You should make a what if where Goku seeks out techniques instead of power (for the most part). I always didn't like how he relies on power even though his martial arts carried him through a lot of the story originally. Obviously he still seeks growth in power but his main focus would be becoming the best martial artist / technician.
Luffy may not be smart in the academic sense but he has great fighting instincts and can find the simple solution to various problems. Just like the impossible choice.
The scariest part is that joseph even before his training reacted to a beam of light from the redstone of aja. He is cooking the exams with his iq and stats
@@TheSaladBar He didnt know if we didnt know most people in the comment section would do it💀Also in my opinions joseph is one of the if not the smartest character battle iq wise in most of anime
Honestly the trick question is probably more generous than we think What they punish is a smartass answer like "I save my mother because I only have one" showing that they didn't take the emotional part of the dilemma seriously But if a character like Luffy were to say "i'll save one and trust my friends to save the other" or "I'll do everything I can to save both even if I have to die trying" I'm not sure I'd be considered a bad answer, the grandma is probably allowed to pick what qualifies and what doesn't.
And Naruro conveniently passes the written portion of the Chunin Exams by answering a similar trick question. So he'd probably just be like, "I'll save them both because I never give up and never go back on my word! Believe it! That's my Ninja Way!" (Dattebayo!)
Then he’d get told he failed, we’d hear the music, the swing would appear, maybe 10 minutes of flashback later his emotional recap touches the adjudicators heart and he passes
I think the whole answer bit was punished less because of it being snarky but more because it wasn't genuine. The guy was clearly trying to give what was the on-paper 'correct' response without actually answering the question. He was trying to play the crowd and was punished for it.
I'd imagine he'd perform relatively similar to Gon, except I'm honestly not sure if Goku would be able to get Hisoka's tag like Gon was able to (I say this because I don't think Goku would win in a fight and I can't see Goku going stealth), and Goku would also prob actively fight a lot more
@@k1llsh0t_87 He'd out scale hisoka very quickly and if hisoka beats him up then boom zenkai boost. Because Goku has a way higher potential than Gon so there's no way Hisoka will kill him.
[15:06] For Luffy it's difficult to say because while he's impulsive and would not want to lose anyone he cares about he's also very emotionally intelligent so he might be able to guess his way to the right answer based on his instincts. Of course I could also see him saying something along the lines of "I don't care what you say old lady, I'd save both my Nakama and family." because we all know Luffy would associate lover as Nakama.
Luffy would definitely pair up with other testers who can help him pick up the slack, like the HXH main characters sort of did. He's very socially motivated so he's definitely going to be fine.
The thing is that Luffy "emotional intelligence" comes from how he's able to pick up on clues that most others wouldn't notice if they were in distress. It's like knowing that Nami was hiding something and didn't actually abandon the crew because she was evil, she did so in order to protect her village and the people she loves. But Luffy can't use his emotional intelligence to tell him if someone's asking a trick question. Luffy will just fall for it, most likely for comedic purposes. There's plenty of times where Luffy will fall for dirty tricks, because he genuinely can't tell whether the opponent is lying or not. Just look at his entire fight with Foxy.
Going to call it out right here. Kid Goku and Gon are basically the same person. Wicked strong and powerful instincts, with similar cheerful personalities and levels of intelligence.
I'd argue Goku is somewhat more ethically sound, oddly. There are a lot of similarities, but on D&D alignment chart or whatever other metric I'd call Goku more "good" and Gon more "lawful". Even before he goes pretty dark later on, Gon early in the story has reactions akin to "Oh no, they died! Anyway...". He cares about people close to him, but he doesn't have nearly same kind of meddling "do good" as Goku, while Goku doesn't exhibit as strict an adherence to his own principles or even display many coherent principles...Gon's are warped, but he has them.
@@TheMelnTeam Scrap the D&D alignment charts. Goku is indeed more naive and idealistic. Toriyama writes things a lot more light hearted. The world of Hunter X Hunter is absolutely brutal and Gon reflects this. They're both good btw they're just different.
@@Trakesh I agree on Goku's mind set but Goku day 1 is already on par with most novice nen users and here's his feats at EP 1. Took a bullet to the head and it only caused pain, it did not even hurt him. Said he could out run Bulma's motorcicle (more like complained why not run because it would be faster). Lifted a fish the size of a Jeep Killed a HUGE pitedoractyl on a single blow Lifted and trew Bulma's car. Basicaly he was faster, stronger, more durable and was skilled at martial arts. I could see Goku brute force his way to the final exam and "pure heart" what he could not. And that's early Goku, Roshi's first tranning Goku was already on par with some of the most powerful nen users and Kid Goku vs King Piccolo was next to Meruen levels of raw power. I could also see Hisoka going serious mode on Goku and killing him if it was day 1 Goku, it's true he would mostly spare him because of his potential but if could kill him if he wanted and have would use some sort of out of the box method as he would barely able to hurt him at all but out smart him like using his nen to glue Goku underwater and drown him to death for example.
@@darkonekosuke2 I think you need to frame it as Yusuke after he became spirit detective, but before he meets Genkai. At least it would give him a reason actually be doing the Hunter Exam, because otherwise there wouldn't be a real reason why he would care.
@@AussieDragoon Yeah, literal start of story I'm not sure the spoiler stuff matters. It certainly hasn't manifested in any way that would be more relevant to the hunter exam than it would be in his actual story. I think you have to give him some of his story's training like you + video say, both for sufficient strength and for sufficient motivation.
Joseph even before his training actually drew blood from Wammu who’s stronger than Dio was doing their first encounter, he was already a beast before training.
@mumenrider1908 That’s not how that works at all. P1 Dio scales way bove a regular grown man and is an immortal vampire with crazy regeration. Even if Jotaro could hurt him he'd just head. Also any physical blow would cause Jotaro to freeze on contact. He's need Hamon which he has mever used with no stand he's getting eaten alive. Literally
@@Deery3911 I'm getting tired of saying this, but Space Ripper Stingy Eyes isn't lasers. It's a pair of extremely high pressure jets of blood and other bodily fluids. You can literally see his pupils open up to shoot out said fluids.
Yuji Itaodori, who is the modern reincarnation of Gon, passing the Hunter Exam feels poetic. I'd think he'd have a better time, even despite his *unique genealogy*, since he's even more of a freak than Gon. Gon is only better for perception, but in terms of physical strength, Yuji is almost a Janjanken Abuser in terms of how much of an amp he gets from being alive. [15:06] I think that Yuji would get stunlocked. He wouldn't be able to answer, crying about the nature of not being able to give a good death to either. However, he may pull a Leorio, and jack the woman up. A better question would be whether Yuji would be able to resist trying to save the guy who gets attacked, since he has great hearing. That would be a much better question, since *everyone* deserves a good death.
I don't think that Yuji would get stunlocked. Whenever characters in JJK ask him a question, Yuji is notably someone who doesn't try to think introspectively about it or try to choose the best result that makes him look good, he just answers bluntly how he feels. Whether that be by Principal Yaga, Todo, those classmates in his class asking which girl he likes, Higuruma, etc, Yuji isn't one to hesitate when it comes to answering questions.
It's honestly a shame that the author went with just giving him One For All instead of keeping him Quirkless and going the Batman route, Crazy physical training + Intelligence + Gadgets.
Asta i don't think would pass without his swords, but would pass with them, the test i don't think he'd pass mainly because asta is waaaay to hung up on sister lily he'd say sister lily and fail
@@TheSaladBar would be cool! I'd also love to see you take on Edward Erick. I also think it could be fun to look at all the different StrawHats and see how they would fare
Bro punched his way out of the ground in the Wheel of Fortune fight (after being burned alive). He grappled with death when he stopped his own heart just to surprise DIO. He lost liters of blood and broke bones and continued fighting in basically every fight. In the fight against DIO he survived being stabbed by multiple knives, had his ribs entirely shattered, most likely exhausted from all the running around and stress for the entire day and night even before reaching DIO as he had to go trough the mansion and fight little D'arby, and was crushed by a fucking steamroller and still stood proud in the face of DIO (even if at the last one star platinum helped a lot) He even survived being on a plane with Joseph, twice Bro is a menace.
@@aaa-hs3it sounds like you don't know how op JoJo characters are, seriously, every mfs from JoJo can beat your ass like I ain't kidding they're ridiculously strong, and this is coming from a basement dweller like me who have watched alot of shonen
I feel like if Luffy was asked that question he would answer saying he’d save both and he’d refuse to accept only saving one. He’s never been someone to compromise, he goes all in no matter what, so even if you told him he could only choose one he’d probably insist that he’d be able to save both
I would have liked to see a rundown of what the individual stages of the exam are (since I don't remember the exact specifics of them all) and more discussion of how their characterization and mindsets would have impacted their chances of passing. Basically that bit at the end with Preliminary question is more of what I'm interested in, that just discussing the pure feats of strength and speed. (as an aside, for the trick portion wouldn't it have made more sense for them to replace Gon in that group instead of Tonpa?) Anyway, as for who I'd be interested in seeing for a follow up video: My top most interested choice would be Naruto Uzumaki. But other choices I'd be interested in are Usagi Tsukino, Eren Jaeger, Ichigo Kurosaki, Yoh Asakura, and Denji from Chainsawman
I wholeheartedly agree on the characters replacing Gon rather than Tonpa since the latter would fall into the same criteria as Hisoka and Illumi being threatening examinees.
Something people dont respect about luffys strength is that the df doesnt just make him able to extend his parts at will. His long stretches are him throwing his arm out that hardand then holding it there. Imagine how hard youd have to throw a punch to jave it extend that far if youre arm was made of rubber. Luffy is a monster.
I mean, if you consider that Ace as a 10 year old could literally destroy rocks the size of houses and Kufdy is supposed to be an anomaly then it's safe to assume he has insane strength that is overlooked I mean Luffy in the first 15 chapters of the story literally sent a guy flying to another island. You know how strong you have to be to send someone to another island
@@eonragnarock2366 Luffy was even younger at the time so, considering he's younger only makes him have 3-4 more yrs at the same amount of strength of Ace 😀
I agree on his strength, but I wonder about his durability. Much of his durability also comes from his devil fruit, which lets him absorb or rebound things that would otherwise hurt him. It's hard to say how durable or how well he could take a punch without being made of rubber.
@@michaelbarrington2806 Well considering that everytime Luffy gets hit by a haki punch he's basically a normal human in durability I think he's fine. Luffy is also above Usopp who gets crushed by 22,000 lbs and is still fine. Usopp also gets his head cracked by a 4 ton hammer and launched through some debris and could still move and fight. Not to mention Luffy got stabbed by a hook and at the same time lifted and thrown into quick sand. Was buried for don't know how long and still managed to survive long enough until Robin saved him. In drum island Luffy also climbed a 5,000 meter mountain while carrying 2 people with his bare hands in the cold All those are durability feats Luffy has without his devil fruit that are before Skypeia.
So glad seeing people recognizing how cracked Deku was even before getting his powers. Dude was pulling off feats of strength our top bodybuilders and strong men would blush at for a guy so tiny.
For real. Not to mention, I was actually baffled seeing bakugo block one of his attacks with his friggin BARE ARMS. 5% one for all would have shattered his arms. And I’m pretty sure Deku was using 8% at that point. Bakugo should have been cooked.
The fact thathe somehow wound up at the BOTTOM of aizawa's physical exam against people like toruh who has a quirk that helps nothing or people who do well in only one category
One thing that a lot of people miss is just how strong you can get unrelated to a quirk. Like Stain's quirk did not make him faster, stronger or tougher but he was able to do pretty well against the three. Sure his quirk helped but all it did is put them in time out after he injured them. Like he was able to react to Deku who was using full cowl and moving at speeds faster than any quirkless human can, while hitting with enough force to destroy walls.
The issue for these kinds of comparisons is that these stories take place in heightened worlds that aren’t supposed to be realistic or taken literally. Deku did show some crazy feats but he did poorly in the physical tests once he has OFA - so he scales pretty low compared to the rest of his class without his quirk. He also gets physically overpowered by Shinso without his quirk later on. Stuff like Bakugo blocking a 5/8% punch is probably a combo of Deku still holding back and rule of cool. Rule of cool is a really big factor in anime - it’s just more exciting if guys like Bakugo can be smashed through walls and be fine or release huge explosions in people’s faces without it just destroying them. Or how about in nearly every Jojo fight they get mortally wounded and as soon as the fight’s over they’re basically fine. Applying too much realism to larger than life power fantasy stories is to take something away from what’s so fun about them.
Yusuke does have a genetic legacy. But it only triggers in the last season or so after coming into contact with divine energies, so it probably doesn’t change anything except how easy he might awaken Nen in the last phase of the exam
Sort of, it does retroactively explain why he's stronger than other kids his age despite not training or really doing much than would make him that strong.
Yusuke had already had his "nen" unlocked, even in pre-training. Remember that Yusuke was resurrected with, allbeit jaded, spiritual awareness, and he already had his hatsu in the form of guns, and he had an extremely rudimentary lesson on "nen" in his encounter with his POS teachers.
Togashi did not invent "Nen" it's just the Japanese word for psi or psychic. YYH uses nen and calls it nen. Yuusuke had nen abilities from birth. The manga has many chapters early in that were never adapted
@@aerth6946 It kinda was 'innate' it's just that his body was too weak to get it to activate, it's kinda like if Goku grew up a buddist monk, like no fighting at all til age 80. not as strong since he didn't 'use' his race powers, I wanna go into detail but also not spoil anything.
I think most people underestimate the runing part of the exam 80 km/~50 miles under 4 hour is insane feat for a normal human. Kenyan athlete Kelvin Kiptum set a men's world record time of 2:00:35 on October 8, 2023, at the 2023 Chicago Marathon. So all the hunter exams basicly ran a record winning marathon back to back.
It's a pretty typical 'protagonist' thing for heroes to not accept or compromise when it comes to saving people - refusing to accept these sorts of "Pick one" situations. SO I find it pretty unlikely for any of these characters to fail that pre-exam, although I don't know Yusuke very well.
Yusuke will do one of wo things he either will refuse to answer because at the beginning of his series he has that whole 'im too cool' thing going on or if he does answer he will say he saves both. His series does start with him dying to save a random kid after all.
@@fairystail1 Knowing Yusuke I'd expect him to first and foremost get pissed. He is the only character in the list to have a true love and mother he values immensely which also would lend to his reaction because the idea of them being threatened upsets him. Plus, he's the type to not admit how much he cares about them and would hate thinking about being put in that situation, so he gets mad instead. However, if he were to answer earnestly, he'd probably say he would die for both of them, he's a little quick on the self sacrifice.
@@fairystail1 nope. He would just tell the old woman, "I'll fight with you." Kuwabara would tell him, "Urameshi are you serious??" And then he will respond, "She's a fighter and she's trying to get in our way. I don't care if she's a girl, a baby, or somebody's grandmother. I'll still knock her out!!"
Agreed. Yusuke is the most ill-tempered out of everyone here (Joseph being second place). He’d be the most likely to lose his cool. But he cares about his friends and family deep down; not even considering how he saved a random kid.
I think they'd be alright though, the guy who was punished was being disingenuous in his answer, just choosing what he predicted the 'correct' answer rather than express his own feelings and acknowledge the weight of his decision.
During your Luffy segment you mentioned Ace’s Devil Fruit, and spoilers ahead but, we know for a fact that ace found his DF after leaving Dawn Island, he found it in the island where he met Masked Deuce(his first crewmate), this was revealed in Ace’s light novel so that may be why you didn’t know but either way, he didn’t have it when he was growing up with Luffy and Sabo
even if we didn't know about the Ace novel, when Luffy first saw Ace in Alabasta he said "You ate a devil fruit?" which confirms he did eat it after leaving Fusha since Luffy didn't know
@@TertiaryTrashYeah, and Luffy even straight up says on the Going Merry that Ace never had a Devil Fruit all the times they had fought as kids, but he still never managed to beat Ace.

