- i've decided to return for a while to my habit of reading multiple books at one time. Each belongs to a different category or genre and all seem essential to have all at the same time... especially in the middle of summer...

I must says Socks looked extremely handsome throughout this video.
I always read several books at the same time 'lining them up' and see which would reach the 'finish line' first. I also love the audio books that keep me going when I take a stroll either for real or on the treadmill or drive to and from work.

Your reading heap is very similar to mine. I have 2 novels, 2 books of short stories (one about ghosts and the other about dogs), a poetry book, a magazine, a memoir, a book about illustrators, a book of essays written by the Blaue Reiter artists, a kid's book by Enid Blyton, an ancient history book, a book on ecology and 2 natural history books. The choice just helps keep my little grey cells jogging along. Then I listen to Audible while working. My current listening is a novel, a book about Matisse, a natural history book, one on ecology, one on philosophy and one on writing creative non-fiction. Aren't we lucky to have access to so many books? I love it! 😆
I’m happy to say that today I got a 1951 paperback of Love of Seven Dolls, a bit worn and had that certain smell about it. I LOVE old paperbacks!! I think Socks was scolding you after your lamp accidentally fell. That was funny and you have such a contagious laugh. I’m loving your channel, you’re so interesting and fun to listen to, and your collection of books is AMAZING!❤❤

Hi Paul. I tend to read one book at a time mostly. However I do have times where I am reading from lots of different things. That's how I read as a child. My room was always a chaotic mess of magazines, comics, short story collections, ladybird books, picture books, non fiction. But when I started reading novels that fell away. I do tend to have a dipping in and out book on the go though. At the moment it's The Doll by Daphne Du Maurier, which I'm enjoying.
This reminded me a lot of the Robin Ince show I went to see last year, where he picked up books from a pile on a table/the floor, and talked about them - the same enthusiasm for a wide range of genres!
Moods change so it’s good to have choices
Five seems about right to me. Presently I have on the go, 2 novels (different genres), a non fiction history book, and a short story collection. I've just finished something so consider myself to have a space.
I usually have a current stack , but I bought a trilogy by Atwood and could not stop reading those- sometimes you just want to be in one world for days . I enjoy rereading Sir Terry especially Monstrous Regiment. I also dip into poetry and diaries and short stories and comics 🐈⬛❤
