  • Plein Air Easel. Revolutionary design for light weight, function, and durability. It has at least 2-3 times the paint mixing room with less weight than most other set ups. Alternative to the Pochade Box. Made from solid Oak, with a Baltic Birch palette. No complicated moving parts or springs to wear out or break. Light weight stable tripod comes with the system. Sets up in seconds. Concept taken from classic French Easel.

I have one ! and I love it. Always had trouble with the legs on my soltek, this is a better system and I liked the fact that all the components were a unified price.
    Thanks

The palette hanging on the easel is a great solution and the way the easel is weighed down so it doesnt fall over in the wind. I've been painting plein air in Iceland and have to tie my easel down with trings to wooden sticks to the ground. (As can be seen in my videos.) This plastic bag solution is the obvious choice when placing the easel on a hard ground, Thank you James !

Looks good, I'm on the market for a new solution to my plain air gear, I've lugged my half box French easel all over the country, this looks like an affordable solution! thanks!

The palette looks very good, but the support for the canvas looks jiggly, like you've set up a sail for yourself and it might blow over any second.

I can't tell u how excited i am to get this setup. I found your website (artboxandpanel) from a random art blog, Scott Ruthven.
I was getting cigar boxes and trying to make a setup but it wasn't working. The blog showed how to make a close version of your setup but i don't have a router or table saw. I could do most of it but this time i'll just get the real thing. Doing a workshop online with Kenn Backhaus and hope to be a big name as well someday!!! My name is not Focker lol.
I'm deep into conspiracy stuff on youtube lol.

@Kristbergur1001 I use a very short bungy cord, open up a tray, wrap cord tightly around the tray so metal hooks grab onto pallete on right and left (hard to explain) someone showed me this and it works fantastic! That palette won't go anywhere, won't even giggle when you mix.

Does it work with store bought canvas as well? I'm sure I could make adjustments for that. Just not sure how tight the panel holder is for panel or canvas.

Is it possible to attach the Coulter box to a Gorilla Painter easel?

Where are you at, James? Looks like you're near Tucson.
That looks like a nice system you have.
Let me ask, since an artist has to transport the canvas anyway, why don't you make a box that's big enough to carry a good sized canvas and all the equipment too?

How do you attach the panel holder to the tripod? My quick release option is too small and the panel holder does not fit.

I'm wondering if a ball head on the tripod is necessary or at least advantageous for your panel holder?

This looks great but I am moving to Chicago and it windy of course & it looks a little unsteady. That is my only concern.

Any outdoor easel, including a full size French Easel has to be weighted down in the wind. Carry something light and then use some rocks or a bungy cord tied to your back pack if it gets windy.

the palette on the tripod is the standard..yes...
What is the one you show that has been used...it seems to be huge...obviously this is one of your own, and not one you sell...correct.

What is your brush holder and how is it “hooked” . I have been using your set up for over a year and would never go back. Do you have anything for watercolor using your box?