I love these videos. As an amateur writer it really makes me appreciate all the details of the characters I love and helps me understand their similarities and differences.
I'm certain Yusuke would pass the pre-exam, in a Leorio manner. The biggest difference is that he wouldn't be interested in the question at all at first- he's a surly teenager who don't got time for this nonsense, okay? Rather than wait around for the old Granny to ask the question he would try to get around her, even if it means climbing up those rickety houses. When that doesn't work, that's when he'd be paying attention enough to get pissed. Yuuji would also pass, but it's too funny to imagine- Old Woman: "Do you save your father or your mother?" Yuuji: "But I don't have either?" Seriously though, of the four protags who'd probably not figure out the trick (hell, out of all of them), Yuuji is the most likely to take his time and THINK about the question, just like Gon did. I don't know enough about either Luffy or Goku to answer for them. But I do want to say that I love you pointing out that Jotaro would just remain silent anyways, absolutely nailed his character in one line.
Deku ranked last in his class in the initial skills test, losing to Hagakure and Koji. Earphone Jack was really surprised Koji could talk during their fight with present mic too.
That test was a quirk apprehension test, meaning Aizawa was giving them points based on how they use their quirks in those physical test. Considering Hagakure had a non-physical quirk, her point gain probably was more lenient compared to Midoriya who should be excelling in every test because of his quirk being a physical enhancement type.
Two thoughts, obviously both opinions 1.) This one is for many folks here. I think the trick question is often misunderstood. The correct answer wasn't necessarily to stay silent, but to understand the purpose behind the question. Even though she said they would pass or fail together, it seemed clear to me that Granny was still testing them individually, both on their answers and their characters. Remember, she asked the first guy for the reasoning behind his answer, if he would have gave sound reasoning with conviction he might have still passed, instead of just saying what he though Granny wanted to hear. As for our main group, as soon as she recognized Kurapika figured it out, she forced him to stay silent so she could judge Leorio who already said there was no right answer, but didn't quite understand the meaning of that yet. Leorio's passionate refusal of either answer and quick understanding once he calmed down got him the pass. As for Gon, if he didn't speak up when he did, I suspect Granny would have prompted him for his thoughts and complete non-understanding may still have caused him to fail, but he clearly showed a deeper understanding than even Kurapika to recognize that even if there is no right answer, he might still be forced to make the decision as a hunter anyway. But like I said, I feel like she was judging both answers and characters, so even a complete non-understanding of the question due to purity/innocence like Kid Goku, might still get him a pass because Granny liked meeting interesting people and Kid Goku is definitely interesting lol. That's just my take at least. 2.) This one is about Yusuke. I feel like @TheSaladBar greatly underestimates Yusuke, not even for anything that happens later in the series as none of that would have come into the equation. Without going deeper into that, Yusuke has come near death many time, but none of that showed up until he could handle it. But as for series start Yusuke, even before he died, he was a street fighting prodigy and from what I remember, his spirit world ordeal didn't buff his attributes at all, not even his spirit energy, he just learned the ability to utilize it as an external force. Also, even if you use post death Yusuke, it wouldn't make much of a difference because he was only able to use his spirit gun once a day and it packed about as much punch as one of his own unless he used the concentration ring to enhance it and using the ring would leave him completely exhausted. With all that considered, base Yusuke still had ridiculous amounts of stamina, resilience, and durability. He was tanking hits that would have killed a normal person and keeping up with the likes of Hiei during their fight. Yusuke's first real training was with Genkai, so if you are considering everything before that point pre-training, Yusuke has definitely shown he can hold his own in a tournament with some pretty powerful opponents that already had a much greater control of their spirit/demon energy. As for Zevil Island, I'm willing to bet that Yusuke would have just beaten on the three Amori brothers and taken their badges lol. If he did have to go up against Hisoka, I think he would have let Yusuke live after sensing his potential and of course Yusuke would pass his test of not running away, no question there. Trick Tower you said he would take the place of Tonpa, so while there would have been different arguments in the group, I can't see him not passing with the rest of the group. Finally with the quiz, I guess I kinda went in reverse order lol, He may or may not pass that as intended. I see him having a similar reaction as Leorio, but answering wrong doesn't disqualify you, Granny would just send you on the "wrong" path. However, as shown in Genkai's tournament, that would not have stopped Yusuke as he would just take the straight path to the tree, because obviously its the "shortest" path :p. It would end much the same and I suspect that just taking that route and making it through would have been enough to convince the Kiriko family to bring him to the exam location. Again, this is just my take on things. Thanks for listening to my ramblings and I hope at least someone enjoys reading this mess lol.
Loved the video man! I think you’re spot on for each one. I think you should do a follow up video on what you believe each of these MC’s Nen affinity would be. That or how their actual abilities from their anime’s would translate into a Nen Hatsu(s). Also the kind of Hunters they’d be. Maybe even how they’d handle the Chimera Ant Arc
@TheSaladBar goku would pass as he literally doesn't know what either of things are as a kid, he would ask, "whats a mother, whats a true love, are they some kind of food?
Fun fact: Joseph actually had hermit purple but doesn’t realize it. If you slow down the opening you can see hermit purple. Hermit purple allowed Joseph to read people’s mind so that’s why Joseph knew what everyone was going to say.
luffy to Hisoka “Ah you think gum is your ally? You merely adopted the gum. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see the light of Nika until I was already a man, by then it was nothing to me but blinding!”
If he does, he better do my main man Kuwabara justice, ESPECIALLY since he has WAAAAY better spiritual awareness. I think he was the top dog in spiritual awareness.
Love this video, Izuku doesn't get enough credit after his training. He's a beast, and that's him quirkless. I know you might not reply, but I'm wondering how all the MC's interact to each other, based on their personalities.
14:38 Kid Goku wouldn’t understand what a mom or love even are since he grew up in a forest on a mountain littered with dinosaurs, monsters, animals, and his grandpa…. Well not anymore but- lol, Yuji would most likely respond with both, Yusuke would either be silent due to how he’s sort of a delinquent but also not willing to openly show to much affection, or he’d say the true love since he hates his mom lmao Luffy would just ask more questions about the situation until they just decide to kick him out anyway
Really like your video, one small correction though to what you said about early Deku “he can barely control 5% of One for All at this point”, he actually couldn’t control it at all. He’s literally 0% or 100% until season 2, with a few exceptions where he still doesn’t have a concept of a percentile limitation. The full-cowl technique is a limitation, so I would equate his control over 1-4-All to a post-nen awakened Hunter who has trained with a mentor and possibly even put it in the same category as a nen-condition.
I don't know why nobody else has ever come to this conclusion, but I feel like Joseph took to Hamon like a fish to water because his mother, Lisa Lisa, was a Hamon master. She would've been using Sendo breathing techniques while she was pregnant, and it's reasonable to assume that it would result in a natural affinity for the energy when the baby was born.
A lot of those that would 'fail' the trick question would be exempt from failing it for one very important reason; they are Very VERY strong. A not so subtle way to get a hunter license in the Netero era is to impress or beat up Netero himself. Doing so, you can get a license then and there, and probably a single star right off the bat as well. Granted many of these protags couldn't be netero in arc 1, it'd probably take post timeskip luffy or starting Z goku to do so. Granted luffy and goku would just go 'uuuuh.....' and be stuck on the timer that way.
Ehhhhh goku anytime after training with roshi is too much for netero. Not to say that netero isn't the goat but... Db powerscaling goes "they break boulders and are scary" in episode 10 to "so we blew up the moon" by the first budokai.
About last part. Luffy/Itadory will probably say that they will save both. And will be getting angry at grandma when she will try to say choose only one. Idk about Yusuke but Goku will just say "I have mom?" or "What is Mom/True love" And can he eat it. I belive Luffy and itadory will pss due to their Sheer will power to left no one behind. And goku will fail, because he is just a child that known no harm or evil, and thus cannot be accepted into cruel world of hunters. Or they pass him because he doesnt know anything.
@@ArcCaravan thats true, but i mean goku doesn't know anything about the world, he was living in a mountains alone, He didnt even knew what a girl is! But point taken.

