  • Arriving late to the plug-in party and overshadowed by more statistically impressive cars like the Chevrolet Volt, the plug-in Prius hasn't garnered much attention. That's likely that reason it hasn't sold particularly well.

    Why are Chevy Volt owner's coming here to trash this car? 😂. Probably because it is no longer in production. I love my Prius and i love 3rd generation's look. Color: Blizzard Pearl.

    I get 95.7 mpg local my car has 225,000miles original batteries both hybrid and HV batteries r in great shape Rick in NJ

    Change the battery to a more powerfull one. 18 kWh for instance, will give you over 60 miles in EV-mode!

    But the Ford doesn't have something that car does, reability. Also if you want to use some power in the C-max it will get like 15 mpg.

    Nice hybrid car, but I still do not like the flying buttress for the gear shift. Look at the Prius V or the Lexus CT200h, those dashboards look much better than a standard Prius. If Toyota is interested, I got a new Camry Hybrid for the legroom and the mileage. 620 miles on a single tank of fuel is just incredible. That's is 43 MPG without any gimmicks or hyper mileage tricks. Just two women that really did not care about mileage, they went somewhere and returned. 70+mph to Chicago and back. SMH

    After I tested this car,I choose to buy Volt,sorry,at this time,Volt is the winner on top of all plug-in,EV,Hybrid,you name it,environment friendly/gas saving car.Chevy Volt does what it must do,in the city electric ONLY and on long trips little-gas waste with the possibility of keeping a decent amount of energy inside the battery for mountain driving or city driving after your long drive journey.I am a HAPPY owner of Volt.NOTE:I have no intention of free advertising Volt,is just a winner.

      Kukuruku the volt was a huge fauilure for GM , it has been discontinued

    They should redesign the Prius so it looks less bland, and just as aerodynamic but it looks like this. The interior looks horrible for the price, but it's a toyota, so i guess you can't expect too much. Good review.

    Isn't using electricity also bad?. That's why they always have things such as don't burn electricity burn calories for people who take elevators and escalators.

    What statistics tell you the cmax is unreliable, first off? Second, I drove a cmax for a week, all my efficiency gauges were yellow (meaning not efficient) and I averaged 50mpg. The prius is the one that loses mpg for power because you have to floor it to get any power from it.

    For those that don't know how the Volt works, if it's in battery mode, the gas motor never comes on, ever. 0-100, and I've done it, the gas motor will not turn on. I select when the gas motor comes on. John, do your homework. If you are in "hold" mode, which is gas motor on, then there is a hybrid function where both gas motor and battery drive the vehicle under certain high demand situations. No magical 82 mph, or so, in a Volt..

    Ford C-max energi is 21 miles electric and 188hp. It has ev now, ev later, or hybrid options not to mention max speed of 72 mph in electric mode. You never mentioned how horrible the suspension is either. The OBVIOUS choice for most hybrid buyers is NOT the Prius.

    Dont confuse "reliability" with name recognition. Name recognition is the only thing prius beats the cmax on.

    Amazing this car gets so little electric only miles, and even those you have to watch your accelerator inputs or the motor will come on. The Chevy Volt gets 40 plus miles of all electric mode and the gas motor never turns on no matter how many Prius you blow off the line. My Volt has 110 mpg lifetime ave and its still oing up

      VoltecRules be aware though the chevy volt has a much higher capacity battery. less interior volume, less cargo capacity, less people capacity, lower fuel economy average in hybrid mode, and actually at around 82mph or so your gas engine will actually go direct connection to the wheels to prevent the electric motors from over spinning. the prius plug in was never meant to be an ev with range extending. now what eludes me is why GM decided to call the volt and ev with range extending capabilities but called the Cadillac ELR a hybrid with extended ev range like the plug in prius, even though the volt and elr have identical power trains. also your lifetime mpg is have baked due to the constant charging of the vehicle. I bet you my 06 prius can do better in fuel economy on the same drive at the same time than your volt when going longer than 40 miles. to make it interesting, lets go 300 miles and then see which vehicle truly would get better fuel economy. SoCal Speed :D

      +Matt Bucknam I agree with everything you say. The new 2016 Volt would increase your 3,000 mile trip to about 50 mpg with its 53+ mile battery and increased gas mpg engine. Plus it seats 5 now. There is no comparison with the Prius or Plug in Prius. The Volt dominates. It's funny how the Prius writers try to defend a OLD TECH TOYOTA PRIUS. they really have to look for insignificant facts to try win an argument against the Volt. Why anyone would buy a Prius, when the Volt is for sale for about $22,000 after rebates is beyond me.

