    I like this guy. Hearing Graham constantly talking about stacking paper to the ceiling, extreme frugality for no reason doesn't really carry any weight. I guess if it doesn't make him any happier, it's fine, but I'm sure that if he's been saving 97%+ for the past decade or so, he will be good for the rest of his life, and maybe his grandkids' lives.

    • @mr.d-
      @mr.d- 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      its not just about saving only, its also about having money to invest in things that could increase his income...

    • @KDbelieves
      @KDbelieves 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I agree with Graham more than Charlie. He kind of explains "the method to his madness". The general advice for the wealthy is the 5% rule. If you want to maintain your wealth for yourself and your kids, never spend more than 5% of your wealth every year. The problem with the 5% rule is it doesn't account for the market crashes that happen every 10 years (give or take) and can last from a year to a decade. 3% is the safest spending ratio to ensure you don't lose your wealth as it takes these market crashes into consideration. He's keeping it under 3% because if he spends 1.5% and invests 1.5% each year, that allows for the money to exponentially compound. If he spent the full 3%, the money will not grow much over inflation. 1.5% of his income is about 100-150k a year and that will grow as his wealth grows. That's a SOLID life.
      This is the smartest way to ensure that you never lose money in your lifetime. He's securing his nest. This is how the rich stay rich.
      If charlie invested his money at the start of his success, today, he would have enough where he could easily afford to rent the house he's living in and it wouldn't be a big chunk of his finances. By the time he reaches 40, 500k a year would be a drop in the bucket.

    • @nuwang2381
      @nuwang2381 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@KDbelieves grahams way if investing is honestly something I respect like he is aware of the fact that he doesn't need the grand things in life to be happy and doesn't want to lose his wealth and live a comfortable life and it isn't like graham isn't living a good life either like he is splurging in luxery goods but only to the point where they don't lose any value to him which is something I really respect. he is playing life for the long game

    • @KDbelieves
      @KDbelieves 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nuwang2381 Exactly with his strategy, he doesn't have to worry if the economy completely crashes because he already accounted for that. He lives a good 6 figure income that'll only continue to increase, his life is not ruled by material goods, and theoretically, his strategy ensures that he'll never be poor. He wins in every angle.

    Awesome podcast, was an absolute pleasure watching the dichotomy between the two views on valuing money and time. This is clearly subjective but I definitely resonate more with Charlies more balanced work/life/yolo approach. He is pursuing experiences and hobbies that brings him the most joy regardless of the financial cost (or at least a low consideration). Graham on the other hand seems to be making a lot of life choices that are dependent on how profitable or costly it is. That being said I respect the hell out of Grahams' grind and discpline.

    Awesome episode, Charlie's story, frame and numbers are crazy. 20K in rent is absolutely insane IMO lmao he definitely needs to start investing. It'd be cool to have an aggressive Graham episode of "Reacting to " picking apart his expenses hahahaha.
    Mad respect for Charlie though, he's made it and it's his money and his team. I understand where he's coming from, his QoL talk makes sense. SoCal weather seems to be great, and if all your network, friends, GF (altho he could move in w her i guess) are there paying that extra amount for upgrading QoL seems justifiable. I agree with him on some of the outsourcing but I think he really could save something in cash, or build net worth instead of straight spending if he's renting. A part two followup more focused on real estate could be interesting, just them going on zillow and eyeing out alternatives, stuff like what graham said about Ventura etc. If he's seeing his gf so often , that those extra 30 min are worth it, then just move in with her in a cheaper place lol

    It’s insane how he looks the exact same as he did probably 10 years ago. I found his channel back in middle school specifically the how to be confident videos and how to talk to other people videos. I lost the channel awhile back and could never remember the name, but I wanted to say thank you so much. Your channel significantly impacted my life and allowed me to develop confidence and interpersonal skills when I had virtually no self esteem. Your content truly matters.

    Graham tends to be stand-offish. Sometimes he comes off as a prick, which is total opposite of his main videos. He’s like a complete 180 sometimes during the iced coffee hour clips. Jack is awesome because he’s 100% the same during every episode. He’s not moody like Graham can be.

      Graham mentioned in a video a couple of years ago that he deals with social anxiety and used to deal with it pretty severely. Maybe he just doesn’t feel as comfortable as Jack does when talking to people he doesn’t know well.

    • @whysoblutube
      @whysoblutube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@amberlee6878 eh, that’s a cop out. He also gets this dour look on his face when he sees guests not sweating the small stuff in their businesses. He did that when he had Spencer Cornelia on as a guest. Spencer was chill, has efficient systems in place, and Graham looked like someone took a dump in his cereal.

      That’s because on his main channel he is a presenter, it’s not really him. What you see in the podcast is just him being him. And the reality is he’s a young rich prick. Smug as all get out. But, he’s done the work and earned the wealth. Just because he’s a bit of a cock doesn’t mean he isn’t providing lots of value

    As a Puerto Rican who's left the island... The benefits of living in Puerto Rico (whether it's taxes, the weather, etc...) do not outweigh the headaches of living there. You're automatically going to be branded as a public enemy, utilities are in a poor state with lack of maintenance on critical infrastructure, the hurricanes can be a total bitch, and what's worse is that there's no two-day shipping on amazon.

    Graham is graded investing and saving money as it turns out. However, that doesn’t make him a good business manager or operator. this podcast exemplified this even more why that’s true when he shoves off virtual assistance as if it’s a waste of time and money. The lack of understanding the nuances is where the lack of business acumen happens. Graham is clearly not trying to scale a business he’s happy maintaining a business hence why he’s good at saving money and investing money but not making money.
