Just wondering how the SMB share (playing games over network on the slim) compare to the internal HDD on the fat PS2. edit: found some interesting info for anyone interested. *HDD ATA interface: ATA-66 (Roughly 66MB/s). *Ethernet interface: 100Mbit (Or 12.5MB/s). *USB 1.1 interface: 12Mbit (~1.5 MB/s). *CD/DVD drive: 24x speed CD-ROM [3.6 MB/s], 4x speed DVD-ROM [5.28 MB/s]. The ethernet at 12.5MB/s is still considerably a lot slower than the PS2's internal HDD's 66MB/s, but faster than USB 1.1 and even the DVD. That's if games actually do load at 12.5MB/s. 🤔
It's not 12 mbps. It's faster than USB a Lot faster but nothing like I've seen in the videos of HDD I'm so jealous hahaha Another downside is that I've found certain games that don't work on SMB. (For example many Splinter cell games don't work in SMB idk why)

There is interesting Chinese network style adaptor I came across a year or 2 back on aliexpress. It works like the standard cheapo adapter but it also has a USB slot built into the back. So not only can ypu run games off hard drive but you can put USB sticks into the back as well. And it's USB 2.0 as well so ypu shouldn't experience the issues ypu would with the built in USB ports on ps2. The adapter is a lit more expensive than the standard cheapo version though. Another benefit of booting games from a hard drive is you can also use some of its space for game saves as well. So no need for a memory card anymore. For ps2 slim you can use the ethernet connection and boot games from your pc over local network. Iv never used that method myself though but I imagine it would allow for faster transfer speeds than the built in USB port. Mr. Mario on this here youtube has an excellent tutorial on how to set up all aspects of free mcboot. Tech James has some useful tutorials also. I found both of those invaluable for modding my ps2

It's faster than USB a Lot faster but nothing like I've seen in the videos of HDD I'm so jealous hahaha
Another downside is that I've found certain games that don't work on SMB. (For example many Splinter cell games don't work in SMB idk why)
I've found a Network Adapter for very cheap in a pawn shop. Nowdays, i moved out in France but i brought my PS2 with it, along with the Network Adapter, an Hard Drive and most of my games stored on it.
You can use opl to play games off a network drive and that's much faster than the old USB ports
There's a raspberry pi image that will let you boot games from the network on ps2 slim. This works much better and fixes the loading issues!
You can configure your ps2 to do the same via opl
I use a mini router with USB 2.0 that has SMB sharing. The Raspberry Pi is more expensive.
Can you use the fmcb memory card to play disc backups without having an external hard drive on the slim?
I'm not interested in storing games or using emulation, I have a xbox for that.
I just want to use game disc backups.
Feed back is appreciated
Yes It can used with disc backups
We have a modded PS2 slim (later model) and I want to access GMS somehow. Do I need a DVD burned?
Are these mcboot cards plug and play or do I need a pc to use it? I don’t really understand the other tutorials on TH-cam because they all seem to be “how to install free mcboot to a card” but not “how to use mcboot card”. I don’t have one so maybe it is plug and play for ps2 games.
For an added layer of drive options with the network card adapter, getting an ide or sata to SD or microSD card adapter?
I should do something like this since my beloved ps2 died [the optical lens stopped working, and trying to clean it i even damaged the tray]
6:45 I tried to play doa2 aswell my left analog wouldnt work but it worked fine for other games but not fighting games
Can I ask if the FMCB v1.966 version in the video can download 4gb or larger game iso files? Because I have a fat32 format ps2 gaming hard drive, or do I have to split the iso file into multiple files to run the game?
I have one of these, using a Hard Drive is better than using a thumb drive. With a thumb drive, FMV can be a bit choppy.
Both can be choppy!
It depends on:
-OPL version
-game
-PS2-Version (DECKARD-PS2s are often/usually a bit faster!)
@@tnaplastic2182 I have smb and planning to move to hdd at some point but usb can be fun to mess around with, seeing how many games you can fit into a small flash drive and seeing which one has stuttering and which ones don't :b

@@elitheothercomputerguy5436
Their IOP (secondary CPU, usually used for I/O) is emulated on an LSI-Logic PPU (called "DECKARD"), which is an inside-joke referring to a fan-theory regarding the character "Rick Deckard" (Harrison Ford) [who hunts and kills replicants] in "Blade Runner", which indicate/point to Deckard being a replicant himself! LOL! :'-D )
So... That emulation seems to be faster in some instances and slower in others.
So if I get this and put it in a ps2 slim it will allow me to play a ps1 game via component to hdmi on a new hdtv? Cause I tried putting in a ps1 game in today via component and it went to no signal but plays all my ps2 games fine .
All videos make me smile. Your so funny. "but first a litle bit of ASRM"
I bought one of those ready to use, but I only see the regular menu that says Browser and System Configuration, nothing changes
You got ps2 fat 900xx ? Then it will not work
Brook ps3/Ps4 to PS2 adapter is really great.
It cost $40 but it works perfectly and let's you use ps3 or ps4 controllers wireless on ps2.
Just be sure to connect the adapter to pc to update the adapters firmware.
The adapter can be found on Amazon.
Hello,
First of all I have slim version and all I need is a memory card from the link and some external HDD, is that correct?
Thanks for reply
6:07 "convert in special program" what?
I heard you can use HD Loader to create an image when the disc in inside the PS2 directly to the hard drive
the ps2 games that you are testing has a good resolution. what kind of minitor are you using? or are you using and upscaler
For the people that dont know this, but not all slim and fat models work with the freemcboot card. Sony patched this in the bios on some models
about 5%, since many (at least in the european market) never really went online
1) All Fat models work with FMCB. It's some of the later Slim models that have been patched (I think the the last slim model compatible with FMCB out of the box was the 75000x).
2) There are alternative solutions that can be used to soft mod the later models (Fortuna, FunTuna, etc.).

