Bought one of these for my 10/22 pack rat critter rifle. Immediately took it right back off. The thing weights almost 3 times as the 4-14x40 Vortex diamondback I had on it.. lol I think I will be buying the Arken LH 6-24x50 for the 10/22 to get the weight down (about 1/2 the weight).
This left me in a little bit of a pickle. I hadn’t even took the Discovery outside to look through it and started to think of a remedy. My plan was if I liked it on the 10/22 I would get at least another one for my 17wsm. I can almost cover all 8 shoots with a dime at 100 yards consistently with my 17wsm so I really don’t want to pull the scope off it to put an untested one on it.. So even tho I hadn’t even looked through the thing yet I did the right thing and bought myself a Ruger precision in 22lr to mount it on. Been wanting a bolt gun to play around with and beings my friends and I have Ruger 22lr magazines all over the place and you can swap out the barrel on the Ruger it made total sense to do that route. I can’t leave nothing alone, the only thing Ruger on my 10/22 is the receiver..
Still hadn’t even looked through the thing yet and just had it mocked up on the rifle when a friend called to ask me to help spray some weeds. Kind of a scope snob and knows I typically refuse to buy really expensive optics, I throw the rifle in the truck and go help him. When we get done spraying the weeds I hand him the rifle and asked what he thought of the scope. I don’t think he looked at the brand name and went straight to looking through it. His first words were “Holy chit”… He knows I have a hard time spending money on a scope, but he guessed I paid $800.. I was watching birds in a tree at about a mile and a half away. I’ve shot 2 of his rifles that have Leupold Mark 5’s on them. And the Discovery is no way a Leupold Mark 5… However, for me and what I am doing with the rifle a $317 Discovery is sufficient.. The eye box is fairly tight (another reason it came off the 10/22), but it’s a $317 scope with some pretty decent glass. I’m sure the Ruger precision rimfire has plenty enough adjustment in the stock to get it dialed in. 1 thing if you mount it to a Ruger precision 22lr. The rail doesn’t give you a lot of wiggle room to mover the scope around. On the Ruger precision 22lr I’m using the high mounts that came with it..
10/22 you will want a scope base that extends a bit past the receiver. With a -20 moa I mounted it with Discovery medium rings. I’m thinking low rings you will touch the barrel on a bull barrel..
If I do buy at least another for my 17wsm I probably won’t swap the 4-18x44 on it until I get a chassis with an adjustable stock or a Boyd’s at 1 stock due to the eye box that seems a little tight.
Like I said. It’s not a Leupold Mark 5. But for $317 and for a bolt gun to just play around with it’s damn sure close enough for me.. lol. If I was a competition shooter in base class I would definitely have this scope on my radar to spend more money on the rifle to keep everything under the maximum amount.

i agree with you its not a leupold. and you know what i myself would never own one, just because of the price. the most i've spend on a scope was my tract $2000. blew my budget for 2 months. i'm glad you found a use for it and that it works for you. as long as your having fun shooting and it works thats all that matters in the end. thank you for the great comment. it will be pinned to the top now. !! enjoy !!!

@@UltimateArms I could buy a $2,500+ scope if I really wanted to I suppose. But I’m not putting that expensive of a scope on a $500 rifle, and damn sure not on a 22lr.. lol I’m old and my eyes aren’t what they use to be, I just need to be able to see the target and really don’t give 2 chits if colors are off a tad. As long as I can see the target and not looking through a fishbowl I’m good. lol I don’t even have $1,000 glass on my $2,300 rifle. Lol

Thx for the review. Going to give Arken some serious competition. I have 4 Arkens. Great scopes. May have to try one of these. Competition is good for us, the consumer.

I bought this optic. I am very unhappy with this scope. I would never buy another one. Arken is much better

was it a gen 1 or a gen 2. i've had no problems with this one since i got it. same though as the arken other than the turret cap loosens off on me once an awhile.
