Loved it! So much wisdom. Listened twice to really catch the difference between a choice and a decision. Don't take too much time to choose. Make the choice and commit to make it work
Thank You Conor! There is a lot to think. What especially stopped me was the thought: anxiety is unprocessed fear.. i started to think how many unprocessed feelings and matters people have... matters they/we push down... matters in our lives we don't allow to be part of us... I have to think more
As a teenager I have a lot of fears such as relationships, loss of job , loss of income , I couldn't choose which job I should choose , no matter what decision I take today I am always in fear . Fear is ruining my life. Any business idea I think of I fear technology is going to displace tommorow fear was ruining me during covid outbreak and now after listening to sir I am at ease.my heart and mind are calm
On a windy bleak evening in London, I chose to enrich my reflection time listening to your gripping voice and enchanting discourse on ‘Freedom from & Freedom to’ and how human race evolved via ‘Fear’ and not ‘Unprocessed fear’ Thank you ever so much!!
Thanks Conor. I think this speaks to the concept of extreme ownership. We will tilt the odds of success in our favor by relentlessly pursuing the choice we make. Or is it something more spiritual like following our gut instinct - something that we cannot articulate or justify through logic alone. I read somewhere that usually there is no right decision - instead life is all about putting our energy into making the best out of whatever situation arises after we have made our decision.
I particularly like the anecdote about the founder of Tata. The fear I have of making the wrong decisions often leads to procrastination. It rings true to me that if I was to go with my gut, the decision would likely be the "right" one - providing I put in the graft of course.
outstanding, thank you for this mr. Conor. Need to rethink my life and make some choices, I just feel all previous were decisions, I've heard recently that "in order to be yourself you need to know who you are, so to be yourself - you need to be somebody", need to discover who I actually am and what I want, and make those choices. Thank you one more time!
I wholeheartedly think that the vast amount of 30-40 year old big gurus in this area on youtube have just reworded your content. Best find hands down in years.
Thank you so much! Exactly what I need to hear today as I chose to caregive for my mum and wondering what those fears and anxiety were trying to tell me. Love how you articulated this so well
This will be seen again while I have my journal to write all the powerful phrases you said. Decisions vs choice. Writing my interpretation down do I remember the difference! Thank you!
I was too lost to count my lucky stars until this video showed up. Thank you and keep sharing your valuable insights. They are a great deal of help to people, especially students like me. Sending my regards to you. Thank you
This is a great distinction and I often fall into this myself. I often try to remove pain rather than pursuing the best of what a good dream has to offer. Great stuff, Conor.
You are making a difference. You have the great gift of putting into words, in a very easy to understand way, what we think and sometime what we feel. I came across your videos few weeks ago and they are truly valuable and helpful. Thank you.
Great ! Particularly a tough subject to deal... to explain the differences between "choice "and "decision"... Thank you Muthukumaran, Chidambaram-Tamilnadu-India
A great insight! I feel like stuck on where to put my time and effort to after losing the job. To look for another job, or starting my own business? I keep thinking of the poem by Robert Frost “ The Road Not Taken” I am so scared to pick up the wrong way and miss the good one.
This is such an INCREDIBLE video! Sir, your idea on Decision vs Choice absolutely make sense to me. Looking back to my past, I can clearly see the PATTERN -- Giving unquestionable importance on others opinions < Seeking constant validation VS this new life -- now I'm FOCUSED only Top Priority areas, consult with "profoundly knowledgeable" people and Finally Follow My Heart to make the right choice. And I've never been so Confident, Connected, Happy and Glorious!!🌼🎯 Thanks so much for sharing such valuable insights.🙏💛💜
Great insight! I was reminded of Jinnah's quote "I don't make the right decision, I take a decision and make it right.!.. The belief and confidence in yourself that you have the ability to overcome every obstacle... The amount of effort poured into making 'The choice' a right decision ultimately proves that it was the best choice that could have been made...
So many take aways. 'freedom from vs freedom to', 'choice vs decision' and the definition of anxiety as an unprocessed fear as a result of not accepting things as they are. Thanks a lot @Conor Neill for sharing these thought provoking ideas. I have one question though. Can we make choices instead of decisions in the business world if you are not an owner of a company?
