Keep in mind that Rex was wearing phase 1 armor when he was shot by a sniper, the chest piece probably saved him.
did you not see the episode? That shot cut clean through both his pauldron and his chest plate, in fact I don't know what the crew behind Clone Wars was thinking giving fives an extra chest plate and not Rex.

@@BlueTeam-John-Fred-Linda-Kelly wasn't Five's extra chest plate part of the ARC trooper kit? I make this assumption because all the ARC Troopers in EA's Battlefront 2 has the extra plating.

if a soldier in our world wearing a bulletproof west gets shot in the chest with a sniper, he will get knocked out as well maybe break a few rips but he wont be dead
thats what armor is for, reducing damage as much as possible, there wouldn't be a purpose for clone medics if all clones shot by droids died on the spot
Rex’s armor being Welded together with part of his phase 1 and phase 2 was an amazing Idea, and Rex seems to be the only Clone seen thus far who held onto remnants of his Phase 1 Armor.
I thought the Markings meant how many Days Or years he was still fighting in the war for. Didn’t think he kept count like most other clones(Even in Rebels he stated he didn’t keep count).

Tracytron I always thought the tally marks were about how many Days/Months/Years Rex was into the clone wars. We even see Tally marks on clones like Waxer early on in the Ryloth Arc
Yeah if it was for kills there likely wouldn’t be enough space for all the other art on his helmet. Same with days fought. Victories makes more sense to me.
If it kills, probably even his whole armor cannot contain the amount of kill count he got. Even normal Clones would probably have at least a thousand kills during the war.
KornKernel unrelated but it reminds me of how Clones in Season 1 like Chopper would take possession of Battledroid fingers.
Whats weird is that we never see any other clone throughout the Series have that kind of problem or obsessive behavior, So chopper must’ve been one of a kind, which is ironic considering he’s part of a clone army 😅
I think Wolffe had a rather wicked armor scheme in all three phases.
My favourite set he had was in Season 6 wherein he, Plo and Plo's bros were searching for Syfo Dias's (not sure of spelling) signal.
His desert armor is pretty sick

He is brand NEW type of clone - ACCT.
Alpha Chad Clone Trooper
Due to increased losses, it was decided on Kanino to modify some clones for no-weapon fighting and supply them with hardened double-layered P2 armor sets. Depending on type of this clone, they were either missing arms or legs (having artificial ones to move over battlefield) together with enchanced muscles of remained limbs AND force-field gloves/boots to strenghten attacks even more.
Here we see legendary ACCT-0001, first trooper of this generation. Legends say, he kicked to pieces whole droid army on lower levels during battle, both by inspiring and enraging from commander Thorns death...

In season 6 episode 1 when Anakin, Rex, and Fives were getting Tup back, Rex says to Anakin: "that's why he's the arc trooper," meaning Fives. Rex might've had arc training, but I dont think he's "officially" an arc trooper
Technically Rex is in ARC Trooper, but he's also a captain attached to a Jedi and Padawan. He doesn't get to do as much crazy stuff as a regular ARC might find himself doing.
He's probably comparing Echo to the other 501st members like Tup, not himself.
All Clone Commanders are technically ARC Troopers. They are trained like ARC Troopers.
Makes sense. You can still get a Ranger tab and not be part of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
Correct: Rex, Cody, and 98 other Clone Officers recieved Alpha class ARC Training. The ARCs seen in TCW Season 3 onward are of the Beta class (An attempt to create new ARC Troopers by promoting high performance Clones and giving them advanced training).
Brought to mind this little line from RC-1262 aka Scorch: "I gotta thank whoever designed this Katarn-class armor for us. It's great stuff. But obviously they never thought we'd need to sit down. Ouch."

Another reason to love Rex, he's so smart and logical that he didn't just take what they gave him, he figured out what the perks of each armor set was then combined them to make the best armor possible. He can adapt to any situation and see all the possible options.
He says in rebels that he didn’t count kills. Meaning the tallies are most likely brothers he’s lost.
Or, more likely, simply completed missions.

I want to know more about what Rex and Wolffe did with the rebellion after Star Wars rebels. I think it was retconned that Rex was in fact part of Han Solo’s pathfinder team that was sent to Endor in return of the Jedi.
It'd be nice to see Luke, Ahsoka and Rex talk about Anakin I think.
My head canon has it that they spoke to him about Anakin and it's why he was so hell bent on bringing Vader back to the light.

Back in "Legends" there were story about Luke and other Rebels crushing on planet and finding aged clone trooper. After fight vs Empire, this clone stayed with them and was training Rebels troopers. So it's either Rex or dat clone trooper.

