Decent effort. The idea is not new, there are number of cities in the US offering free land which can be reference upon. Secondly, why $10, not $1 or free? There is no difference in between but have different vibe to the greater market.
I think if people are going to live in a community like this they need to have a business plan on what they can bring to the community. It doesn't sound like they can offer work, schools or health care services from what people are complaining about in the comments....so if you go there, hoping to have a family how is that family going to survive? I live in a big city. I do podcasts, and make video games...and work contract jobs in software testing BUT my industry requires stable electricity and internet. My city refuses me minimum wage work or any sort of manual labour job so I'd expect a smaller town would do the same....I couldn't live in a cold place without heating and proper water access. Not exactly interested in a septic tank system in the middle of winter... There's always a catch with these deals. Maybe if you're looking to retire as an individual off the grid it might be a decent deal. Building housing isn't cheap though. It looks like folks have already built stuff and is trying to flip it it for 400k. On a Septic tank in an area with no jobs that's an awful deal....they might want to rethink doing that. There is also a lot of folks trying to flip the lots for 100k. If they paid 10 bucks for them...you might consider giving them their 10 bucks back and tell them to get lost.
How many of these properties are now being scooped up by corporations and/or real estate investment firms .... or hedge funds (is that what they are called?)
Well im from Toronto and willing to move there depending on jobs and if I can actually qualify for land. Any idea on how I can learn more about how to apply?
As long as the developers are required to build a mix of homes that are suitable for ALL incomes, ALL age groups and ALL types of families (including singles) AND pass their immense savings on the cost of land to the buyers of these homes! As well as contribute to the cost of the infrastructure needed for all the homes they build!
I’ve never been to Cochran but what would you do for a living? Let’s not even mention the weather and summer insects. Since food has to transported from further south, what are grocery prices and selection like?

