To avoid marring the ejection port, I'd place a piece of old belt leather there. Leather is thick and no way the pliers could push through it to make little marks in the port...

I believe I heard your elbow click at 80ftlb.

looks like recoil lug timing moved quite a bit when you torqued the wrench. What about that?

I think there's excessive headspace in my new Ruger 10/22. I've elongated the firing pin stop, but I'm still getting weak strikes. Making a very small dent in the rim of the cartridge. I can't really tighten the barrel any more, because of the recess in it, for the extractor. But could I trim the bolt face down a bit? I'll probably have to trim the rear of the extractor, too... Any thoughts?

10/22 has a slip fit barrel. Tighten the barrel retainer. It's held in by the 2 hex bolts below the barrel in front of the receiver. 7/22 has a threaded barrel and barrel nut.
If you've taken the barrel off before you may need to clean things in case something is interfering with the clearances.

This us a slick set up, unfortunately, it will only work with savage actions and pre-fit barrels

I've watched several smithing videos, and yours is the first to help me really understand headspace. Thank you!

Thanks for the video. The lip on a cartridge is called a rim. If it's a belted case, then headspace is to the belt.

Doesn't this change the relationship between the barrel and the receiver throwing the front sight out of alignment?

Great video. Have you or will you make a video showing how you built your barrel vice? Or show it with maybes parts needed to build one?

    You're great!
I like setting headspace for the .308 rifle REMINGTON 700 I would like you to do that?
    Thanks!

Good video. Do you remove the extractor and ejector from the bolt head when setting the headspace?

would have like to see how an empty piece of brass functioned in the action, other than that awesome vid. Just ordered my stevens 200 30-06 and most likely going 35 whelen. This just helped me realize how easy this really is. thanks.

Brass case length can vary a lot, especially fired brass, but even new brass. A headspace gauge is the right tool to do this, since it's a known (and very carefully set) length.

can you put a 458 win mag barrel on a savage moder 11 111 110 rifles

    • @ranchman12
      @ranchman12 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Tim Bolt. Don't know about s "moder" 11, but a long action "model" 11 should work 😎 Just giving you a hard time, I'm being the typo police!
You might think you have to measure and modify your ejection port, but the Savages (I think, if the 11 is like my model 10) are all open on top. You might have to consider 2 separate scope rings as well, a rail covers the port and might interfere with ejection; the .458 Win. is a long, straight walled (slight taper?), big round. Interesting caliber, what are you shooting at?