Thank you sir.... SO SO grateful for this, I'm about to take some major decisions in my life.... I think I'll rather walk into them with boldness than shivering about what other people make of them, after all, fortune favours the brave
Conor I stumbled on your videos in the early part of the pandemic when I was forced to work from home. They helped me get though the weeks and months - more than words can describe. They were the beacon of light in a dark sea. At times, I want to go back and re-watch some of them. I continue to work from my home here in Toronto, Canada, and was very happy to see today's video. God Bless you!
great video.you beauty conor .after watching your many vedios ,i have realised that it is not the big thing s but the small ones that make a huge difference in human life.you are a becon light for us in this period of time when things are looking vague
This is a very detailed and structured thinking. My question why we procrastinate about a choice and how we can remove procrastination in our work and life.
Thanks professor. I will need to listen to this several times over to fully digest and internalise. I never thought choice and decision could be differentiated. You have differentiated it and I want to go over it again and again. I may ask questions for clarification later on.
@@ConorNeill From this presentation, I seem to understand that decisions come with justification while choices don't. So my first questions would be - Should choices be made without justification? Dont I need to have reasons for my choices? Shouldn't one have reasons for choosing one marriage partner instead of another?
Good evening Professor. Nice to see you back since August 2020. Listening to your conversation on various topics has always been a great learning for me. I do admit that I did not make much decision on how to live qualitative life post superannuation from the organisation I had worked with and was completely aligned to the vision and goals of the Organisation that has helped me to perform very well. However, I seriously missed to take decisions on my productive engagement post retirement. Thank you so much for your wonderful advise and I am sure I will figure it out the right course of decision which will enable me to remain more productive than yesterday. Thank you so much sir. Look forward to hear from you every now and then. With warm Regards. Jagannath.
Superb. You are a gem. May God Bless you. It surely clarifies that some times the choice you make is not apparantly the best in terms of worldly gains or success per se and it may look like a failure to some but you know in your heart that it was the difficult but the right choice you made and only you and your Creator Knows about it so you go on satisfied with your life. Though it is a continous battle to keep your self reminding all this and here people like yourself who are larger than life play a key role of righteousness and right leadership without any personal interests Again may God Almighty Bless you more and Guide us all.
It makes a sense, very good video Conor as always. I haven´t thought about decision and choise like that, but is´t very clear. Iam happy, 4 years ago I made a choise in my life, 100% commitment and it was the best decision I´ve ever made :-)
Great video Conor, very good timing for me.....as I have an interview tomorrow and was feeling quite anxious about it. It’s really helped me switch my thinking about it!!
Thank you Conor for sharing these wonderful videos. Since the past year , your videos has really helped me to transform my thinking n LIFE🙏 Blessings to you 🙏
I loved this video. Lately I have been exploring stoic philosophy and some of your videos showed in my TH-cam feed. I watched several of your videos, but this was the one which made me subscribe to your channel. Regarding “Choosing” vs “Making a decision” the path one follows becomes material when the time horizon is long enough or the stakes for your inner self are big. For a shorter time horizon (6 to 8 months). I would make a measured decision. For anything longer than that I hope that I have the courage to “Choose”. Thank you for putting your thoughts out there, and creating this channel.
Wonderful thoughts and very well articulated. Thank you for guiding the world. Would be a great luck and privilege to connect with some one like you.🙏🙏 Respect
Hello Conor. Very interesting reflections on the distinction between decision und choice. Allow me to add something to this topic which I heard on a discussion from Vera Birkenbihl. When it comes to decisions there are also some cultural aspects that you might consider. You as an English speaking person take decisions like the French and Italian would do ( prendere una decisione). Whereas Turkish people give decisions ( karar vermek) and Germans hit decisions ( Entscheidungen treffen). Whether you take, give or hit a decision makes a significant psychological difference. For instance when I hit something I really want to make sure that I hit the mark whereas you want to make sure that you make the right choice before you take decision. How do you take decisions in Spanish? Kind regards from Germany
Wow, this is SO timely, and you're articulating what I was already vaguely thinking. Thank you!
