I think it's just more plot armor that allows this to happen. There's no way the CIS overlooked a hack that allows B1s to kick enemies in the head, dual wield accurately, take down several enemies, and think much more creatively. Maybe the explanation is that Palpatine sabotaged B1s to be far worse than they could be, but otherwise this makes no sense, and is just plot armor given by the writers.
@@ツ大德 ? The reason I explain this is to distinguish between B1s being garbage, and bad writing. When the average fodder is terrible in every way shape and form, it's difficult to make the "bad guys" in a story actually feel like a threat, and Star Wars in general suffers from enough plot armor already.
I think a cool theory that I just thought of was that batz was the leader of r2-d2s droid squadron when they went to the citadels and that since batz circuit was destroyed which was at the top of his head the leader of the squads head was blue to replace unlike the other 2 droids
I am very confused. This armor looks so close to what he normally wears, and it doesn't look like the armor other ARCs wear. The pauldron and kama I considered markers of ARC trooper training, which basically meant to me you could be classified as an ARC. And I never considered ARC Trooper really be a big promotion. Like if you were a private that got promoted to be an ARC they would give you a rank of like sergeant, or some other NCO rank, but I always considered it more of a specialty trooper not so much a rank. Rex definitely outranked Echo and Fives, bur he was below commander like Captain -> Commander -> General.
because this is probably just artist error. There are so many both Dark Horse and Marvel SW comics where clone armor is just straight up drawn wrong (fins on phase 2 helmets, phase 1 helmets during order 66, phase one helmets with BARC trooper visors) or clone troopers are drawn with the wrong guns (the clones in the Kanan comics all carry E-11s because those are what the artist used as reference material).

It's not really said whether this is a yes or a no, but I doubt that they would promote an officer to be an ARC trooper. ARCs are usually picked for showing independence due to them being a special operations unit.

Both Rex and Cody are technically ARC troopers as they’ve had previous training on Kamino. It was used as to help further their careers as officers in their respective Legion/Regiment
The tally marks symbolize brothers lost in war. I used to think it was campaign or kill marks for all the battles fought, but it was confirmed by Canon sources to be homage to those lost.
I don't think he was insinuating that he Isn't an arc trooper but rather justifying to Anakin why he an Cody chose to promote Fives to Arc trooper following the battle on Kamino. I could very well be wrong but that's what I got out of it when I heard that line.
well personally i believe this was just this artist's interpretation of Rex's phase 2 clone armor. it does share hybrid similarities with the armor we see in the show. Notably, it has the phase 1 visor and standard phase 2 grill. The only differences are the added crest and no tally marks. He is also not sporting the double pauldrons. One could even argue that this is his armor earlier in the modification process. And while yes canon sources call him an ARC trooper he was certainly never called one in the show, which leads me to believe this was a retcon made later on. On top of all this, an even stronger argument that this is merely artistic liberty is that clone armor in modern star wars comics has been nothing if not inconsistent. In the vader comics for example, the issue where he kills Jocasta Nu, the shock troopers visors switch between phase 1 and 2 style over the course of a few panels and sometimes even had a flat surface on top like a stormtrooper. Also Fox's helmet was just shaped oddly in the comics as well. I doubt they are verifying the accuracy that closely. I mean this comic even shows 501st troopers with highly irregular markings.
I think this is a situation kind of like the US Army right now where phase one (the US Army case old UCP) is no longer authorized for where and the only two that are offered for where are arc trooper armor and phase two armor (scorpion and OCP for the US army) sorex probably told armorer what modifications he wanted done and turned in his phase two so he could do the work and he had to have armor to wear and he couldn't wear phase one because it was no longer authorized but he has arc armor so he wore it why his phase two was in "the shop".
How is this armor different from his usual phase 2 armor? The only difference i see is the helmet fin, but not even that is normal arc armor since rex still has the t shape visor. I love you man but you trippin on this one
Well, could be wrong, but notice the armor and notice Obi wan's armor. In the show season 3 is when we first see Obi and Anakin change to more Jedi like robes, but Rex still had phase 1 armor. Here is prior to that change for Obi wan, but Rex is clearly wearing the phase 2 arc armor. It's not exactly all that special compared to phase 2 armor as far as I know.
Anyone else wish the ARC Troopers had more unique looks? They all wear a pauldron, kama, same number of pouches and bags on their belt, use DC-17 pistols primarily, etc. That's why I appreciate Jesse when he became an ARC Trooper because he didn't use a rangefinder like the rest of the ARC Troopers (Colt, Blitz, Fives, etc), so he was a bit more unique. It would've been cool to see more ARC Troopers in general like Boil being promoted to ARC Trooper, or seeing one that didn't use a pauldron and/or kama. Maybe his helmet has a visor like Cody's helmet.
I know there is stuff that says he’s an ARC trooper in cannon, but there is also a lot against it. I also think the ARC helmet was the artist’s mistake because people do accidentally put fins on P2 helmets sometimes. If they were intentionally making him an ARC, they would have given him the rest of the ARC armor like the extra chest armor. If this took place with P2 armor, that old ARC helmet would be phased out for a regular P2 helmet like fives had and books usually make some mistakes in them so I think he probably isn’t an ARC trooper. Just my Opinion.
Hey man I have a Q, you mention this is the only canon battle where Rex wears his ARK trooper armour but to me, it looks like his normal attire, am I missing something? Keep up the good work :D
I don't think its his ARC armor I think as it was one of the first battles after the armor change from phase 1 to phase 2 he didn't have time to weld his phase 1 armor with his phase 2 (which gives his unique look)
While I find this interesting, it's likely the design of Rex's armor in the comic is either a developers oversight, continuity error, or both. There was a comic set in 22 BBY that featured a Super Tactical Droid, despite the fact that the Super Tactical Droid wasn't created/deployed until 20 BBYm
In his Wookiepedia, it states that he had ARC trooper training, he isn't exactly an ARC trooper. All he did was show great skill on Kamino, so they gave him the training.
Rex actually has always worn his phase 1 armor, his helmet from phase 2 is a combination of his phase 1 and 2 armor. In the show and models you can actually see the welding marks. The armor featured in this comic is probably the same armor just before he cut off the phase 1 fin