      +John Cantu 80% of Volt owners drive within the 53 miles battery range. Depending on how many days per year they drive close to 53 miles will determine their yearly mileage. Ex: 53 miles x 365 days / 8 gallons (automatically burns a tank of gas per year) = 2,418 mpg. Can you get 2,418 mpg in a Prius. I know you have to drive slow to get close to 50, but even a Prius driver couldn't drive slow enough to get 2,418 mpg. It's true you may get a few mpg better driving 3,000 miles, but the rest of the year I'll be getting 2,418 mpg. Last month I drove 1,900 miles and got 314 mpg.

      This is the reason why the human race cannot progress to its full potential. Curious about the Prius PiP, I’ve come hear to watch a video about the pros and cons of this vehicle - not that I don’t know about them. I drive a vintage 2008 Prius Hybrid (UK Model) with 102,000 miles on the odometer. It’s my daily commuter and is extremely reliable. I love Prii technology, and I’ve read about all types and models of hybrid vehicles - but I’ve stayed loyal to Toyota and their tried tested and proven HSD technology.
      I visit the comments section to read comments from actual owners of this vehicle (note: I came to learn about the Prius PiP).....and what do I find? 😳
      Way too many comments from insecure owners of alternate plug-in EVs / Hybrids, who seemingly starved of attention and feeling intimidated by the humble Prius PiP, feel the need to come on here and spout off gibberish and many an untruth about Prii, while simultaneously rabidly extolling the virtues of their preferred EV / Hybrid. Basically, this is aping the age old testosterone fuelled problem male humans particularly suffer from. Crudely wagging their genitalia while screaming my shlong is bigger than yours. It’s the 21st century, we’re surrounded with amazing technologies and yet, the need to do battle albeit as a keyboard warrior remains undiminished. This is why the human race fails. 🙄
      If I wanted to read or indeed hear about the GM VOLT , I’d go watch Volt videos, or read up about it online. I’m already aware of its pros and cons. I, and many other people researching the Prius PiP do not need to read tens of seemingly juvenile comments screeching about why they’re sure a GM Volt is better than any Prius on this planet. Truth be told, you’re not going to convince anyone with comments like this, written with an almost religiously fanatical zeal. The grand majority of Prius owners know why they bought a Prius, and enjoy the brand loyalty. Negative comments about Prii are mildly amusing and at worst simply irritating and absolutely irrelevant. I never take an interest in anything just because a convert resorts to the metaphorical equivalent of wagging his nether bits at me. Perish the thought.
      It’s not our Volt that we’re not the slightest bit interested in the, er, Volt. We come here for the Prius PiP, and believe it or not, it’s a free world - people are entitled to their choices, but we do frown on having another vehicle inappropriately shoved down our throats almost like some people are obsessed With shoving their newly found religion down others throats, and threaten to behead them for being disbelievers when they decline being converted. 🙄
      Perhaps these Cult of Volt sermons might be best published where there are Volt videos? 😐

    Prius is stopping production on their plug in hybrid. I wonder why??? Maybe it sucked! My Chevy Volt is amazing. When I put it in "L" on the transmission I rarely have to use my brakes on my 27 mile commute in stop and go traffic in LA. I never have brake dust, my motor hardly runs, so I never need oil changes either. Basically my maintenance is rotating tires, that's it! The regenerative brakes do all the braking, while charging my battery too. My max range on a single charge off of a regular 120 volt outlet was 51.3 miles. My mileage on a 54 mile commute averages between 273 mpg to a max of 317 mpg. 0-60 in my car is 8.7 seconds, but the real power is below 50 mph where the 270+ lbs of torque @ zero rpm will make the Volt fly off the line. Prius don't have a chance at a light with a Volt next to them. With its low center of gravity the Volt handle awesome. True it's smaller inside, but the 4 bucket seats are very cool. I bought mine in 2014 for $31,195 -$9,500 in federal and state rebates/credits. Final cost was $22,195. The 2015 Volts are even cheaper. The rebates will not last forever. Get one now or forever be jealous like most Prius owners are. See you all at the next light when I leave you in the dust, hahahah