Young Goku (Dragon Ball) would brute force his way around. Unless it's some mind games or smarts related he would be stomped. While Izuku "Deku" (My Hero Academia) would probably be perceptive enough to gather data and solve the problem in his own way. Luffy (One Piece) is basically an air head who can survive most things, and use his power like Hisoka's Bungee Gum. Straight up chaos. Jo Star "anyone of them" (Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure) would be basically use all his shonen protagonist swag to "Stand" his ground. Basically mostly using Stand and martial arts combo. Fusuke (Ninku) a 12 year old ninja, who fights a like a ninja pro... when he is in his serious mode. Naruto (Naruto) despite being young, and makes mistakes, he's the type that won't give up. And has Kagebunshin to test dangerous areas. Yusuke (Yu Yu Hakusho) pretty much a delinquent with Spirit Power like a gun. Mostly gunning down and beating anyone senseless in his way. Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach) Basically Yusuke, but with swords and shinigami magic. Ryo Saeba (City Hunter), the guy is basically Asian Rambo. Medaka (Medaka Box) One of the strongest female protagonist of Shonen Jump, Asta (Black Clover) like most begining story, his sword skills would still be rough, and mostly his sword can cut any "Magic", meaning "Nen" skill could be nullified. Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star) already over powered if he participated. Kenshin Himura (Samurai X) he maybe a good swordsman, but with the no kill "humans" hindering him, is nerf in his survival. Gintoki Sakata (Gintama) basically same as Kenshin, has skill of a "White Yaksha", but mostly gets hits with absurd punchlines and joke events. Tanjiro Kamado (Demon Slayer) the guy is basically a rookie swordsman, he's instinct and sword skills would awaken during the exam. Denji (Chainsaw), yeah he fights like a crazy chainsaw wielding serial killer, passing the exam is slim. Anyway, depending on the variable of the Exam themes, it depends on the strengths and weaknesses if they can surpass those problems. So it's hard for me to gauge the likely hood, especially if all the protagonists are taking the exams in the strat of there stories or them gaining there powers and abilities.
About the question 1-Joseph would probably confused the person that ask the question to the point they have tolet him continue 2-kid goku will be more confused about what exactly family and lover is 3-Itadori will sit down for hours truing to give an answer
Yeah even quirk Izuku would 100% die. People forgets that Gon isn't a normal kid, he is able to keep up with a genius among the best trained assassins in that world without any training, hell even Leorio managed to pass Hisoka's test and was lucky enough to befriend the others during that exam, I doubt Izuku would had, kid is the most random dude possible, Hunters are 0,1% of a population that is ten times the number of our current population.

