Thank you for this. You've really helped me with my setup. This is the best review I've found that's answered all of my questions with my pocket 4k and LH5P setup
Great vid brotha man! Ive got the BM5iii and I love it. Portkeys has really stepped their game up recently. Love seeing the channel grow man! Hope the move is going smooth for ya!
How loud is the fan on this monitor and how much power does it take? Just returned my ninja v because it was extremely loud and took way too much power. Great video thanks 😊
Hi there! I'd like to know if its HDMI out offers a Clen image... indeed, I'm looking for a monitor that gets all the informatiions from the camera but don't send them on the HDMI out so that I may use it for a livestream on youtube... thanks bro!
Thank you form the great review, what would be the best way to power the monitor? I heard about HDMI outs being fried on the pocket cams. I see you are using a battery on the monitors back. Is that better than from a V mount? What makes the hdmi output burn? I just ordered this monitor and I have the 6K pocket
Great question. I believe that HDMI ports are getting burnt bc the monitor isn’t powered on BEFORE plugging in the HDMI. I didn’t have that issue with this LH5P But I did have an LH5H (the previous model) burn an HDMI port right out of the box.
Great reveiw thinking of returning my Ninja V and just getting this for my Z cam S6, one question i had though, in every shot of the monitor UI, there are borders with various tools and settings insdie of the green and red bars on the side... is there a way i can tap the screen or something and just get a clean full size veiw of my shot without any borders and settings on the screen? Thanks!
Very nice video Joe, the monitor looks very very nice, I had a bad experience with a previous Portkeys monitor but this one looks like it would be the one, definitely the camera controls are one of the highlights, something other camera brands such as Atomos are lacking.
Holy crap. That sucks. No joke, when I said in the video that when I realized how poorly built the LH5H was....I sent it back. I dont think you'll have that problem with the LH5P.
Hi Joe, I'm wondering to use Tilta Nucleus Nano for controlling Zoom (not focus pulling) with this LH5P. Let's say I attach my Nano on my lens zoom ring, then I set poin A-B for 5 seconds on the LH5P, can we achieve smooth-stable-consistent zoom movement?
do you have gear suggestions for a beginner who wants to get into motorcycle POV filming but who wants to achieve a significantly higher quality than something like a gopro action camera can achieve? thank you
They have great HH7 (or HS7T with SDI) for fairly cheap But they are focused on 5inch monitors to bring new features to them, so they cant fix some nasty bugs on HH7/HS7T for over 2 year!!!
Ah yes... the driven films way of integrating everything in some way or form to be used on a bmpcc 4k. I also got to hand it to your community. They have been helpful with resolve!
great video!! i just paired my bmpcc 4k with the BM5WR just now,. i'm able to control it from the monitor but the monitor isn't showing what's on my camera, the screen is the default screen. do i need to connect something else via cable? i thought that the blue tooth connection will also connect the video? thanks!
Great vid, cool looking monitor. Can anyone tell me if this monitor offers a way to horizontally flip the image? I would like to connect this to the output from my tablet used in my teleprompter as a secondary monitor for prompter operator to the side. Obviously, the image coming from tablet is flipped in prompter software for use in mirror for talent to read. Specs say "Image Flip", which could just mean vertical flip for upside-down, which wouldn't help, or a rotate function not needed, thx.
Oh hello neighbor! You’re right around the corner from me. Anyway, yes I believe it has a flip option. I don’t have the monitor anymore though so I can’t test it
@@joenicklo I connect the Type-C wire, put the remote control in the camera settings, but there are no functions. th-cam.com/video/NOIrjK5wKD8/w-d-xo.html - Here in the video shows, but I do not. I don't understand what settings are needed more (((
I am not a fan of this monitor. I got it to control by bmpcc and because of its brightness which is pretty fantastic. Two (maybe three) things I don’t like: 1) the touch controls are crazy unintuitive. The touch sensor is not very good coming from an iphone and of course the pocket cam. I pretty much only use the touch controls by accident because they are just bad. 2) The bottom mounting screw receiver is NOT built in to the chassis. It is a reducing bushing but it’s not 3/8 to 1/4…it’s somewhere closer to 5/16 which is a thinner wall and therefore weaker. I had to mount to a magic arm with no locating pins and to get it tight enough that it wouldn’t unscrew when I operated it, it destroyed the weak and thin adapter. I can’t find a replacement in that odd size so I guess I’ll have to duct tape it to my cam. 3) This one isn’t major but the carrying case is very snug. I would have loved if they’d have included a little cutout so you could leave a cold shoe mount attached while in the case. This would really help with the issue about the weak 1/4 mount adapter.
Great points. I think it comes down to getting what you pay for. While the camera control on this monitor is helpful, once you've used a monitor like SmallHD...it's hard to go back to.
@@joenicklo Thank you for the reply. I will look into the small hd. Portkeys just got back to me about the adapter. It’s basically the smallrig kit adapter from 3/8 to 1/4 that is about $5 delivered for a multi pack except portkeys chose to use a lower quality adapter with a non-standard size. They just messaged me that it would cost $30.00 to get ONE! Not meaning to hijack your video in any way but this has completely ended Portkeys for me. I’ll put up my own review on this.

Glad you like them!
Happy to see them update and fix build quality
Thank fbrother great review ✌🏼
Dude, this is the best review of this monitor!! Very extensive and clean-cut! Helps to receive the information without much distraction!
Glad I could help!

They definitely have. I'd like to see a cleaner UI design in the future but other than that, portkeys has like you said, stepped it up.
Great review Joe! Maybe one day we will have something like it for the Fuji users out there. And three cheers to the Discord!
JOE! I’ve missed you! Great vid brother
Hey thanks buddy! Videos for the next few months will be sporadic but I'll be trying my best!
Great video man! Loved the B Roll + how quickly you jumped into it. Will be curious to hear how that impacts your retention! Keep it up!
Thanks for checking it out :)

Wasn’t very loud if I recall
Gimme that monitor Joe!
This looks like a solid monitor. might need to grab one for the second camera I will inevitably get! Thanks Joe!
Give it a shot Dan! Thanks for watching.
This would be a nice pairing with BMPCC4K! Portkeys made a monitor that looks modern.
Agreed, thanks for watching.
LOL 6:38 made the whole video for me. Great review!
;) It shows eh?
@@joenicklo honestly it doesn't but it's good to be able to laugh at yourself sometimes

No it has a fan that you can adjust the speed.
Great review. All the information you need without the fluff. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
@@joenicklo Definitely was. Also, glad you drive right in and don’t spend 2-3 minutes talking about what you are going to review before you review it.

Do you have a rec for a sun hood? And what case is that you’ve got there? Thanks man!!
The case comes with the monitor. Pretty nice addition. For a sunhood, you'll need to go with a cage+hood combo. I suggest the Nitze --> geni.us/mU8J

Solid monitor
Another Superb review!

has there been any UI fixes since you released this video
I do not think so. I actually ended up doing a giveaway for this monitor in my Discord community so I no longer have it.
The LH5P looks like a solid monitor for the price. How is battery life with a Sony NP-F970 battery?
Solid review, keep it up!
Honestly I didnt test battery life
Can you tell me which mount you are using with this monitor and WHERE'S THE YANKEES CAP? 😀Thanks bro🙏🏾
The hats are going to make a strong comeback! The monitor mount is the Smallrig arri locating pin “tilt & swivel”

The Ninja V has control capability for the Z Cam but I've yet to try it.
I may look into this. I just used my lh5h this weekend at an event and somehow this thing came unhinged from the 1/4 20.
