Trying To Fix... A Sega Game Gear. - Pt 2 - [New LCD screen installation]

  • I bought a Sega Game Gear some years ago from a car boot sale.
    It pretty much sat in a box in the attic since then.
    In a previous video we repaired the audio board, power supply board and the main board but unfortunately the original LCD screen was beyond repair.
    I managed to get hold of a replacement screen so let's try and fit it and get it back to full working order.... oh and mistakes WERE made!......

    The LCD makes a huge difference on the Game Gear, great job on the install, and I was wondering about the film when you put the screen in, but I came to the conclusion that you where test fitting 😊

    LOVE the Double Dope. I had a bit of that myself, Yesterday, mowing the Lawn, cutting close to lay some more radials down for my DX Commander 12m antenna, caught a guy line and bought it crashing down, split in half. Today going to Heathrow to overnight and pick mate up Tomorrow, turns out when we asked him when he was coming back he said 24th May, he MEANT getting on plane in Australia 24th May which means he will arrive UK 25th May. we were at Membrey services before we worked it out, around 180 Miles for a Burger, did get my hair cut on the way back though. So off to the Smoke again Tomorrow :-)

    Good Vid. In micro repair BLU TACK to hold components/ PCB boards etc is your best friend. Assume its called same thing in UK? I even use it in "normal" full size repair to hold components on opposite side PCB whilst solder in on other side...Cheers

    The new lens has a different size viewing hole to compensate for the bigger screen. That's why it was included.

      Hi William, I've compared the two bezels and both are the same size opening. The newer bezel is very slightly smaller opening of about 1mm difference, and the writing is indeed of poor quality compared to the original screen. The angled bezel for the LCD is actually part of the top side of the case.

    • @williamgregory5843
      @williamgregory5843 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strange, yours must of been a different varient of the screen than i got. The ips I put on my gamegear had the lense with no writing but a bigger opening. I had hoped they just updated it to make it (slightly) more official looking lol. (p.s. my bulb died AND one third of the screen did I ended up in a my mate Vince senario lol sound still doesn't work.)

    Hi. Love watching your fixes. I have a Wansview inside camera. It's worked fine until we had 5 power cuts on a row. I decided to have a go. But unfortunately I knocked off a connector. That's not the problem. Would younbe interested in having a look? If how do I arrange to get it to you please?
    Many thanks Martin

    That bulb probably uses a ton of the batteries, just getting rid of that probably gives you twice the play time! Do they sell a mod for video out? I remember one streamer payed bank for one to be installed, not sure if it was because no one made kits or he just didn't know how to solder at all.

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, totally agree the battery life should last a lot longer. I'm not sure about video out, but the mod I used and other mods have a VGA output, although VGA isn't commonly used that much these days.

  • @RVNR2022

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video. Do u by any chance offer this as a service as i have a recapped gamegear that needs a new screen

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sorry, unfortunately not as this was a device that I already owned. If you have already re-capped it, then fitting this version of screen wasnt actually too hard. I'd say about as hard as recapping it. And at least you have a video now to copy from 👍

    You soldered every marked pin apart from number 68. Didn't that one need doing?

    • @BuyitFixit
      @BuyitFixit  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it was needed depending on the revision of Game gear it was being fitted to.
