      Thanks for the reminder Jason! I got your message yesterday and downloaded the new version but did not install it yet. Work in progress ;)

    Hi there. A tip for you:
    Update the WiFi / Bluetooth drivers ASAP! Download them from Intel's website. The Windows default drivers really sucks.

      Hi Bruno! Thanks for the tip. I have updated the drivers for Bluetooth and WIFI but did not notice anything. It is still not that great when I use Shadow for gaming. I guess I will stick to my LAN cable unless I upgrade my box.

    PO Bas, thank you for this very well unboxing. I'm interested in this PN50 but I've already read several comments from users who complain about the high-pitched noise of the cpu fan, can you confirm or deny? Thank you!

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bonjour Patrick ! Unfortunately, I can only confirm the fan can get quite audible when the PN50 is used for gaming or for other activities when the CPU/GPU are used. For example when you browse and reach a website with a lot of content on it (like videos or some animations).
      That's probably the main drawback of having a barebone.
      Unless you use only some office applications, you will hear it.
      Nevertheless, it is a quite nice tiny machine which can easily replace a desktop computer for a daily use.

      @@cernus2279 What if you disconnect the fan, does the APU get too hot? What if you replace the fan with a heat sink, or just leave the box open?

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ssmpm Yes it does. I have not tested without a fan but I guess the CPU must have a fan + heat sink otherwise it will get too warm very quickly. There might be some room for some tuning here with a different fan and/of different heat sink but I will leave it as it is. You do not have much room inside and this would probably require to change the case and at the end, I think it is easier to just change the computer :)

    How would you install drivers on a CD on a PC that doesn't have one?

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess they assume you have an external drive for that. Anyway, the best is once you have your system ready and connected to the internet, to download the latest drivers from the ASUS website. Honestly I have not used any CD for the last years :)

    When might we see this with the new Ryzen 7 5800U?

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 5800U has just been released a week or two ago. I think it will take some time before being integrated by the manufacturers. But I hope to be wrong :)
      The performances are interesting compared to the Apple M1. Still 15W TDP but lower frequency, 7nm vs 5nm. Intel vs AMD vs Apple. That's pretty good for us.

    Doesn't it have any cpu cooler inside??

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does, there is one fan to do cool down the whole thing but it tends to be noisy. I got rid of the PN50 few months ago. For office work it is pretty cool, you can use it for some gaming as well but the noise makes it annoying.

    Some ryzen CPU:s support single bit ECC, do you know if this one supports single bit ECC so-dimms?

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To my knowledge it does not because I did not find any reference of it in the provided documentation and on the ASUS website.
      Site: www.asus.com/Mini-PCs/Mini-PC-PN50/#PN50-a05
      I also went on the CRUCIAL website to see what they propose for this barebone (they usually are well informed... right?) and they propose only non-ECC memory.

    I Have PN50 4500U But Video RAM 512M BIOS Not adjust ........

    • @cernus2279
      @cernus2279  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did not check this yet but 512 seems to be a bit small but it seems it can take up to 8GB from the RAM.
      One thing I noticed is the lack of TPM module which is used when you perform encrypt your drive (but can be bypassed). I have contacted ASUS twice and it seems they do not even know what they make and sell on the market...

    • @michang75
      @michang75 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aida64 View only 512MB ,I reflected that the answer received by Taiwan ASUS customer service was that there is no plan to open BIOS to adjust VIDEO RAM

      My Micron P5 has this installed, and the temperature has dropped by 10 degrees. I suggest you buy one too!

      @@michang75 Are you able to use the encryption? The P5 has a native encryption if I remember. A bit slower than the Samsung but the MTBF is higher. I had to chose one and went for the Samsung... but I have issues to activate the encryption because the PN50 does not seem to have a legacy mode in the bios.

    • @michang75
      @michang75 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cernus2279 I am not using encryption mode. PN50 does not have a legacy mode.
      Samsung SSDs are expensive in Taiwan.
      I recommend WD SN750 which has a good cost-performance ratio