If you do a video like this again- one specifically about the Hunter Exams I mean- it might be more interesting to explore who you think WOULDN'T pass the exam. Like you said in the video, all of these characters more or less have the right stats and mindset to make this work. Most Shonen protagonist probably do. More interesting would be exploring the ones who, for whatever reason, wouldn't be able to cut it!
Denji for one wouldn’t lol. He’s definitely got the strength for it and skill with using a chainsaw. But he’s a bloody idiot who wouldn’t pick up on any of the subtle tests. If you used him before his hybrid state he’d get outsmarted and killed in the 4th part since his only experience in combat is killing devils in the suburbs and he wouldn’t be able to really sense tricks or strategies from people (And this is being generous in saying that he makes it through Trick Tower). Even with his Hybrid State he’d flatout end up killing someone in the final part of the exam or making someone bleed to death.
HAHHAHAHA. Just seeing Kid goku on the thumbnail, my immediate reaction was "Well Duh he passes of course" and then bro spends pretty much only as minute to say "He effortlessly passes all phases" and moves to the next characer. Love it
I feel like even if Jotaro probably would stay silent. He may say mother due to the whole point of Stardust Crusaders was to save Holly in the first place. I feel like Joesph would also answer and say true love due to not actually knowing his mother by that point in the narrative. Goku would probably be blunt and just say he doesnt know who his mom is and that he doesnt care about love seeing how he is so young.

