Planning daily and weekly practice routines with all of these videos is equal parts "amazing" and "spoiled for choice", so much stuff we've been learning! I no longer have a day or week of practice that resembles the week before it's become a rotating pattern! 😂🍻 But I'm living every moment of class, and if training, and every frame of these videos. Thank you Shogo!

Will I still be able to catch up? A💡: You don’t need any previous katana martial arts experience to participate in our lessons. Seki Sensei, the instructor of the online lessons, will carefully instruct you on how to handle the katana regardless of your level. You will also be able to access all the videos of the past lessons so you can watch what every other student has learned. You can also send us videos of your progress, and Seki Sensei will be happy to give you feedback. Q❓: What is the right length of the Iaito (zinc alloy training katana) I should use? A💡: Please purchase an Iaitō at least two blocks longer than the standard length. The standard length for Seki Sensei is about 177cm, so he should use a 2.45 Shaku long katana. However, he uses a 2.6 Shaku-long katana that is supposed to be used by someone 190cm tall. If the katana is too short, it becomes too easy to draw, which is not good for training. Q❓: Can I join even if I belong to a different Ryuha style? A💡: Yes, it’s not a problem at all. The Seki Sensei himself has trained in more than five styles and various other weapons. If you don’t want others to know that you are participating, you can join the online lessons with your camera off. To have the Sensei check your progress, you can send us a video of you practicing. 🗡Join the Online Iaido Training with Seki Sensei🗡 Sign Up Here (One Lesson FREE): www.patreon.com/sekisenseiiaidotraining Interested in taking Iaido lessons directly from the 8th Dan Iaido Master with 40 years of experience in Musō Shinden Ryu, Seki sensei? A warrior must be able to attack attack defend from any position Danger is chaotic by nature, and the function of battle is to overcome this chaos through directed effort. Thus, a warrior must be able to attack and defend at any point, from any position, regardless of how "unfair" it might be.
It can be argued that there is no such thing as a perfect sword, but I can argue that there is probably no better swordsmanship systems when it comes to using a sword than what is taught by Japanese. If I get the opportunity, I might join the online lessons, because this methodology could be used for any bladed system with adaptations.
Japan is a country that is lacking in natural resources like metals - so in medieval times Japan had much less armor than Europe. This is probably the source for most of the differences between how they used to fight. In Europe it became common to fight with full body armor - while in Japan full body armor couldn't become common because the metals where rare and expensive. (What I wrote has nothing to do with what system has better swordsmanship - just 1 of the reasons for the differences)
@E_D___ Medieval Japan had armor like Europeans did. The ability to even afford metal armor was often a representation of status of higher ranking samurai. The difference between Japanese vs European or even other Asian swordsmanship systems is their approach. The Japanese had almost a millennia of essentially the same weapon being used with slight variations. A single edged curved two handed sword. Every other nation went through multiple variations of swords in the same period. Oftentimes there was multiple types of swords in the same period of time. That’s why the Japanese have a more sophisticated swordsmanship system vs other styles found in other cultures.
@ArizonaTengu I said that FULL BODY metal armor weren't common in Japan as much as they where in Europe, not that Japan had no metal armor. Anyhow, thank you for elaborating
@E_D___ Forgive me, I mistyped some details. Full metal armor wasn’t so common in either. In all honesty, swords weren’t a common weapon until much later. A lot of that stuff was reserved for nobility. But it is a fair point that the type of armor drives the development of weapons. My 2¢ is the methodology the Japanese employ could be utilized is developing modern weapon systems. If by some chance developing a bowie knife to take advantage Iai techniques that are being demonstrated would be great. A wardrobe adjustment would be necessary though.