Short train ride or flight away there are gem mines that need workers. The companies pay the fees. 14 days in 14 days out. Plus more gem mines opening. That is the 1st step: to make land affordable to people and immigrants to build their house. Why Mr Trudeau doesn’t understand that??? The town should give an step further and say this: Hey, here is the looted land, here are the pre approved designs, if you are a working family, purchase the lot, grab a pre-approved design plan and build your house and be happy, free and prosper. Would they help a partly disabled person. Id be there in a second. I qualify for loans but all I got is the $10 for the property right now. ODSP is a hard live.
Jeesh I think Trudeau has met his match! I’ve never seen someone side step questions or word alphabet questions better than he until I watched this mayor 🥴
Ask the interviewer if she will live in Cochrane….. I don’t think so 😂
It won’t be the Canadians taking advantage of this. Sad
who will be then?
@@olene184immigrants and developers
Everyone but those that need it, as usual.
Decent effort. The idea is not new, there are number of cities in the US offering free land which can be reference upon. Secondly, why $10, not $1 or free? There is no difference in between but have different vibe to the greater market.
It’s a scam as if no way anyone would believe this nope a scam
One of thousands the seigneury have figured out over the years since 1532. Canada has zero real opportunity.
Hopefully they put a protection in place to protect themselves from foreign landgrabs
It’s actually what they want.
Is it not going to cost a couple hundred bucks in gas to get to Cochrane,Ontario from Southern or Mid Western Ontario?
Can you buy a mobile home, or must you build a home on the property ? 6:15 am 8/11/23
No mobile home, but maybe a "Modular". They're well built but not only a waiting list, they start at 120,000 Cdn.
There are many mobile homes around here, don't listen to the waterheads
@@reloadnorth7722 they may be around grandfathered in, but many cities even small ones preclude them as to Code. Modulars, yes.
Probably illegal in Cochrane
The catch is that it's Northern Ontario so amenities are limited compared to Southern Ontario and we must remember the -40C Winters :D
The catch is it’s completely fake and designed to drum up business for developers and the township.
How many of these properties are now being scooped up by corporations and/or real estate investment firms .... or hedge funds (is that what they are called?)
It won’t be “Canadians” taking advantage
Sad but true. Once the small towns are infiltrated Canada is DOOMED!
Then contribute by buying yourself a lot & moving there!
Well im from Toronto and willing to move there depending on jobs and if I can actually qualify for land. Any idea on how I can learn more about how to apply?
@@renrashad Give the town a call
Canadas been done since it was relegated to the French seigneury in 1532, and it is still run this way.
The catch, is that it's in Cochrane... Four hours past North Bay!
As long as the developers are required to build a mix of homes that are suitable for ALL incomes, ALL age groups and ALL types of families (including singles) AND pass their immense savings on the cost of land to the buyers of these homes! As well as contribute to the cost of the infrastructure needed for all the homes they build!
Be careful what you wish for.
Nobody wishes for this country that lives in it….
I’ve never been to Cochran but what would you do for a living? Let’s not even mention the weather and summer insects. Since food has to transported from further south, what are grocery prices and selection like?
fishing is good...
How’s the job prospects there .. ?
Why would I move to a small town? Retirement, and that's it.
There are lots of small towns across Canada with empty lots. Many of those lots owned by the town or municipality and selling for $1 to anyone that will build a home.
Andrew
Yep and I’ve been asking them for land for twenty years and they all say no because you have to be a developer.
@@ironhell813 then you're not asking in the right towns.
Cockrain what a glorious place to live
Where are all the jobs going to be for all the people building the homes?
dowtown Toronto where the money is :)
New mine going in.
Short train ride or flight away there are gem mines that need workers. The companies pay the fees. 14 days in 14 days out. Plus more gem mines opening. Cochrane is a point where the highway turns left to go west across the north of Ont. Green produce is hard to come by, like all those northern towns, plus short growing season.
How to get in contact to buy the property
You can’t, you’re the wrong persons for it….
If you are patient and willing to put in the work, you can pick up a lot in SE Ontario, an hour from Ottawa, for around 15k- in the corn-n-beans mind you.
Yep and have to save that too since the TE industry in Canada has law preventing land ownership by poor people
OK. So I build a house in Cochrane. Where do I go work? Where do I buy my groceries? I don't know.
Sounds a politician for sure ....
Inc rental properties..wait!
the thing wiht this is its very conditional you have to build the home yourself wihtin guidlines that are approved by the city or town or whatever and it has to be built wihtin a 2 year timeframe i beleive so its isnt 10 dollars theres catches to it.
Great and visionary Mayor
Corrupt and pedestrian one. Canadas filled with them
I would but the problem isn't the opportunity, it's the building cost. Most people I know don't even have $20k in the bank how can they build a house?
It’s both cause the opportunities just for rich devs
Thats what I'm saying@@ironhell813
That is the 1st step: to make land affordable to people and immigrants to build their house.
Why Mr Trudeau doesn’t understand that???
The town should give an step further and say this:
Hey, here is the looted land, here are the pre approved designs, if you are a working family, purchase the lot, grab a pre-approved design plan and build your house and be happy, free and prosper.
Why the progress of Mr Trudeau cannot see this???
None of them understand it the land is going to developers so they can make money. Poor ppl get shit in Canada.
Not true, I already sign up but no details
Very interesting but the audio is bad hard to understand for me anyway
Lost me at "developers". Re-think that one or Cochrane may end up with a ghost town of unaffordable houses.
They’d rather a ghost town so long as they all get to own it. Canadas strategy since 1532.
There is nothing on MLS for $10

I've had domes on my mind however what I've seen is for plant's. Blessings 🙏💞
Nope wrong version of canada
Where would I work? Is there a carpenter local there? Are they building anywhere near there?
Does mining mean toxic water soil air etc like most northern towns
And where are people going to work? How many jobs can your community create?
He seems like a bright man open to new progressive ideas. All the best to the town and it's people.
You can’t find anyone to build a home for you. Nobody wants to work.
….and you’re not allowed to build your own, welcome to hell frozen over…
EV's are dead
Heating costs are like Toronto Rent. Good Luck with that.
A Hepa wood stove can heat a 1500 sf house with no problems. Very cheap compared to any other heat source and you won't freeze.
You obviously haven't a clue
What do you do for employment up in Cochrane?

set up a internet connection and work from home?

How may one go about obtaining these properties from out o country🤔

We don't believe you 😮
They have since changed the name of the town to little delhi
Yep and it’ll be just as prosperous.
I love Cochran past by it with love
As long as the houses are not built crammed like a can a sardines things sould be fine. More people a leaving the country because of it.
Canadian dream ? More like a nightmare. The land could come with a free house.. I'd still pass.
Good idea, the house would probably not be yours anyways…
Any idea for someone working in Toronto how to get a start in the town of Cochrane?
wait, why?@Mentabolist
Like most northern towns.., requires skilled trades, small business minded people. Many locals work in a rotation at Detour Lake mine, IamGold mine in Gogama is nearby as well, they are both constantly looking for hard working people.
In other words if you’re from southern Ontario don’t apply cause you don’t work hard enough, no matter what you do for a living.
