    A childhood friend had one of those cheap combination safes where with a bit of tension you could feel the combination wheel hit the grooves.
    For kicks I always opened it without him seeing and put something like a little note to wait for him.

    Pretty please can you do a video showing the whole re-pinning process. So putting the pins into the Bible without having to create a practice lock with the filing technique you showed in a previous video. The main reason I ask is so I can modify and re-pin my household locks. Thanks a million, your videos got me into locksmithing and now I can pick every lock in my house and everything up to security pins.

    I have been using a cone shaped bit, and I grind the shank above the cone so you can get a really sharp, really flat edge on the countermilling

    Hello: The most interesting story is Bosnianbill's first steps and actions in learning lock picking. It would be detailed and quite long, but it would be fascinating. What clever tricks did Bosnianbill learn in his beginnings that made him so amazing today? I'm struggling to get to stage one, I think thousands of others' struggle, too.

  • @Degovernator

  • @chessguy125
    @chessguy125 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    When countermilling, why did you use a bit that is shaped like a ball? wouldn't that leave rounded off countermilling, making it pick like a normal spool pin? I think you should have flattened off the ends of the cutter first.

    • @jeffk204
      @jeffk204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect it is just a matter of what kind of rotary tool bits you have on hand. That tiny ball end bit is pretty common in mot of those tool kits and it does a good enough job. If you have access to a different shape that also fits in the pin hole then that would certainly work. A "sharper" counter mill would be nice. But I think Bill was showing what can be done with off the shelf stuff that most of us might already have.

    Bosnian Bill... love watching your videos, I am a police officer and amateur lock picker. I have a couple questions for you or anyone else that can help me. I have a crappy pick set which is okay for messing around. I am however looking for a better set for work. I need something small for everyday carry that will have the basics in it. A set that I can have on me at all times (at work), that is convenient and not too bulky. Let me know if you have any recommendations. Thank you and keep the videos coming, they are very entertaining and informative.

      if you didn't figure it yet, a "number 5" is not an M5. freedom measurements.
      it looks pretty close to an M3, though i have no experience with any of this.

  • @arzo9986

    New to pinning. Do drivers generally have to be the same length? Or does it not matter if they're all different lengths? Is there a physical difference between drivers and key pins? Is there a point in putting spools as key pins or should they be mainly kept as drivers?

    • @ChilledfishStick
      @ChilledfishStick 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't make a key. He chooses the right pins for the key he has.
      When a key goes in, it raises the pins, so they'll be flush with the top (or bottom, depends on the type of lock) of the core. If you want to change the pins, all you need to do, is insert the key,and find what length of pins you need to put in.

    • @Josef_R
      @Josef_R 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chilledfish
      And I thought locksmiths had more skill than that. But I'm pretty sure they can make new keys for new patterns.

    • @ChilledfishStick
      @ChilledfishStick 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keys for keyways like this one, are basically a series of different heights to hold the pins in the correct height.
      You can theoretically get as crazy as you want, but mostly, lock makers use a set of heights for their pins, so it's kind of a combination lock. For example, a lock with 5 pins, that can have 6 different heights, has more than 15,000 different combinations. The challenge from these kind of locks comes from the type of pins, and those drillings.
      In any case, keys with extreme bitting (changes in heights) can make it more difficult, there are plenty of tricks that can make a lock difficult to pick, outside of the shape of the key.
      Of course there are other types of locks that can work very differently, with crazy looking keys.

    this is a lot easier if you put it horizontal and use a steel pin to keep the milling consistent.

    • @jeffk204
      @jeffk204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean you use the steel pin as a depth stop? That sounds like a good way to to prevent you from letting it drift around.

    • @dalton3231
      @dalton3231 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes. it works great for both the core and the Bible. those bits are tough to keep exactly where you want them. I also use the smaller version of the bit he uses.

    • @jeffk204
      @jeffk204 8 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @joshpc90
    @joshpc90 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    use a bottoming tap next time more full threads and if u do it by hand and break the chip every turn will give super sharp threads as with the counter mill use a dove tail cutter will love to trap spools with the sharp edges

  • @rollin18wheels

    I managed to violate the core to that American lock I emailed you about asking where I could acquire new guts and low and behold, it was keyed the same as the Master lock I bought just to fidget with and learn about locks, so my seemingly benign Master now has a nasty assortment of American pins in it as well as some of the commercial spools from the factory and a 6th pin that rides the tip of the key. Come hell or high water, I'm gonna whoop the thieves that the local LEOs seem to ignore that have gotten me for a few guns, some fishing equipment and my damn motorcycle.
