The Granny Square Chicken is a colorful hen crocheted using two floral granny squares. It will add some rustic, farmhouse charm to your life! This versatile pattern allows for endless yarn color combinations, and can be crocheted using yarn scraps so it’s quite suitable as a stashbuster project. There are many ways to customize and make use of this pattern, such as adding a keyring to turn it into a keychain, or stuffing it with a satchel of lavender to make it into a soothing scent sachet for your car, office, or room.

Exciting news! A crochet kit is available for this project at: yarnsea.com/en/project/2147/granny-square-chicken
This is great because there's so many beautiful squares I want to make but I don't want to make a blanket. So now I'm just gonna make an army of chickens instead 😂❤
Hahaha an army of chickens sounds great!!! I get you....I don't have the patience to make a granny square blanket!
My first chicken amigurumi! She is very flirty!!! Love it!! ❤
I was thinking the same thing.
I sell things at flea markets and craft fairs I have over 100 granny squares at any given time because I sell them because some people can't make them but they want to make things with them. And I was thinking I can use the ones that are not really popular to make these. Happy crocheting everyone
I make rabbits with mine. I have a bunny army in my house!
Me too
I made my prototype chicken from this pattern and my husband immediately claimed it to display in his car!🤣 Love the content! Thanks!
I LOVE that your husband claimed your granny square chicken!! Hahaha that is so cute. Thank you for sharing!!
There is currently (2023-24)a trend for "emotional support chickens"....larger chickens that are knitted. They are cute as the dickens...but this is w-a-y cuter. I love that these are small and could be tucked into a purse. I have been wanting to make an emotional support chicken for a girlfriend of mine that has trauma related issues, but just felt the knitted ones were a bit too large. This is the perfect solution for something smaller she can carry/take with her. Thank you for another great tutorial 🤗
Aww that's so sweet of you to make this as a special gift for your friend!! I'm sure she will cherish it!
That's the cutest chicken I've seen so far. I will be making one for myself. Thank you. 💖💖👍👍🙏🙏💖💖
Hope you enjoy!!
These would make adorable pin cushions.
Great idea!
I love this. It’s so adorable and such a great way to use up my test granny squares. Your voice is so soothing too. Thx for the videos.
I wish there was a LOVE button. I more than like this.
That's so kind of you!!!
Thank you so much for designing and teaching us this adorable patterns! I just foubd you channel and this chicken last night. Several have stolen or copied your design. You are the designer. Thank you again! My grandchildren will love these! xxx🐥
I just finished my first ever crochet chicken 🐓 and I absolutely love it!! 😍😍 Thank you for this tutorial.
I made one of these today just for fun and I love it. I live in the country and all my friends here have chickens, so I'll be making heaps of these to gift to them. Thanks.

Oh, I wish I could crochet, these are adorable!
Thanks for your oh-so-cute chicken. I’ve been looking for the perfect pattern and this is it. I’m obsessed!❤
So glad to hear it! Thank you for the kind words!
That is so adorable! I'm going to make lots of these. Thank you for the instructional video. ❤
So cute. I think i have 2 granny squares somewhere in my stash that will be perfect. Thank you
Omgoodness I had a rough day and thus was exactly what I needed❤ this is SO cute 🎉 thank you
Just found you. You’re great! Thank you! New sub for sure!
Oh my gosh, I'm going to make the chicken with exactly your Spring Court Granny Squares; however, I got to thinking that if someone has other squares with light and airy holes, they can always put their stuffing in a leg of some pantyhose (that you tie off inside after you're sure you like it; right before closing up the chicken). I saw another gal that makes big plushies use pantyhose stuffing liners and I thought that was brilliant!
That's a good tip! I do that for some of my amigurumis made with bulky yarn!
So cute! Love them 😍. Can't wait to make some.😊
This is super cute 😍….making one right now!👌
Your instructions are clear and easy to follow.
Thanks for sharing your pattern.
Thanks so much 😊 I'm happy to hear that!
This looked so cute I had to make one immediately
Yay!!
This is beautiful. Can't wait to try it....thank you!
Just made one. Love this pattern!
Sooo lovely chicken 😍😍😍
Verty cute and unique idea. Thank you
Adorable. I guess if you make a larger granny square the little chick will be larger, too. Good job. Thank you.
Yep, a larger granny square will make a bigger chicken!

Absolutely gorgeous,
This chicken pattern made with your Spring Court Granny Square turned out so pretty. I did have to put my safety eyes in one stitch behind where you put yours because when I put them in the chain 2 space the immediately pulled out.
Fabulous and adorable!

I can't wait to make these! I love making granny squares and these are so cute! I have a bunch of holiday colors in some sparkly Caron Simply Soft yarn that might be fun since Christmas is right around the corner. Thanks for a sharing such a great pattern! Your tutorials are wonderful!!
That's awesome to hear, hope you have lots of fun crocheting these chickens! Glad you like my tutorials! :)
I just made a dozen of them! I added a piece of yarn through the top of the crown and going to give as gifts for Christmas ornaments.
My corner hole was too big and I had trouble with keeping eyes in so I sewed hole closed first. I also hate to sew, so I just slip stitched closed using outside loops.
I LOVE THIS PATTERN!! You and the tutorial are wonderful! Thanks for sharing it!

