Complete Beginner Tries Speaking ONLY Spanish for 24 Hours | Un gringo intenta hablar español...

  • Can a complete beginner who’s only been learning Spanish for two weeks go through an entire 24 hours with only Spanish?! So it’s my second week of learning Spanish in my 30 day Spanish challenge, and I decided to undertake the impossible - trying to go through my day with ONLY Spanish, a true 24 hour challenge. It was full of activities like cooking (we made burritos!), playing video games (Minecraft), singing reggaeton (Ivy Queen!), watching movies in Spanish, and doing yoga in Spanish. What a fun day!!!

    Learning Spanish through Stories?
    The course I used initially to give me a good foundation in Spanish was called “Spanish Uncovered” by the polyglot Olly Richards, which is a way to learn Spanish naturally through stories. I really enjoyed it, and it seems to be an excellent way to get a good foundation in a new language. bit.ly/3pPB0we

      Si! Para eso tiene que aprender los "géneros" de cada sustantivo. Así podra saber cuando ocupar un o una, el o la, este o esta, etc.

    • @Philoglossos
      @Philoglossos 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      The reason is that words ending in -ema come from Greek. Greek has three genders (masculine, feminine and neuter) and in Greek these -ema words are neuter, so in Spanish they become masculine. So we have 'el problema', 'el sistema', el cine(ma), el tema, etc.

    Hey Xiaoma, good stuff for only two weeks! Here's a tip: We spaniards don't actually use personal pronouns to start a phrase. For example: "Yo tengo hambre" is well said, but a native would just say "Tengo hambre". That's because we change the verb instead, being "tengo" for referring to me, "tienes" for referring to you, "tiene" for he/she, "tienen" for we, "tenéis" for you (plural)... So when I say "Tengo hambre" it already implies that I'm talking about me, no need to add "Yo" first. Hope it helps.
    Keep up the good work! Greetings from Spain!

    • @nicolaspalacios4189
      @nicolaspalacios4189 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @Floris Aleska The first thing you should know about "vosotros" the pronoun that is used in the conjugation of "tenéis" is that it is mainly used in Spain's spanish. We Latinamericans practically never use it. Regarding the meaning, it is kind of an informal plural of you. The plural meaning that you are refering to more than one person in addition to the one you are directly speaking to. We Latinamericans use "ustedes" both in formal and informal conversations.

      Kinda. Not really, tho.
      Schools are leftovers from times when you couldn't effortlessly lookup any languages dictionary, video chat with people native in the language you're learning, and browse media in other languages with a click to immerse yourself.
      It still works, but it's kind of the snail mail version of what we have now. Also, some people don't have the personality to do what Xiaoma does.

      I'd like to say I speak decent French after taking it in middle and high school and even one semester in college. Sure, my accent isn't amazing, but I can make my way through a conversation and I can read it perfectly fine (listening is a different story lol). I think it completely depends on how serious you are about learning the language and the amount of effort you put into the class itself. And all of my teachers were really passionate about it so I guess that also helped, but I think it is completely possible to learn a language at school.

My wife is language teacher, Spanish - Castillian, and we both like how positive you are in the videos. Remember there is no single languahe Español, hay muchas linguas de España. Standard Spanish is called Castellano just like standard Chinese is Mandarin. But there is Catalán (Cataluña - Barcelona) and Gallego (Galicia - Vigo) wich are distinctly separate Romance Languages, Euskara in the Basque country, plus multiple regional variations within Spain, Mexico, South America etc. Most people in North America just call it Spanish, but you are learning Castellano. Good luck and we enjoy the channel.

    Te doy dos consejitos para mejorar tu pronunciación, y creo que con eso ya sonarías muchísimo mejor:
    - Practica la pronunciación de las vocales (th-cam.com/video/95irjpn7CtM/w-d-xo.html)
    - Practica la pronunciación de la "r" y la "rr" (th-cam.com/video/FEkXFPLdUJQ/w-d-xo.html)
    Creo que con eso es suficiente, porque es el gran problema que tienen los angloparlantes al momento de hablar español.
    Mucha suerte!

I am in shock because I've heard many non-native speakers speaking Spanish and it is easy to tell that it is not their first language due to the way the pronounce . learning basic words and terms in spanish is actually the easiest part in learning spanish.
    It's spanish grammar and sentencing that is the hardest thing to learn, kind of like the english language, but with terms compacted into words.

    A small correction: at 1:56 you were gonna say "A la mañana comen", and then changed it to "están comiendo". The first one, "comen" was the wrigth one, similar to the English: "eat", instead of "are eating" when talking about habits. Keep it up.
