- This is a talk on the 'weirdness' of the Big things and the Small things. We are used to sizes or distances in our daily life. But often we overlook the presence of things that involve either very very big and or very very small dimensions. For example, the diameter of a galaxy is too big, or the size of an atom is too small for us to imagine because we are simply not used to such dimensions. But if you bother to know, those worlds would turn out to be very weird. The natural laws that govern things in the realm of the very big and the very small are much different from what we think they are. To name them, Theory of relativity and the Quantum physics are the scientific formulations that help us to know more about it. Here in this lecture, we discuss a brief outline of the weirdness we are talking about. It is emphasized that many of the things discussed are over-simplified to fit a layperson's understanding, because the real scientific treatment involves a truck-load of heavy mathematics.

വളരെ നന്നായി അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു വൈശാഖൻ. സാമാന്യമായി ഒരു ശാസ്ത്രബോധവും ജിജ്ഞാസയും ഉള്ളവർക്ക് മാത്രമേ ഇത് ഗ്രഹിക്കാൻ സാധിക്കുകയുള്ളൂ. അത്രയല്ലേ ഇങ്ങനെയൊരു പ്രഭാഷണം കൊണ്ട് കഴിയുകയുള്ളൂ. എനിക്ക് തോന്നുന്നത് ആളുകളെ സയൻസിന്റെ എബിസിഡി മുതൽ പഠിപ്പിച്ച് തുടങ്ങണം എന്നാണു. കാരണം സ്കൂൾ കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന സയൻസ് ഭൂരിപക്ഷം കുട്ടികളുടെയും ബോധതലങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുന്നില്ല. അത്കൊണ്ട് മുതിർന്നവർക്ക് സയൻസിൽ പുനർവിദ്യാഭ്യാസമാണു വേണ്ടത്. പരിഷത്ത് തുടക്കത്തിൽ അത് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. പരിഷത്ത് തുടങ്ങിയേടത്ത് നിന്ന് സമൂഹം വളരെ പിന്നിലേക്ക് പോയിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണു ഇപ്പോൾ. എന്തായാലും വളരെ നല്ല പ്രസന്റേഷൻ. എല്ലാ ഭാവുകങ്ങളും നേരുന്നു.

Your explanation of wave-particle duality is not correct. It is not that small particles like electrons have wave nature and large objects like bullet have a particle nature. The fact is an election can behave like a particle or a wave. In a double slit example, electrons behave like waves and produce an interference pattern. Even if the electrons are passed through the slit one after another, an interference pattern is shown. That means an electron is passing through both the slits at the same time. Now try to have a setup to observe the slit through which an electron emerges, then you will see electrons emerging from one or other of the slits. The interference pattern disappears, and you will get only two bright, well-defined bands. If unobserved, the electrons will become waves, and interference pattern emerges. If observed, the electrons behave as particles. Conscious observation changes the behaviour of the electrons and other similar small particles. This phenomenon is known as wave-particle duality.
Your explanation of the reason for uncertainty principle is equally erroneous. Position or momentum do not change because light photons are impinging on small particles. Uncertainty exists in the particle itself, even before the measurement is made.

A very informative session and amazing explanation expecting more from you sir, the 2nd question answer I think the expansion of the inverse is accelerating due to the dark energy where the scientists yet have not much idea about it, so dark energy can expand more than the speed of light. Similarly the spooky action takes place faster than the speed of light in QM too, so we can only say that any particle has a mass cannot travel faster than the speed of light as it approaches the speed of light the mass grows to infinity and hence cant reach the speed of light and thus prevented by the laws of nature.
We are looking at this world through our eyes - but actually we are looking only at the image presented to us of this world by our sense organs and then processed by the brain , that's the image we are looking at.

The best example of General Relativity on our daily life is the "correction factor " applied on Global Positioning System (GPS). Special Relativity also have some correction factor, but very very small as compared with General Relativity.
Also some people may heard about a hypothetical planet "Vulcan" which had introduced to explain the peculiarities of Mercury's orbit. But none of the experimental observation leads any evidence for this and finally we found who is responsible for this "The General Relativistic effect of sun" caused it !!!.
I really like the above example to say how a scientific method is. All scientific theory will give you a chance to test it with observational evidences, if it matches theory will retain else will discard on the very moment.

The big is small ... It comes down to Einsteins reference frames... Like on a train if you dropped a pebble off without air friction you'd see it almost go straight down (that's what we see) what is seen from a difference reference frame if you were on the embankment looking at the pebble it would be going down and with the train... And from the train you can't calculate the train movement but from the embankment you can... So the embankment is if you were say on the atom or small... So can't calculate everything... The reference frames hide the true motion or all motion even though you see something different and what you need to calculate with the small is the embankment motion...

Dear Nizam,
Its a contradiction that, you "still wonder about Vaishakhan's belief that everything evolved itself", But you have no issues to believe that God (Allah) is evolved itself. If you think there is definitely a creator required for all these complex phenomenon , then there should definitely be a creator required for God (Allah) also.
And if everyone was sitting back in the belief that all everything created by God (Allah), nothing would have reveled or invented. All the convenience, benefits and luxuries we are availing today is the contribution of science.