So awesome to hear! I'm sure he'll love it, what a sweet gift!
Hermosa gallina!!
❤ I am new on your channel
Holy Moly... I love this chick design! I did a few as gifts for friends and they love it too! Easy to make, but as you pointed out, it's got to be a tight weave or the fillings may fall through the stitches if they are too big. Still.... it's a cute and easy-to-make design. Thank you so so much for sharing and teaching 🥰. Any chance of doing cows? I've got a whole basket of chicks now, hahahaha!😂
So awesome to hear! Glad you like this pattern! I don’t have a cow pattern yet. Are you thinking of a regular cow doll or one made into a granny square pyramid like this chicken?
I was thinking of a normal cute cow but.....oh wowee! You can make a granny square pyramid cow?!?...😳😲. I actually saw a cow pattern from Etsy (she charges for the pattern of course) and there's a little calf inside her stomach which you can pull out from her butt... hahahaha. I thought that would be a pretty awesome thing to make. 🤭
I'm not sure how exactly to proceed with a granny square pyramid cow (due to the funky shape) but I'll think on it! I haven't made a normal cow yet, but that'd be an awesome next project! Pretty cool to hear about that calf design haha
I will patiently wait for your next project@@SweetSofties 🥰
I got excited to finish off my chicken so I sewn it all the way, i haven't finish the video so now that i finished watching i realized the back butt should be sewn flat. Now my chicken is square lol.
Aww!! That's okay, a square chicken is still cute!!!
I love your videos. Could you show how to crochet a stuffed animal frog please?
I have a free frog pattern here! th-cam.com/video/HPLw355E0IQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=M3Py_dlDFxXB1h3n

@@SweetSofties I’m just seeing this today, 3 months later. Where can I find this wonderful tool?
I absolutely adore chickens and glad I stumbled upon you. Immediately subscribed💕
I love your tutorials! I am a beginner and learning so much!
Can I sell the finished product after I make it?
Thank you!! yay! And yes you can sell them if you credit me as the pattern designer with my website, such as: "Pattern design by Sweet Softies, www.sweetsofties.com"
@@SweetSofties I will absolutely do that!! Thank you so much for providing such wonderful design. I will support you in any way I can.
Is the grand quare pattern on your channel I love your channel you have a lot off talent ❤ I been sharing your channel
Where did you get the tool for fastening the eyes? Cute project! Thank you
Is it a wallet. It’s beautiful
❤
What’s that tool you used for the safety eye called?
What tool are you using to set the plastic safety eyes? It looks perfect, but I can't find anything like it anywhere. Thanks so much for your pattern. I just got it from Etsy. It's adorable.
😍
Here's the link to the safety eyes attachment tool (along with a discount)! crafteasytools.com/sweet-softies/
Thank you for supporting me as a pattern designer and getting my pattern! Hope you enjoy making your granny square chicken!!
Can you send me the link to the purple tool you used to fasten the safety eyes?
Love the cute little chick! May I ask, what is the tool for attaching the safety eyes called and where did you get it? It looks perfect for making amigurumi toys! Also it occurred to me that stitching a square of felt to the back side of the granny squares would keep stuffing from coming out- just a thought! I love your adorable design and great tutorial 😊
The tool is in process of manufacturing right now! There was a kickstarter campaign for it that failed since it didn't meet its $ goal, so the creator is now trying to get a loan to mass-produce the tool. It's in the works right now but I have no idea how long it'll take to release! Sorry about that!
And yes, some felt behind the granny squares would help with keeping stuffing in!! Great idea!
❤❤❤😊
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Can you share what tool you used to attach the eyes? It looks like a crimping tool or like pliers. Thank you!
Yes!! It's in the works...but here's a prototype that you can get! I used teh prototype in my video too. I'm also waiting for the final version to come out. tidd.ly/3RLV6Id
Yes, I used this one! tidd.ly/3RLV6Id It's currently a prototype (like the one I'm using in my video) and I'm waiting for the final version to be made and released. It's not my product/creation but I'll share a link to it once it's ready!
Can i use red heart yarn or is it too light for this project? And would cotton yarn work?
It depends on what weight of red heart yarn! I used medium weight 4 cotton yarn for this project. If you use a thinner yarn, I recommend using a smaller hook as well so that you won't have big gaps between your stitches. Thinner yarn + smaller hook will result in a smaller chicken though!
Very cute. Where did you get the tool you used to put in safety eyes, if you don’t mind my asking?
Not at all! It's a prototype of a tool that's being launched on kickstarter in April!! The kickstarter price will be a lot cheaper than when it goes to retail AFTER the campaign, so I recommend getting it from the kickstarter. You can sign up for my mailing list and you'll be notified when the kickstarter launches! Here's the link to my mailing list: view.flodesk.com/pages/638d7d3b08af91d6ddfdfa2a
@@SweetSofties ok I just subscribed. Thanks!
Do you have an affiliate link for the eye backing tool?
It's now sold out and there will be new ones when the kickstarter campaign for the tool launches in April! Sign up for my mailing list to get info about it hwen it comes out: view.flodesk.com/pages/638d7d3b08af91d6ddfdfa2a
Could you use this to hold an easter egg instead of stuffing - maybe button up a seam
You could avoid sewing one side so that it can open up like a pouch! :)
What is the tool, that you use to attach the safety eyes, called!?
It's a plastic safety eye attachment tool that's currently in production...I'll share about it on my channel when it's available for purchase!! :)
I come here exactly to ask the same question! My fingers can't wait!
Me, too!
Here's a link to the prototype (the same one I'm using in my video): tidd.ly/3RLV6Id ! I'm waiting for the final version to be made and released. It's not my product/creation but I'll share a link to it once it's ready!
How to increase the size.?please do reply....I am dying to make this....but a little bigger one😊
You can use a thicker yarn and a larger hook to go along with it! :)
