Have played both Ori games and HK. HK was a great game but lacked in some aspects, but still a great experience overall. Both ori games were simply magnificent. Everything wrong with the first one was fixed for the second game. I'll be playing silksong too
I find if u don't play the first ori, u won't appreciate how much more they put into the sequel. The original PURE platforming skills, where the sequel introduced sidequests, melee battles, so many game playing uprages (shards). I was more over all In love with HK cus it has better replayability, where unless ur gonna 100% it, ori 1 isn't really got a lot of replayability to it. At least ori 2 has more side quests and such to break up the main story. But if u play ori 2 before 1, u'll feel too much like it's a step backwards, tho it's just missing the melee mechanics, which shows how perfect the original platforming was. All they could do to improve it is add active fighting. Whereas HK was started as a boss fight game with metroidvania mechanics to get from point a to point b without feeling too linear.
I just finished ori and the blind forest this morning and immediately started ori and the will of the wisps but 6 hours in (10 if you count the part I had to replay due to a glitch) I actually prefer the first one more so far. Plus I had zero issues with the first and have already ran into several issues with the sequel. First try at WOTW I couldn’t open the giant statue near the start of the game so I was going all over trying to figure out where to advance but the game was running nicely(I realized I accidentally started playing the sequel at this point and meant to play BF so I stopped and played that through first). Decided to restart my play through after beating BF and that’s when I found out my first play was glitched, then in the water well I somehow became glitched into out of bounds area and it is now laggy and doesn’t run as smoothly (my first play wasn’t like that). But I actually dislike many things they added (time/speed trials, side quest characters, the idiot moving whenever I can actually go buy skills from him again). I’m going to keep playing it so hopefully it will grow on me more but I’m already slightly disappointed after how much I loved BF. I might be the odd one out though.
Ngl accidentally played the second game first unaware it was a sequel and it didn't take away at all frome my experience. That's just how good the game was Ofcourse playing the first game did clear up some questions but Still
Personally I love Ori I’ve speed run the game and have about 200 hours on it, cs hollow knight is about 80hours, Ori made me cry the story telling was amazing
One thing I wanna point out in HKs OST, the songs change depending on just what room or part of the room ur in (as In certain instruments being more muted or rising in volume and etc) that really immerses u. It's hard to notice unless ur using headphones or something tho
Comparing games is something I love to do. No matter what it is, you can analyze them and determine where one succeeds other the other. These two games are neck and neck, which makes the comparison much harder and in some cases, funner.
@@WyvrnOnYT I personally disagree, comparing games would only result to unreasonable hatred for either of the games , i have seen that many times, it's the sparkle of toxic communities
@@purehollow It's really up to the people watching to take a videogame comparison personally. Part of watching a TH-cam video is hearing someone else voice their views. If people can't listen to other people comparing games without getting angry about it, they probably shouldn't be on the platform. Comparing videogames is fun because like I said, different games will excel in different categories. When talking about these two games, you can't just easily say "oh this one's better than that one" which makes it fun to overanalyze the key differences between the two. It's just a discussion about something that doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of things. I'm not worried about upsetting a certain group of people with this content.
Soundtrack and storytelling has to go to hollow knight, there are moments that hit so hard emotionally and the soundtrack and lore is so amazing and being able to piece it together yourself is absolutely beautiful.
Gotta call you out on the soundtrack one. Even though I only have about 14 hours on the game I can easily say Ori's is 10,000 light years better. Thanks for giving me your thoughts though!
@@WyvrnOnYTi have to disagree the path of pain ost and the hollow knights theme are so good in diffrent ways and the sense of ambience each area gives you with its theme chefs kiss
@@WyvrnOnYT as someone with great interest with the HK soundtrack, I disagree. The leitmotif and orchestration are masterful. Although I’ve enjoyed Gareth Coker’s work on other games like Immortals Fenyx Rising, Christopher Larkin just takes the cake on this one. The leitmotif is amazing, the Hollow Knight main theme finding itself in most music that involves a vessel. Such as Pure Vessel False Knight(since he’s technically hollow) Broken Vessel Path of Pain And so on Hollow Knight’s music is just better than Ori’s at storytelling and consistency, dare I say But they do both have amazing osts
@@NaxNestoris I defeated the broken vessel a couple days ago, and while I thought the soundtrack was great and fit the bossfight well, it's not better than any of the boss themes inside Ori. Ori just has better more emotional orchestration in my opinion. Obviously I haven't heard all of the tracks in hollow knight yet, but I doubt it can change my mind on the topic.