I would really appreciate a video dedicated to the differences between other clone types and the Arc Troopers
The primary difference between standard clones and ARC troopers is ARC's were, in the beginning at least, trained by jango personally to be the GAR's premier Black ops soldiers, sending singular troops or small squads out behind enemy lines to wreck absolute havoc. If you think about the role halos Spartans had before the Human-covenant war you wouldn't be to far off.

There are three classes of ARC troopers.
1. Null ARCs- super clones that had a high failure rate and where near uncontrollable, but turned out to be some of the greatest players in the war thanks to kal skirata.
2. Alpha ARCs- where 100 semi-super clones trained directly by jango fett.
3. Cross trained- clones from high ranks or specifically chosen due to skills or feats in combat.

Looking at visors of both helmets I'd say that phase 2 had a bit better peripheral vision than phase 1, which field of view concentrates forward similarly to ancient Greek helmets, especially those made for hoplites that due to their formation did not need especially good vision on sides or medieval great helmets that due to their construction provided quite a lot of protection while severely limiting vision
Phase II had better visibility. Phase II armor was better in every regard to the Phase I armor, with the exception of not having an internal oxygen supply. It was stronger, lighter, more comfortable, and modular. Rex is just nostalgic.
@@jmmproductions6741 Phase II had an oxygen supply. It was just optimal to attatch an external rebreather as they will keep the Clone alive in space even if the Armor fails.
I believe it was stated in one of the technical books that Phase 2 lost some of the electronic optics from the Phase 1 to save weight. That's 2nd hand info, though, as I saw it in another video. From a headcanon sort of thing, that makes sense to me - a lot of the more specialized helmets had a lot more bulk around the eyes in the helmets, probably to add more vision capabilities. Heck, it could be as simple as they changed the HUD and Rex didn't like the new style, or he preferred the smaller visor because it had a smaller hole to get shot or blinded by a flash through.

I’d actually like to see a video on the different armor variants for commanders. Cody had a jetpack and an extra light on his helmet, and they show Wolfe in a brand new scout-like armor in one episode
I’d like to see a video about Arc Trooper armor.
Mixing and matching armor pieces like that sort of reminds me of IRL field modifications that soldiers made, specifically the "improvised Jumbo" Sherman tank that was made by cutting the front armor plate off of a disabled Sherman and welding it straight onto the front of a working one. The suspension and drivetrain didn't agree with it at all, but tanks with the modification worked very well as breakthrough vehicles where the regular Sherman wasn't up to the task.

Rex's Phase 2 armour is the best looking Clone armour in my opinion, another thing I like about it is that Mandalorian Jaig Eyes only appear on the best Clone Captain from both Clone Wars shows (Fordo being other one with it).
Also for the point of Phase 1 armour, why didn't the Kaminoans just test it on Jango?
Phase 2 experimental (ARC Armor) has always been my favorite. It’s like a factory made version of Rex’s armor, blends of the older phase one and of the yet to be mass produced phase two. And the antenna fin somehow makes the phase 2 helmet look even cooler.
I feel like before they even released phase 1 they should’ve had Jango test the armor by performing certain drills and going through obstacles so he could give his feedback.
I'd wager that Jango did test the Armor. And found it acceptable for a disciplined Soldier. And likely didn't care if it snagged a bit.

@@seoul08 Mandalore isn't a race. It's a creed. Jango was seen as "Non Mandalorian" by the Sundari Pacifist Mandalorians but he was definitely Mandalorian in much the same way Din Djarin was.
I always thought that the reason Rex customised his chest piece was so that the front would be heavier and more protected as it’s phase 1 and that way he would have more protection but still be lighter with the phase 2 back and side plates. This always made sense to me as he was nearly killed by a sniper shot from a commando droid but was saved by phase 1 armour!
I would definitely like to see a video explaining the details of ARC Trooper armor.
To me, I feel like Rex is the most abused clone in the clone wars. He watched some his friends that he was close to die. He found out Echo was alive but then Echo leaves him to be with the Bad Batch. Rex has to watch his brothers die everyday. Ahsoka left without saying goodbye to him. And let's not forget what happened during the Umbara Arc.
And he either thinks annikin was murdered by the clones or Vader Or he knows I'm not sure I need to look into it
I think it would be an awesome scene to have Rex be discussing the armor changes and what not with other clones and eventually his general. Even so to the point that Anakin helps him make all the changes he wants.