Great idea for a video! Once they get to the riddle, I think you’re right in that Deku and the Joestars will be fine. If it’s the same group, the rest will be fine as well. However, if it’s not the same or a similar group, Goku and Luffy are failing for sure. Yusuke and Yuji are gonna be 50-50 depending on particulars. ~_~
I think Luffy would answer “both” to the granny. Although his book smarts are practically non-existent, he has an extremely developed sense of emotional intelligence. He’s also acutely aware of his strengths and weaknesses, and always pairs up with people that can do the things he can’t. His has shown the ability to innately sense people’s intent. He’d save the person he perceives is most in need of his abilities, and would trust his companions to save the other. I believe he’d pass.
I loved the video. Although I think stamina might be downplayed in general here. We haven’t seen many of these characters run a distance of over 80km (50 miles). It’s humanly possible, but it’s an incredible feat stamina wise that we don’t see often. Gotta wonder if their endurance can hold out (pushing themselves to endure it absolutely though).
taking their abilities away kind of ruins the whole hypothetical, ik you include it later but still, feels pointless when you just throw a scrawny teenage midoria
luffys devil fruit doesnt add momentum, it stores and redirects it. he has to give his punches that initial stretch entirely on his own power. so imagine throwing a punch so hard it forces a bungee cord to stretch like 50 plus feet. (gum gum pistol) or hooking that cord onto a tree and stretching it back 50 feet and still being able to hold it still. (gum gum rocket)
Argument in favor: His strength is upgraded due the DF He can't swim The fruit is Looney Toons powers, so anything that should kill you will kill Luffy Counter argument: Luffy can break steal and destroy buildings with his own hands without any build up. "I'm stuck on the tower" just creates his own path. Luffy isn't slow nor has bad stamina, he can run islands in minutes Luffy's sense of direction isn't awful like Zoro's, he knows where to go, so he always ends up where he's needed (The times were he doesn't is because he gets captured pr restraint by someone or something) What about learning Nen? Probably won't learn it because he is an asswhole to everyone who he isn't interested nor has the patience to do it how Kon did it. Final opinion: Removing his DF is always a stupid choice in this type of videos because you don't know where draw the line of "Is normal Luffy? Is he using his DF? He can survive due his DF of because he's strong?"
@@Ro321chile guy learned advanced haki while imprisoned, in poor conditions and in like two weeks. Hes stupid, but being dumb never restricted anyone to learn nen. Luffy and Ace were raised and trained by their grandpa, the hero of the marines they were monsters at a young age. Going in before watching the video, I'd think the marathon would be the biggest hurdle. The hero's from more grounded series may just boy out from exhaustion.
Luffy would either immediately say he'd save both, or just think about it too hard and make his brain hurt resulting in him passing just because he took too long trying to think about it while never coming up with an actual answer lol. Though there is always the off chance he'd actually not answer because he knows there's no real right answer. Although he's not the brightest bulb in the shed in a lot of situations, there are moments when he shows some surprising insight. Like back in Alabasta when he realizes that running around trying to meet the rebels is pointless and Vivi's doing it because she doesn't want any of said rebels and her citizens to die. But if they want to actually solve the core problem, they have to be willing to risk lives and go straight to Crocodile himself. Scrambling around trying to save every life was both impossible and wasting valuable time.
Another point for Luffy, One Piece humans are absurdly strong, especially Luffy even without his fruit… I know it’s during the grand line, but his ability to throw a golden ball calculated to be roughly over 200 thousand tons is not something being carried by his fruit, even without his fruit he would be strong enough to carry that ball, so considering East blue and Skypeia are within a few weeks of eachother means that beginning of series Luffy is likely capable of that as well
You forgot that he out muscled Arlong (who is at bare minimum 10 times stronger then a normal human) without stretching multiple times during their fight.
Someone I think would have been really interesting to see is Yuma Kuga from world trigger. Generally, world triggers power level has absolutely no chance compared to other shonen series, but I think it's at least very similar to the beginning of hunter x hunter, maybe a little higher depending on the triggers. Especially personality wise, it would be a really interesting discussion. Also wether or not he'd be able to learn Nen, since Trion isn't something you can "learn" like most shonen powers
For the pre-exam question, I think the response of rejecting the premise and saving both is also acceptable, or some other form of NOT sacrificing someone would work.

