Ordnance survey maps inaccurate? I don't believe that for one minute. Tricksters no doubt.

Henllan That happens here more than we would like. Developers do little more than try and substitute beauty for money or tourists.
Well, a first for me, a right old rant, lol... I don't think I will bother doing that one, but not to say I didn't enjoy the watch.. ☺
It was an "adventure". They don't always go well the first time of asking :o)
lucky you didnt come back mugged