Quite interesting that Rex was allowed to customise it so much. Most military organisations get a bit iffy if one of their officers deviates from the uniform, even if its a cultural reason rather than for the sake of it.
Also quite interesting that the phase 1 chest plate is so much more resilient to damage than phase 2. I can understand replacing the arms, legs, back and body suit to make it more comfortable, but if the survivability of the phase 1 is so much better then why not keep the phase 1 chest, as that's what the droids are most likely to be shooting at. I guess Rex was a bit smarter than the armour designers with that one, given he survived the clone wars.
One thing I don't get with the clone armor and any other storm trooper armor: why do they need diaper-armors?
Just look at the Mandalorian shown, the Mandalorians look just fine without it. Heck the scout troopers would look just as good too.
That “diaper armor” is kind of protecting some very valuable bits mate
Ever dive for cover and rack yourself on a rock buried under leaf litter, or slide behind a fallen tree and wind up gouging your butt cheek on a very pointy stick you didn't notice half buried in the mud? Even with adrenaline pumping, I can tell ya you will feel those. Lessons learned from airsoft in the deep woods: wear a cup, pad your butt.
While aesthetically it's stupid, the reason why would probably be for protection of that part of the body while still maintaining some degree of articulation.
@@leviosdraekion6993 exactly - that part of body besides housing male jewels has few important blood vessels that severed can lead to bleeding out in relatively short time, so a bit of protection that wouldn't limit mobility didn't hurt

i also think that from a writing perspective he kept the phase 1 visor to reflect that he is still good after order 66. in star wars episode 2 the phase 1 clones were the heroes of that movie. But after the armor change, they became the vilans in ep. 3, so i think the visor is there to symbolize how he will always be a hero.

I had noticed for a while that he had the phase 1 visor and when I looked it up I learned that it just had better "stats" if you will and he also kept some parts of phase 1 armour for more mobility

That’s really cool about Rex, I had never really realized what all was going on with his armor until this video. I knew things about his armor was different but I hadn’t picked up on what was. Also for another battle analysis the space battle at the beginning of episode 6 from season 1 where they use the AT-TEs to hit the separatists munificents from behind.

Thinking about it, it'd make sense if he melded the best aspects of both to some degree - the heavier Phase 1 chestpiece (possibly with parts of the Phase 2 welded to it for additional armor), the visor section of Phase 1 helmets with the top and mouth portions of Phase 2 helmets, the lighter joint plates at the shoulders, elbows and knees of Phase 2 with some modified arm and leg armor plates of Phase 1 (possibly cut down just a little bit in length to allow greater maneuverability). It's probably what allowed him to survive being sniped by droids in that particular episode.

I think it's really neat that the republic was fine with clones customizing their armor as well as painting it to make them unique
Phase 1 and 2 armor looks the same from the neck down, am i missing something? Only difference i see is the different helmets and that phase 2 has more paint on their armor.
From a visual perspective, there is no difference between the phase 1 and 2 body armor, though there were some changes to the rigging to allow for better flexibility of the models, as the original armor was designed without any thought to a human being moving in it. That said, if the ARC troopers did indeed test new technology for the Phase 2 armor, it's possible that the phase 2 chest had better armoring in the front, shown in the supplemental armor plates worn by arcs and therefore the reason Rex might choose to keep that part of the armor.

I've heard that the tally marks are similar to CC-"Gregor" where they indicate times he would have died without the protective equipment.
You know I wasn’t sure how I was gonna feel about Rex with a phase 2 helmet. I just grew so fond of the phase 1 style. But when they unveiled the store of this one being a dynamic mix of the two I can’t help but only want to see him with this helmet.
I would love to see a video about all the different Phase II Clone helmets. For example, Rex, Cody, Neyo, Wolffe, and Bacara spring to mind. As well as that unnamed clone Cody was talking to in ROTS after Obi-Wan gets shot down.

Rex being the rank of ARC Captain (as opposed to a regular Clone Captain) makes a whole lot more sense for his position of command over the whole 501st.
Rex was an arc trooper during the battle of geonosis and although he didn’t have the status quo of an arc trooper, he basically could customize his armor and be an independent thinker cause of his upbringing and that’s also why he has the distinct arrow markings on his helmet which signified high regard among his mandolorian trainers
Always wondered why it bothered me that his helmet looked so different, and I can't believe it took me so long to find out that it's a mix of phase 1 and 2.
The fact that rex has phase one/two mix symbolises how he never quite made the transition to the empire and order 66, unlike his fellow clones

There does seem to be a couple inconsistencies regarding Ahsoka and Rex burying certain items in the novel. Rex having his armor afterwards and Ahsoka having blue sabers as opposed to the green described in the book. Either they’re inconsistencies or Filoni has something small planned for that moment (though I’m leaning for the former).