Such a coincidence! I have played these games 3 years ago and since then these 2 games are my favorite 2 indie games and also my favorite 2 2d platformers/metroidvanias. Love to see someone comparing my favorite 2 games. I’ve played WotW first before I played Hollow Knight but both games where incredibly amazing. Ori’s art is stunning, but Hollow knights art suits the games better then if it had the art style that Ori had. The music is in both games incredible. Ori has got the foul presence escape, dashing and bashing and many other great tracks like the menu theme but hollow knight has got the mantis lords theme, greenpath theme and nightmare king grimm theme. The emotional story of Ori is awesome but the amount of lore the whole story of Hollow Knight has is just incredible. For players who don’t go much in depth to the games story then the will of the wisps has a better one. But to people who are really interested and want to know more about it then there is a ton of lore to offer in hollow knight. The bosses in both games are amazing. I loved the Mora and Shriek fight in ori. Hollow Knight just has over 40 bosses while Ori has 6. I prefer the combat in Hk by a mile cause the combat wheel is a weird take and hallow knight whole Nail, Spells and Charm system is just great system. Overal I think Hallow Knight is a little bit better than Ori. HK S tier and Ori A-S tier. Both incredible games and must to play! Lmk what you think about my opinion :)
I haven't finished hollow knight but I gotta give S tier to both of the games. However I think Ori does for my personality a little more, so I like it a little more. I still refuse to critically rank one over the other lol

I personally like the soundtrack of Hollow Knight better than Ori's because the different songs in Hollow Knight sound so distinct and different (not to mention beautiful) while the soundtrack in Ori and the Will and the Wisps, while definitely beautiful, sounds very similar for most of the songs.
If you play through the Ori games and pay attention to the music, you will notice returning notes and melodies within separate tracks. I personally like this about the soundtrack, but I could see how it seems repetitive to some people.
@@WyvrnOnYT i mean Its similar in hollow knight too, there are a lot of leitmotifs ngl Like, how Sealed Vessel,Hollow Knight (main theme), White Palace and White Lady have a similar piece of music symbolizing the Pale King and such
It also changes depending on just moving from one small room, or even areas of the room. It's amazing how the soundtrack responds to what/where the player is. It really helped with the immersion for the game. Just my ¢.02
that's literally the problem of the hollow knight soundtrack, only a few stick out while in ori, every single escape and boss theme is memorable af, even some area themes
Music: Ori Art: Ori Exploration: HK Combat: HK Story: Ori Characters: Ori World Building: HK Bosses: HK Weapons and Abilities: Ori Platforming: HK Flow state: Ori
Soundtrack goes to Hollow Knight, and I will die on that hill. You can stop playing hk for years, then open the menu and get blasted by the theme. It is so filled with emotion, and is truly amazing. My favorite soundtrack of any video game, from the hornet violin, to the soft melancholy hum of the barren grounds. Truly amazing.
Agree. Ori’s soundtrack is bigger and maybe critically better but it is also more generic and less memorable. I remember every OST in hollow knight and where it sounded. Cant say the same with Ori.
Ori: Spike -> Ultra grapple -> Launch towards -> Ultra Bash straight up -> Hammer down -> loop I love both games a lot of a lot, but the combat in Ori WotW is so greatly improved, it does outdo HK imo. The music in both is fantastic, I listen to Christopher Larkin AND Gareth Coker throughout any given work day and it's a good time. The world building of both is phenomenal. The stories... beautiful. Ori WotW definitely the advantage of its writer getting to sample Hollow Knight's success as he made Ori WotW tho, and there's nothing wrong with that - Hollow Knight's an inspirational, bar-raising game! So much so that other metroidvania games compare / mimic HK, including Ori WotW - which I see as an honor to HK.
Ori has extremely satisfying movement, especially in air during a fight, but it comes at a cost of sometimes forgetting which button does what 😅 Also I had an unpleasant experience with clipping into walls on multiple occasions Hollow knight on the other hand has a precise movement, perfect for combat which is where the game is at its best
Major difference is Hollow Knight’s excruciatingly slow start compared to Ori’s which was captivating from the get go. Overall Ori was emotional through story and visuals whereas Hollow Knight was captivating in its boss design and combat depth.
I only played Ori and the Blind Forest. Ori takes it over with the vocals in some areas and Hollow knight in others with the instruments. Overall Ori has more "epic" music while HK has less of it as it only ties to the boss tracks. Ori has a straightforward storytelling while HK you have to DIG for lore and the more you go on and find stuff the more heartbreaking it gets. Endings-wise, both win, despite Ori only having one it still suits the more linear storytelling than what HK has. HK has a more "cartoony" style, simpler to do while Ori looks like a darn painting, and they fit both the ambiences and feelings the games give you. Platforming-wise, Ori is more dynamic due to the areas you find yourself in while Hollow Knight feels like it should: exploring ruins, wich don't really fit the platforming style of Ori. Combat-wise, HK is simpler despite the variety of charms while Ori instead prefers to give the players different weapons as opposed to a sword, modifiers and spells to adapt to each play style. Overall both strike at the hearts of players and both deserve the win in their own unique ways. Stories that deserve praise, efforts that deserve recognition and in the end even if for just a while, you het immersed and be someone else to live what the creators put out for you. I can only congratulate both games and those that were behind them.