You should make a what if where Goku seeks out techniques instead of power (for the most part). Honestly the trick question is probably more generous than we think
What they punish is a smartass answer like "I save my mother because I only have one" showing that they didn't take the emotional part of the dilemma seriously
But if a character like Luffy were to say "i'll save one and trust my friends to save the other" or "I'll do everything I can to save both even if I have to die trying" I'm not sure I'd be considered a bad answer, the grandma is probably allowed to pick what qualifies and what doesn't.
I'd imagine there really is no "right" answer, yeah.
@mdbgamer556 correct. Both the grandma and Kurapika state that there is no right answer. This is why Kurapika answered with silence
I think the whole answer bit was punished less because of it being snarky but more because it wasn't genuine. The guy was clearly trying to give what was the on-paper 'correct' response without actually answering the question. He was trying to play the crowd and was punished for it.

So accurate
Luffy would fall asleep and pass. If he doesn't find something interesting he sleeps, he'd pass simply because they would realize after they passed.

Scrap the D&D alignment charts. Goku is indeed more naive and idealistic. Toriyama writes things a lot more light hearted. The world of Hunter X Hunter is absolutely brutal and Gon reflects this.

Lifted a fish the size of a Jeep
Killed a HUGE pitedoractyl on a single blow
Lifted and trew Bulma's car.
@@Trakesh I would say the D&D chart is interesting but its more that Gon is Lawful and Goku is Chaotic, but both on the good side.

Exactly, allways remember he one shotted bellamy without using his fruit
I mean, if you consider that Ace as a 10 year old could literally destroy rocks the size of houses and Kufdy is supposed to be an anomaly then it's safe to assume he has insane strength that is overlooked
I mean Luffy in the first 15 chapters of the story literally sent a guy flying to another island.
In drum island Luffy also climbed a 5,000 meter mountain while carrying 2 people with his bare hands in the cold
All those are durability feats Luffy has without his devil fruit that are before Skypeia.
So glad seeing people recognizing how cracked Deku was even before getting his powers. Dude was pulling off feats of strength our top bodybuilders and strong men would blush at for a guy so tiny.

