AFX Mega-G + - What's Up With This ???

  • In this video, I look at a new out of the package Mega-G+ car. This car was purchased new in the package.
First off the pinion gear was toast. The shaft hole was not molded in the center of the gear. This caused terrible gear mesh and noise. Second was that the cardboard interior card would drop down onto the rear tires as the car would run and bind up the rear tires. Third, the rear wing didn't make it 10 laps before it was broken off.
Waste of money? It seems AFX is suffering the Auto World disease of poor assembly quality.

Wow! I just got this same car and had the same slowing down issue after half a lap. After watching this i ran the car. In a short bit it came to a full stop. Both sides of the paper were digging into the tires! Also the last mega G car I purchased has major pinion gear run-out. It's definitely recent quality control because the first 4 cars I got a few years ago have performed flawlessly. Go figure.

I agree that the body looks great but had many of the same problems when making my review videos for these new cars!

Just found this video. And I have noticed the same problems with one or two the brand new cars I bought. Really appreciate your digging into this so now that I can square away some of the problems.

Other Channels are reporting issues with this same model. Loose fitting bodies. Insert falling down causing interference. Up to complete Chassis failure. AFX needs to get it together.

Viper Scale Racing products and the venerable Tyco 440x2 wide are my cars of choice.
I never liked the MG+ chassis/motor. I have yet to see a chassis that is superior to the base Super G+ design.
I also like the LL "T" cars and the JAG products.

I agree!! The Tyco 440x2, Viper/AFX Super G+ units are my chassis of choice. I will Not purchase any new AFX Mega G+ units until they get rid of the China "canned motor/chassis" combo...

I agree as well, really love my Viper cars, the HC Super 7 is also becoming a favorite, it is probably the smoothest running car I have, the gear mesh out of the package is just super smooth. I am going to pick up 3 more to setup as runners for when family and friends are over.

Every time I buy a new car these days (AW, MG+, etc.), I always do mods before putting them on a track. Those paper interiors come out, and the windows get painted black or silver, depending on the body.

Yup same issues with the two Shelby’s and the Camaro I purchased. It sure “looked” good so I bit like you. Disappointed in this latest release to say the least.

Haven't purchased a single new Mega G+ car. Have had one used one that I bought because the MG+ chassis was under a Ken Miles LeMans GT40 body. Not the "clear" with that stupid paper "interior". Body with no signs of use and I got the car at an unbelievably low price. On eBay at that. Chassis ran apparently as intended and I immediately sold it. Cheap. No use for that chassis. Pickup shoe design is good but the rest is junk. Have been tempted to pick up a couple new GT40mkIIs just for the bodies but I won't because even if the chassis runs ok I'm not going to pass along something that might lead to someone else's disappointment. I do the same thing with Auto world cars but at least if there is a problem with the chassis down the road it isn't going to be a total loss. Couldn't care less about a warranty from either company.

I had rhe same interference issue on mine and removing the interior picture did the trick. The paint on the hood of mine is a little rough but shiny. After adding new traction magnets the car now runs like stink, no motor vibration/grinding issues and sticks to the track.

I’ve sent a number of these cars back for issues with axles and gears. As well as wheels rubbing the chassis from being pressed on the axle too far. Didn’t want replacements just my money back. I’ll stick to mega g and life like T and M cars

Don’t even bother using Mega G Plus as a racing class. Even when you get them running well, the motors aren’t durable enough to last. Racemasters? I think not

I had the same (or worse) issues with my AFX Mustang ... AFX sent me a replacement chassis today, but this has been my (3) defective unit in 2- months. I have recently focused my hobby activities on buying or upgrading these chassis: Tyco 440x2, Viper V-spec, Super-7, or AFX Super G+ products.
I'm Done with AFX "China canned motor" products... No more Mega G+ products for me!!

    • @jeffnorbert1871
      @jeffnorbert1871 ปีที่แล้ว

They've had a variety of "quality control issues" over the years. I believe they do want to sell a reasonably good product. Had phone conversations with them years ago about problems with track. The cause of the problem was explained and since I had some experience with plastic injection molding process, I understood and believed what they said. Some problems are not easy to fix. But.... what AFX should have done years ago is move production of everything out of China. There are specific reasons why that would have been smart. It would have probably cost a small fortune but look where we are today. Anyone who deals with Chinese manufacturing knows what the issues are some like Terry have been lucky enough to get the desired results at least some of the time. Only he knows how hard or easy it's been. What I do know is the stuff he has had made that I have purchased is quite good. AFX on the other hand is practically on the same level as Auto world now and that's pretty pathetic. I actually wonder if they will survive the fiasco that Mega G+ is.

Bought Camaro & Mustang (blue/orange) BAD azz bodies w/appearance & detail. As a runner....NOT. HAVE NEVER HAD TO TWEAK A CAR MORE. Have 120 ohm set that g plus 1.5/1.7 usually run great. Especially the 1.7in. Chassis. One is still slightly resistant to sensitivity of controller. The 2nd group that Mustang red & Camaro yellow seem to be better runners!!!
