Great job on the headlights! I did something similar back in the day on my 95 escort GT haha. Could my channel get a shoutout, Sarah? Thanks!

Your sense of humor and overall content is going to carry you far on TH-cam Sarah. What a good idea and it makes perfect sense to warm the plastic to reduce the chances of it cracking, nice one.

Tedious and scary. Plastic can be a nightmare to work on and I am so proud of the job you did! You have to be B&D when you work on delicates like these were. So fabulous. OCD and proud of it! You go gal!

I used a big cardboard box, cut a hole in it, and stuck a 1500 watt heat gun in there, being careful not to point the gun right at the headlight plastic. I had an extra bit of cardboard in there to deflect the hot air around. Yeah, maybe not the smartest way to do it, but it worked. I just had to watch it closely to be sure I didn't overheat them. But, I converted my plain old halogens on my 2007 Audi a4 to projector HIDs, using a cheapo ebay kit. I found some retrofit projector lens assemblies for under $100. Even used, Audi HID headlights with the parts tend to go for like $800, so I was willing to attempt it myself. The stock halogens are crap.
    Great tutorial, Sarah!

I'm actually going to be doing something like this very soon... I'm going to bake my headlight then pull the cover off. then put Easy-Off on the chromed inner piece and then scrub the chromed off with a Scotch-Brite pad so that it's a black housing...then switch to LED from incandescent bulbs.... Nice work Sarah! that came out pretty awesome!...

Hey, Sarah, thanks for the video. I've been considering this process on my 06 CTS Sport for some time now. The HID lamps have found up the
inside of the lenses. I do need to install all new bulbs, hopefully without electrocuting myself, but if I brake any part seriously, a pair of new light modules cost around $700.00! No can do. A Pretty frightening possibility.

Those mechanic gloves are my favorite, however when baking or BBQing use heat resistant gloves so that you can grab your hot headlight straight out of the oven and you'll be able to work a longer time before your headlight cools and to protect your hands.

Wow you and ETCG both posting headlight videos the same day. He tested halogen vs HID vs LED and the HID was far and away the clear winner. And good news, with B5 headlights you don't need to do a retrofit! They have Valeo H7 projectors which work great with D2S xenon bulbs with just the addition of a thin aluminum adapter ring on the bulb base. Put some good Philips 4300K bulbs in there and they'll blow those LED's out of the water.

I remember quite a while back when HID/projectors became affordable and people refitting their cars had learned the method of removing the headlight lense from youtube. *The Problem* was this was not in the U.S. and few realized in the degrees were in Fahrenheits, and chucked their headlights into 200°C ovens. That's a bit under 400°F. For ten minutes.