Honestly. Even without One For All, he was already one of the physically strongest members in his class.
Togashi did not invent "Nen" it's just the Japanese word for psi
or psychic. YYH uses nen and calls it nen. Yuusuke had nen abilities from birth. The manga has many chapters early in that were never adapted
@@Thromaz no no. Hunter Hunter uses "nen". I just put it in quotes because this would just translate to energy, or just Ki in the Yu Yu Hakusho lands.
Let's just say, there is a bit of change in later Yu Yu chapters that might slightly alter the results.
Of course there is 😭 I’m still not too far into it but I’m not surprised I jumped the gun (thanks for not outright spoiling it too)
@@TheSaladBar no spoil but lets just say later in YYH you find out that Yusuke’s not just gonna go out like that
But it still wasn't an innate ability. Yusuke had to go through "that thing" first.
SPOILERS
I don't think Yusuke's later genetic reveal would change the exam results. It'd be like Kid Goku getting Super Saiyan or Ultra Instinct.
Yusuke will do one of wo things
he either will refuse to answer because at the beginning of his series he has that whole 'im too cool' thing going on
or if he does answer he will say he saves both.
Goku would not have understood the question but he would think about it so much that he accidentally passes off or complete luck 😂
I remember that story getting adapted into a special chapter with a guest artist.
@@ArcCaravan It got made into 3 by Boichi, the mangaka of Dr. Stone.
even if we didn't know about the Ace novel, when Luffy first saw Ace in Alabasta he said "You ate a devil fruit?" which confirms he did eat it after leaving Fusha since Luffy didn't know
@@TertiaryTrashYeah, and Luffy even straight up says on the Going Merry that Ace never had a Devil Fruit all the times they had fought as kids, but he still never managed to beat Ace.

My take on each character’s response to the question, fail and pass.
Joseph Fail: I never knew my mom. So I guess I’ll save her. I can’t imagine myself with only one lover. (Strikes a pose. Gets shown the wrong path and leaves to the wrong path)
Joseph Pass: (after giving the question some thought) Next you’ll say! The real path is right over here! (Points to the real path)
Deku Fail: I don’t have a true love so I chose my mom. (Gets shown the wrong path and leaves to the wrong path)
Deku Pass: (mutters to himself all the possible outcomes of the answers) What I passed? Oh, that’s right a possible answer is not answering. (Gets shown the right path and leaves through the right path)
Jotaro Fail: Good Grief. As much as I hate the old hag I still save her. (Gets shown the wrong path and leaves to the wrong path)
Jotaro Pass: … … … (pass and gets shown the right path) … … … (leaves without saying a word)
Luffy Fail: I don’t have a mom, but I truly love my friends so I’ll save them. (Gets shown the wrong path and leaves to the wrong path)
Luffy Pass: Did they ask for help? (Quiz Lady answers: they both did) Then the answer is simple. (Takes hat off and places it on chest. The count down begins and end. Passes and gets shown the right way. Walks a few steps towards the right path and shout) I’ll save them all! (Runs away before he can fail the question)
Goku Fail: (after clarifying what a mother and a lover is) Well gosh that’s a hard question. (Count down starts and Goku starts to panic. It reaches to 1) I chose one! I chose one! (Gets shown the wrong path and leaves to the wrong path)
Goku Pass: (after clarifying what a mother and a lover is) Well gosh that’s a hard question. (Count down starts and Goku doesn’t start to panic. It reaches to 1. Goku doesn’t say anything. The right path is shown. Goku is still not responding) Nope I still don’t understand the question. (The quiz lady and the background characters does the face fault and Goku leaves) Thanks for showing me the right path.
Yuji Fail: My mom is already dead so I guess I’ll save my true love. (Gets shown the wrong path and leaves to the wrong path)
Yuji Pass: Oh, I heard of this type of question before in my occult research club. (Stays silent and is shown the right path) Who knew joining that club would come in handy like this.
Yusuke Fail: What do you mean I can’t pick both! The only saving you need to be asking is if you’re going to be safe from me. (Gets shown the wrong way) Now was that so hard. (Leaves the wrong way)
Yusuke Pass: (Can’t decide on who to choose. The count down starts and ends) What you’re showing me the right way even though I didn’t say anything. (Gets told why he passed) Ha, I knew that all along. I was just playing with you. (Leaves through the right path)
Man, the Goku's and Luffy's examples are really precise. You surely knows well both characters.
Jonathan joestar would be hilarious to watch in the exam. Just the monologues alone would make it worth watching.
I love these videos. As an amateur writer it really makes me appreciate all the details of the characters I love and helps me understand their similarities and differences.
i love how your videos are very creative and are not just stating the ap feats and speed feats and that's it
amazing content man keep it going
Appreciate it!
Yuuji would also pass, but it's too funny to imagine-
Old Woman: "Do you save your father or your mother?"
Yuuji: "But I don't have either?"
Seriously though, of the four protags who'd probably not figure out the trick (hell, out of all of them), Yuuji is the most likely to take his time and THINK about the question, just like Gon did.
Two thoughts, obviously both opinions
1.) This one is for many folks here.
Goku in the thumbnail fr looking like you seeing this shit deku
I'd love to see this type of video with more characters! Good stuff 👌
Thanks for the feedback! Definitely might do a video like that
@TheSaladBar goku would pass as he literally doesn't know what either of things are as a kid, he would ask, "whats a mother, whats a true love, are they some kind of food?
Fun fact: Joseph actually had hermit purple but doesn’t realize it. If you slow down the opening you can see hermit purple. Hermit purple allowed Joseph to read people’s mind so that’s why Joseph knew what everyone was going to say.

