Will I still be able to catch up? A💡: You don’t need any previous katana martial arts experience to participate in our lessons. Seki Sensei, the instructor of the online lessons, will carefully instruct you on how to handle the katana regardless of your level. You will also be able to access all the videos of the past lessons so you can watch what every other student has learned. You can also send us videos of your progress, and Seki Sensei will be happy to give you feedback. Q❓: What is the right length of the Iaito (zinc alloy training katana) I should use? A💡: Please purchase an Iaitō at least two blocks longer than the standard length. The standard length for Seki Sensei is about 177cm, so he should use a 2.45 Shaku long katana. However, he uses a 2.6 Shaku-long katana that is supposed to be used by someone 190cm tall. If the katana is too short, it becomes too easy to draw, which is not good for training. Q❓: Can I join even if I belong to a different Ryuha style? A💡: Yes, it’s not a problem at all. The Seki Sensei himself has trained in more than five styles and various other weapons. If you don’t want others to know that you are participating, you can join the online lessons with your camera off. To have the Sensei check your progress, you can send us a video of you practicing. 💻Seki Sensei's Official Website💻 sekisensei.com/ 🎵Original Opening Theme Song "Hyakuren"🎵 Performance: Hanafugetsu (Singer/Suzuhana Yuko, Shakuhachi/Kaminaga Daisuke, Koto/Ibukuro Kiyoshi) Compositions & Arrangements: Suzuhana Yuko Mixing & Mastering: Watabiki Yuta ❓What is Asayama Ichiden Ryu? / Who is Seki sensei?❓ th-cam.com/video/2aBKmWmJpJw/w-d-xo.html 📱Instagram📱 instagram.com/lets_ask_sekisensei/ *Please ask us questions through the DM here
It’s unfortunate that this kind of etiquette isn’t found in other cultures in general. Living in America, we have a huge martial culture surrounding firearms, with over 100 million gun owners, but there is no formalized system of etiquette to show respect and prevent misunderstandings. The fact that this even exists as a concept in Japan shows a great deal of deliberate thought has been put into developing the self control of the warriors in society. Which is something very important when people are trained to use lethal force.
Could happen with any type of ritual-heavy practice. For example, the previous Tenno was very fond of Sumo, so whenever he attended there was a somewhat different entrance ceremony of the highest division, where the rikishi face the Tenno instead of facing outward from the ring. (It's been a while they used that, though. The current Tenno doesn't appear to be as big of a fan.)
I also practice muso shinden, our dojo also teaches kendo as well as kyudo. Our iaido greating is almost the same as the kendo one. With the only difference being that in iaido we also greet the katana
I remember when I was a beginner, I thought this stuff was pointless and silly, but I was VERY wrong. Reiho is the most important lesson that the Japanese Martial Arts can teach the modern student. Do not take it lightly.
Why do we point the blade towards the kamiza when the sword is placed in front of us, when it seems impolite for the blade edge to be pointed this way in other situations?
I was going to ask the same. In other styles it is faced inwards for that reason. Also, when bowing to sensei, it is on the right, making it very difficult to draw.

Im just here for the flute guy in the intro! 😂 such passion! He was performing.

I loved your mention of Budo at the end. There are so many practitioners who don’t pay attention to this. Domo arigato kozaimasu
Absolutely brilliant! Sensei is mindfully present in every motion. Thank you!
So smooth, and so graceful ❤
It was fascinating to see the highest for of reihou meant for performances in front of the imperial family
15:28
"When you have the imperial family watching you"
You know, as one commonly does. Haha

Reiho is the first kata and the one you will perform the most.
😊
One of your better videos!
Thank you for this video, for me who has low interest in weapons training those etiquette videos are extremely valueable
Thank you.
Very informative and great video
I've always found it interesting that while kneeling, the blade edge is facing the shrine during the bow, but facing the practitioner while standing.
I remember when I was a beginner, I thought this stuff was pointless and silly, but I was VERY wrong.
Reiho is the most important lesson that the Japanese Martial Arts can teach the modern student.
Do not take it lightly.
When fixing the sageo, as seen at 3:11, what things ought to be considered? Thank you.

❤❤❤❤
Why were Shinden and Jikiden developed?
I also wondered why the sharp edge faced the kamiza. I thought this was disrespectful
Thank you.
