Yep, it's was the first time in a game that the weather effect was so realistic that it was hindering gameplay. In heavy rain at night I simply could drive with the cockpit camera, you can't see absolutely anything. But it was glorious. Also It's the only game that I see that did 2D simulation of the water on the car windows, they moved correctly based on the g force applied to the car. There is also a tom of little detail that are simulated that no other game bother to do.
Driveclub, in my opinion, embodies what the original Need for Speed games used to be before Hot Pursuit and Underground. Racing exotic cars through breathtaking scenery. The rain effects are insanely cool and the fact that it was done on a PS4 is even more impressive.
Looks like I'm not the only one who gets the same sentiment with driveclub and especially more obvious when you play nfs hp "10 or all the stuff before underground and get back to driveclub with a hint of project gotham sprinkled aswell.
How you feel about Driveclub is how I feel about Hot Pursuit 2010. Nothing beats selecting a car and hearing the engine startup, listening to its bio, selecting a manufacturer colour and cruising around one of the most picturesque open worlds in a racing game.
Imagine if EA got the developers of Driveclub to create a Hot Pursuit game that was basically Driveclub with cops, complete with updates that added new cars, tracks and even a track editor like what Forza Horizon 5 currently has. It would have been the perfect way to appeal to the Hot Pursuit/Rivals fans while Criterion Games made games to appeal to the Most Wanted/Carbon fans and maybe even get Codemasters to make a simcade NFS that appeals to the Prostreet/Shift crowd. Sadly EA will never put that much money and effort into the Need for Speed franchise but it's fun to think about.
Plus also the extremely satisfying feeling while "Sokyuu No Fanfare" song kicks in whilst being chased by a cop in a McLaren F1 on NFS HOT PURSUIT 2010.

I played a lot and it is hard to tell exactly. It was just great looking, intense and fun to play. And driving model was good balance and what I needed back then. One of my favorite racing games ever really underrated
Man i keep coming back to watch more Driveclub, it was ahead of it's time in graphics and attention to little details that most won't even notice.
If Sony kept Evolution studios and didn't close it, we would've gotten probably Driveclub 2 and MotorStorm sequels. Sad how much potential was destroyed.
I can't believe the age of this came with those graphics. Makes me want to have it again on PC but unfortunately thats not an option
doing driveclub video and not showing the rain is criminal
R.I.P Driveclub.
Best racing game on PlayStation
What a beautiful simplistic game i loved this game back in the day and the graphics dont even get me started in the graphics they are just incredible too this day
Such an amazing game, i remember completing all the base game and all the DLC, my most enjoyable platinum trophy, and also the VR version.
WOW, that's more than a creative racing game of 10 Years of Driveclub
This game was fantastic, it was hit with a technical issue launch, but the support they gave this game was amazing. The managed to turn the game round, but the haters wouldn't let their launch be forgotten. The studio was closed down a year before they released the VR version, which was already complete before they were closed. I loved this game.... The sound of the engines has only now been matched with the Crew Motorfest ... BUT no game since, to this day, has even got got close to the weather system. The water running sideways when going around bends. It was amazing..... I platinum this game, and 100% everything. And Still drive in it to this Day !!!! The developers were amazing and Sony didn't realise what they had. !!!
I still play it to this day. The best racing game outside of sims I've played.
Nothing even comes close.
it's been a decade already? Happy 10th anniversary Driveclub! 🎉
I Remember drive club being the graphics benchmark. The Rain visuals are still Amazing.
10 years in the joint made this game a fucking masterpiece
Best driving game I ever played. Would like to have better damage effects . But it is an amazing game
The rain effect in this game cannot be praised enough
Mate, you want to talk about a game that actually deserves a remaster, this is still the greatest racer of all time for me.
I'm genuinely curious. For people who have played this game. What did driveclub achieve that no other racing games didn't at it's time period?
Intensity.. detailed cockpit animations, accurate material representation, atmosphere... pushing the technology and optimization on 1.84tflop PS4 + much more 😀
@@ggmgoodgamingmichael7706 Oh so it's graphics was the one that made it completely unique? Wouldn't something like Gran Turismo or FH1 have something similar? didn't we have something like incredible graphics already? How about gameplay of Driveclub? is it any different than the two? other than one is a enclosed track and the other is open world?
I played a lot and it is hard to tell exactly.
It was just great looking, intense and fun to play. And driving model was good balance and what I needed back then. Because all you had was drifting hovercrafts from NFS or as fun as daily commute sleep inducing cardboard boxes from GT6. It also seemed bad at first, but no tuning turned out great. Pick you car, track, weather conditions and go have fun. Don't bother with performance points limits, Clios overtaking Lambos, ridiculous vinyls on bots or Forza's everythig AWD meta.
@@Sicarius888 I see. Plain simple and fun. almost comparable to the likes of L4D2. Straight gaming without worrying about technical things like Tire pressure etc. So it's just about the physics that made it unique? Don't GRID 2 have something similar to it's intense racing feel?
@@Yasufumiyo I don't remember exact details after these years, but I think Grid 1 was the closest with its simple, fun and intense gameplay.
I've been wanting a 60fps version for sooooo many years. One of my favourite games of all time
I freakin love this game. I keep playing it since 2014 from time to time. Best sounding ever & immersive graphics still to this day.
We will never see an immersive & good looking semi-arcade game like this again. A LONG GOODBYE...