Hey luv your videos question would this work on the original Japan consoles?
It should work with all fat ps2's so it should work for an original , if by original you mean the first model
How does all this work with normal save files? Anything different? Save states? Or just like normal with the memory card in the other slot for saves?
Thanks for asking. I was wondering the same thing.
@@hungrybartender6388 yep. But doesn’t seem like he’s going to do anything with it.
So I just bought a Japanese PS2. Will I need this to play the American games? And will I need to keep this in to play them forever?
Yeah I highly recommend the Original PS2 over the Slim any day just because of the Hard drive bay at the back, a internal HDD will always be better than using a external HDD on the PS2, you have to remember this is a video game console released in the year 2000, the UsB ports are only 1.0
👍
🤔 i actually wonder if it could make use of a SSD... sure it lacks stuff like TRIM, but once fully loaded it shouldn't be an issue.
if your talking about the network adapter for the back then no, it only fits IDE drives
@@kyles8524 - There are SATA conversion boards to replace the IDE interface & power boards. This option allows you to keep the ethernet capability for network options. The aftermarket network adapters with SATA have no network functionality. I paid between $12 - $15 for my conversion boards on Ebay.
Yes, it can! SSDs work fine and depending on the software they are even a lot faster or sometimes "the same".
@@tnaplastic2182 Thx for confirming. Time to dust off the Fat Lady and do a last upgrade; especially with non-moving parts it will make a difference.

Keep in mind that some adapters don't provide the 3.3Volt-line and some drives depend on it! Those will not work on the adapters which are lacking that 3.3Volt-line!
Stupid question but if I just bought the mcboot and a PS2 could I just use it to remove the region lock and that's it? I wanna place some us games on a pal console
For me it's only been working when I used OPL.
Then I can boot up any game I want.
Still you need to convert it to an ISO file.
Has anyone figured out a way to create a virtual memory card on the HDD to save your PS2 games.
No need. You can get 128mb memory cards for two bucks each from AliExpress. I bought 6 of them, no more needs for memory space.
Inside the OPL games list, just scroll over the game you want to and get in the options list (triangle or square id remember) go to the option create VMC and it will create it depending on witch mode you are playing.
I bought the 64mb variation after putting it in it did not launch FMCB by itself. I clicked on browse and looked what was on the memory card. after that I press O to exit and the menu opened. I turned it off and got my USB out to put games on it. I put Need for speed most wanted on it and put the USB back in powerd the PlayStation again. and now I doesn't open de FMCB menu anymore.
Could you help me?
you've used the IDE hard disk or the USB hard disk? just asking
idk if you still read comments here. First of all thx for the whole tutorial. I wanted to know how you have the whole PS2 connected to get that quality of image, are you using the Component cables with the HD adapter?
Just watched this video for someone like me that's not tech savvy how much would you charge to put all games on and everything on a 2tb USB stick coz I'm only really after persona 3 FES and persona 4 but would be happy with other games too
DOA2 and SSX lots of childhood memories there :)

I have a problem had my fat PS2 stored away for about a year when I went to use it again with mcboot 1.8 mem card and boot a game that requires dualshock 2 feature it doesn't want to recognize the 3 of my controllers and it use to work fine.
can't wait for the next video!
Can you show loading times using a USB drive? Also,I think it's worth noting that they sell the SATA adapters to replace the IDE connection on the official ethernet adapter so that you can still go online. The aftermarket SATA Ethernet adapters they sell don't let you go online.
Why would you go online ? There no games to play like that.
Also there are plenty of videos comparing it if you don't find them try searching in Spanish

I should google :) , but when getting the mods for the fat model so you can have games on a sata drive, what are the options for transferring games to the harddisk? First probably format the HD a certain way (fat32?), then before installing into the ps2, hook it up as an external drive to your pc so you can drag & drop iso's? Can you use a FTP program to connect the ps2 with your pc? Are there options on the free mc boot card to rip games from the dvd drive onto the installed harddrive?

Can you install an internal hard drive on the Slim? I’ve read that the USB ports are slow, so that both network and internal hdd’s are the best way to go for storing game disc images.
I know people go mod crazy and rip out the disc drive.
Problem is .. you can't play original games and it's not a plug and play MOD.
Chinees did not make anything for that at this moment 😶
@@WickedGamerCollector @Wicked Gamer & Collector That is exactly what I was thinking, replace the DVD drive with a hard drive.

Thanks for the create info.Maybe someone will create a USB 3 mod one day, and we can just plug in external hard drives, no hassle. :)
FMB mem cards can be created using 1st party mem cards. There's an option to create them, as long as you have one already.... Buy one, make as many as you need. The FMB mem cards can still be used to save games, too.
That thing has a name, but I can't find it right now.
It also does NOT work like any other adapter, because it needs some special software!
There is no need for a PC either, but only an SMB-Share-providing device!
@@TexasHollowEarth There is no "FMB" but only "FMCB", "FHDB" or "FDVDB" or all of them combined "FDB" ("Free ~device~ Boot).
No... You do NOT need to have an FMCB-MC already, to create another one... There are MULTIPLE other ways.