Would love to see how the rival/beat friend does in the exam
If he does, he better do my main man Kuwabara justice, ESPECIALLY since he has WAAAAY better spiritual awareness. I think he was the top dog in spiritual awareness.

Luffy would just ask more questions about the situation until they just decide to kick him out anyway
Goku would probably have the same reaction as Gon to the pre exam question. Confused af lol
6:51 youe in for a surprise
This is the first realistic comparison of characters in anime I’ve ever seen, congrats.
Megumi said Yuji could run the ones with all of Tokyo and win before any of his crazy power ups.
i love seeing new great anime creators with new fresh ideas
About last part.
Luffy/Itadory will probably say that they will save both. And will be getting angry at grandma when she will try to say choose only one.
Idk about Yusuke but Goku will just say "I have mom?" or "What is Mom/True love" And can he eat it.
I belive Luffy and itadory will pss due to their Sheer will power to left no one behind.
And goku will fail, because he is just a child that known no harm or evil, and thus cannot be accepted into cruel world of hunters. Or they pass him because he doesnt know anything.
Considering Gon passed despite also being a (relatively) innocent child, Goku's purity wouldn't be a hindrance in that part of the exam.

joseph could be completely and utterly outclassed in a competition like this, but still end up passing by a crazy stroke of luck. best mc ever 😭💯
Medaka (Medaka Box) One of the strongest female protagonist of Shonen Jump,
Asta (Black Clover) like most begining story, his sword skills would still be rough, and mostly his sword can cut any "Magic", meaning "Nen" skill could be nullified.
About the question
1-Joseph would probably confused the person that ask the question to the point they have tolet him continue
2-kid goku will be more confused about what exactly family and lover is
3-Itadori will sit down for hours truing to give an answer
Deku could not pass the running part even with his quirk. You're underestimating the exam
Why not? Deku has pretty good stamina
@@nehemiah7012 bro you're underestimating that tunnel length.
Yeah even quirk Izuku would 100% die.
Real question.. how many would be victim of Tonpa the rookie crusher?
HAHHAHAHA. Just seeing Kid goku on the thumbnail, my immediate reaction was "Well Duh he passes of course" and then bro spends pretty much only as minute to say "He effortlessly passes all phases" and moves to the next characer. Love it
I think Midoriya would be naive enough to drink Tonya’s laxative laced juice.
Dawg Deku's fighting ability and general prowess has got to be a quiek fr. His mental capacity is incredible.

"He's my second favorite behind Johnny."
Ah, a man of culture I see
I think Luffy would answer “both” to the granny.
This doesn't make any sense. None of these characters besides Goku is capable of running an 80 KM marathon.
Yuji Itadori can definitely do that. even with out sukuna he was bred to be a physical monster
I'm sorry, but luffy without fruit isn't making it pass the hunters exam
Argument in favor:
His strength is upgraded due the DF
He can't swim
The fruit is Looney Toons powers, so anything that should kill you will kill Luffy
Counter argument:
Luffy can break steal and destroy buildings with his own hands without any build up. "I'm stuck on the tower" just creates his own path.
Luffy isn't slow nor has bad stamina, he can run islands in minutes
Luffy's sense of direction isn't awful like Zoro's, he knows where to go, so he always ends up where he's needed (The times were he doesn't is because he gets captured pr restraint by someone or something)
What about learning Nen?
Probably won't learn it because he is an asswhole to everyone who he isn't interested nor has the patience to do it how Kon did it.
Final opinion:
Removing his DF is always a stupid choice in this type of videos because you don't know where draw the line of "Is normal Luffy? Is he using his DF? He can survive due his DF of because he's strong?"
There is no real precedent for how strong he'd be without a fruit since he ate it as a young child
@@Ro321chile guy learned advanced haki while imprisoned, in poor conditions and in like two weeks. Hes stupid, but being dumb never restricted anyone to learn nen.
Whe probably would jump start it just like Gon. Being hit by a nen attack. And he already survived much more dangerous stuff, he for sure would survive nen awakening.
Luffy and Ace were raised and trained by their grandpa, the hero of the marines they were monsters at a young age. Luffy already had immense raw strength I’d even argue that the rubber fruit probably made him weaker since it made his body more flimsy and rubbery like that’s why it was so hard for him to fight as a kid in the beginning
@@Rasln15 he's shown to learn and mimic skills at a rate unheard of in his own universe. He mastered "shave" aka gear second in just one fight with cp9. Even taking their own technique and improving on it. He's one of those idiot savants. Socially inept and silly but can learn near instantly if he's actually focused and interested.
6:34 oh well... you've already made the video, you'll just have to wait and see for yourself now
do what if goku actually wasnt as dumb as a rock
Wrong channel
@@TheSaladBar what if goku joined the cartel can you do pls
@@Tumblebrineoh nah 💀
@@Tumblebrine nah, he first needs to make goku giving Barth or evaiding taxes
could be cool if you it as a what if mini, heck if goku was as smart as gohan he'd probably be like the strongest mortal to ever live even surpassing black frieza ( he uses the time chamber even at the start of dbz, learns every single martial art and fighting style, become a master at tactics, and also just trains goten and pan to their max potential)@@TheSaladBar
THANK YOU JOSEPH IS SO UNDERRATED. that is all
Where the hell was Tanjiro?
I wondered that too
Going in before watching the video, I'd think the marathon would be the biggest hurdle.
5:24 who is the quirkless character that has good feats?
Pretty sure it's Mirio
6:43 I know you are saying you haven't watched the Chapter Black arc yet but are you teasing us that you know how that arc ends? Did J-Stars spoil it for you?
all of them because of the plot, unless the plot wants them to fail
Deku can lift a small truck on his own from the junk scene. He’s incredibly strong without One For All if we go off that.
