      I really enjoy these "windows" into the world of Arknights via their youtube videos, the snippets of unlockable reading materials in-game, as well as the actual event stories and story stages. Unrelated, but from my own experience, I'm rather pessimistic about anime adaptations of games. I might still enjoy one for Arknights, being a fan, but generally such adaptations feel like they're just a low-effort attempt at advertisement to pull in people who generally just watch anime and were unaware of the game.
      Personally, I would prefer if they wrote new material and a story just for the anime, and by doing so relieve the fear that the adaptation is just a low effort advertisement. Of course, it could turn out quite well even if that's the case, and I'll probably still enjoy it either way being the Arknights fan I am as I said earlier. But on the other hand, if the anime is entirely based on new material then first and foremost that worst case scenario won't be the case. And then even if it doesn't turn out well, it will still be a supplement to the Arknights lore and world and I can enjoy it as such. And finally, it would be a relief as a fan to know that the developers themselves are still invested in building and creating this world, rather than expending their efforts on marketing to the point of neglecting the creative backbone of the whole endeavor.

      The Silence occurred in 1038 while the Doctor was placed in the Sarcophagus in 1094, so its been approximately 60 years since it happened. While it's true that the Golden Age of Iberia is well and truly over, if you think about it, the decline started less than a generation ago so they could still be considered a major power in their own right, especially with Aegiran technology backing them up. Naturally, different parts of the country will feel the pain differently especially the coastal villages.

(RI boffins managed to cook up an analog but the results are much inferior to the ammo that came along from Earth; beggars can't be choosers tho as the Arts-blind Earthlings can't use Terran ammo at all.) Which alongside the apparently higher baseline physical performance of Terrans (the highly conditioned R6S spec-ops Earthlings were frankly startled) and their routine use of Arts to augment their weapons and capabilities - a world of Physical Adepts in _Shadowrun_ terms - no doubt contributes heavily to firearms being merely a sidegrade to muscle-powered arms in the setting.

    It has influence of both our old and recent past.
    The religious influence and lost golden age based on sea supremacy is reminiscent of the colonial age, when the Catholic kings and their descendants ruled strong defending the faith and the empire reached the height of its power through the new world
    But the present isolationism and bleakness is reminiscent of post civil war spain.
    But of course all of it has its Arknights twists to it. I particularly love that Iberia is the first and only line of defense against Lovecraftian horrors, even after losing everything.

    • @SoundGuideline
      @SoundGuideline 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure, but I'd quess that's because their cities were giant advanced ships that allowed them to expand into the see (quite literally, they could live and build on it) and use it's wealth basically uncontested. And that expansion allowed them to establish themselves as the major land power.
      Kind of like the maritime advancements of our world's Iberian powers made them richest European empires for a while.

    • @zirpharis

      @@SoundGuideline but they were sea powers still, looking how the Spanish and French sucked at land combat during that time (besides against the less advanced people they conquered) and the British that didn't need to worry about land combat against equal foes. • @SoundGuideline
      @SoundGuideline 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Zirpharis French were more balanced, but I get you. Still we can't really deny that both were land powers, and major. And Iberia seem to have been more advanced than it's neighbors and probably no less influencial seeing how Sargon can't even govern its western frontier properly and Siracusa is being all gangsta. Definitely enough to be an independent entity.
      Also, I do believe that "Marine technology" isn't just referring to the good battle ships. I recall Abyssal Hunters were also created by Iberia. But I'd need to clarify that.

(One of the Kazimierz Ops' files mentions modest precursors of the things were already being built by what was basically Terra's "steampunk" period a century or so back, too.)

      Well the main reason those are the limits of the "known world" of the setting is trying to cross them is unviable - and not merely because of hostile environment. Any amount of freaky eldritch shit that eats your shadow and/or your face (via your toes) dwelling in those regions rather complicates any exploration efforts.
      'Course, it's not like the inhabitants actually had any pressing incentive to try anyway. The "known world" is rather sparsely inhabited and has substantial room for internal colonization, gonna be a while before they'll need to start looking for outlets for excess population (the Catastrophes partly keep it in check anyway). And the kinds of continental scale long-distance trade routes that IRL motivated Europeans to hazard sailing west into the vast unknown of the Atlantic don't even exist in the first place so, yeah.

      @@broadbandislife hay don’t dis my idea . What if they do do that and find out those Eldridge abomination just attack out of fear , you don’t know if there planing on exploring it there or not . There’s probably nothing that dangerous out there they can’t handle. There’s probably just wildlife out there and those things are just made up to frighten children as to keep people in some kind of law where if you leave to go out side the borders . You are legally dead and all memory of you is erased . Basically if the Eldridge abominations where real they would have Already gotten into the the known world. The people are afraid because there dealing with orapathy witch was probably crated as a why to keep them inside the boundary’s of the known world. And those Eldridge abominations are seen as such because of propaganda . In lore your not allowed to go to the outside because there’s actually a wall not to keep thing out . But to keep people in . There a reason air ships in Arknights fly so low . The wall the dome . The people are being oppressed . And if they do find a cure for orapathy . Propaganda from the ruling body’s will say that the cure will only make orapathy worse . This hole orapathy thing is to keep people from leaving . Give them something to focus on and not the outside world. The government of the Arknights universe built that large city to hose everyone so they never leave . But they are suffering . Just so they don’t leave to go to the outside world. The Eldridge abominations. Orapathy . It’s all a tactic of control of the people. So that they are not curious . So they don’t question. So they never ever see the beauty of what’s beyond what they know. They even cut off all water from the outside world to keep people from escaping. But they don’t know . There a rebellion starting . And Te infected aren’t the only ones that will fight . My faction . The light bringers will lead them all to the outside world and prove once and for all . The out side world is not what the governments say they are

      @@Bake-kurijra A) learn to fucking spell, it's "eldritch" and "Oripathy".
      B) what the actual fuck is that bizarre, rambling, incoherent, paranoid conspiracy-theory fanfiction? (owait I answered myself)
      C) have you even *read* the actual lore?
      We have witness statements from people who've personally fought the _things_ from the wastelands (Patriot says hi).
      Wall? _What_ fucking wall? The northern and southern frontiers are zillion miles of empty wilderness fading into glaciers and burning deserts; Ursus just has a string of little garrison outposts there as tripwires against things wandering southwards, and such state authority as now exists in Sargon goes quite unheeded by the hardy tribes of the desert belt (Beeswax and Carnelian hail from one of those).
      Ain't nobody got resources to build nevermind maintain walls there, and only foolhardy "climb the mountain because it's there" explorer types like Magallan even want to venture into the uninhabitable wastelands beyond in the first place. (Well and nutjobs like Edgy Hors Tola on his bizarre kamikaze vision quest I guess.)
      Which the Ursus gov't is perfectly fine with btw; they just shoo her away from if-you-knew-we'd-have-to-kill-you kind of sensitive sites to avoid unnecessary complications - her Module story bit heavily implies, what with the mention of black snow falling, she once almost stumbled onto the Sunset Valley which is apparently where Ursus stores the remnants of intruding glacier demons they've dealt with and where the Emperor's Blades undergo weird and dangerous procedures to bind with such bits for MOAR POWER. (See also what Kalt, She Who Knoweth Far Too Much, has to say about such things in her event story bits.)