I don't think either game is better than the other, they just shine in different areas. I first played Ori the Blind forest and loved the game and to my surprise the second game came out, which I of course played. Now, I recently got into Hollow knight and can say it is a completely different experience than Ori. This is because WOW(Will of Wisps) is a more cinematic, story driven game. WOW is more lighthearted and well, frankly easier, than Hollow Knight. Meanwhile Hollow Knight is simply darker, and more combat/skill centered game. In conclusion, BOTH games are AWESOME and I recommend people to try them for themselves and compare. :)
Personally hollow knight, I really didn’t like ori and it’s plaformer while hollow knight is less platforming and more fighting. Also for having played both game I can say that hollow knight have a way more memorable soundtrack and that is imo better. Story wise, hollow knight get it too because you need to found it by yourself and get invested and this just make the final boss better I’ll give hollow knight Stier and ori Atier It’s just my opinion
Blind forest and the will of the wisps i genuinely broke down at a couple points because of the ost and the way that the events played out both of those games and HK are amazing im not going to say one is better than the other because theyre all just that good
I played ori and the will of the wisps and hollow knight, both are perfect and beautiful platforming games, ori is more on cinematic and very fast playthrough while hollow knight is more on slow and clean and also the osts are beautiful too
I just finished both ori's and absolutely loved them, will I enjoy hollow night as much or should I wait a little and play it after the ori high is subsided?
I really enjoyed both but HK was just so special to me in all categories : areas, soundtracks, bosses, visuals, exploration, lore,... It's just one of my favorite games
One big think about hollow knight is the end game content. I got the game close to a year ago, beat the came completely, but I’m still playing it getting other achievements and doing little stupid challenges
@@WyvrnOnYT the ending is beautiful. I also recommend you try to complete all the pantheons. I know it's hard but the true end of the game is when you complete the last pantheon
About story.. I think Hollow Knight's story is better.. the difference is just the fact of Ori gives to you the hole story in your hands, otherwise, Hollow Knight makes you analyze and think about what is the story, and when you do this.. Holly shit, incredible story!!
I'm about 15 hours into the game so far; not invested in the story like I was in Ori. From what I've played, story is not one of Hollow Knights strengths.
There is so much hidden story in everything you see in Hollow Knight, it's incredible. The story is great in both games, but I agree with this comment that Hollow Knight is better because you have to search for it.
@@WyvrnOnYT ohh, you have so much thing to see and discover... When you do 112% of the game, I really recommend to see the Mossbag's video about the story of Hollow Knight
@@WyvrnOnYT upside down. the back story is its strongest and most emotional point. Look for videos that explain it. You still have a looong way to go in the game
@Wyvrn because it is the same as souls games, you have to search for it. Otherwise, you get nothing. In a sense, it is more worthy than ori since you earned this game is story. And that is rewarding even though I do dislike the way souls game offer you the mechanics and the game art. In fact, the whole way they portray these games and their inspirations never had opened a motivation for me to play them. But hollow knight makes it different since a 2d plataformer, action, adventure even though is it sometimes a pain the a.. I have been enjoying it much more than the likes of GoW Ragnarok.
My favorite moment in any game ever is in the first Ori right after restoring the Spirit of Water. #iykyk Hollow Knight is great but I’m really frustrated by how they decided you should die. The game creators decided dying wasn’t bad enough; they take your money, make you unable to restore soul, and you have to go back to wherever you died to get any of it back. It a sign the developers hate their players.
Ori is my fave out of these two but I wish it had Hollow Knight's depth and exploration. The only thing I didn't like is how short it felt at times and that there was little reason to go back to certain areas after you were done.
Coming back to this but hollow knight has a deeper story. Throughout hollow knight this idea that the knight has no will or mind or desire is enforced upon us. Yet we deny this postulate. We make decisions we can spare and save others or kill them and leave them behind. This is what lets us succeed. The ability to chose lets us finally beat the true final enemy.
Ori’s movement is some of the best I have experienced in a video game. Ori has a lot of weight to him meanwhile the knight feels pretty light in comparison. This is just my opinion tho
I think ori and the will of the wisps is more platform game, while hollow knight is more fighting game, because you can use every ability any time and they can’t break the game balance. I played ori a little bit and saw few videos about it, but i still think that hollow knight gave ori some ideas like charms, dashes and etc.
hollow knight has a better difficulty and white palace and PoP are fun af, but the platforming is just too simple. it's pretty clear what to do in hollow knight while in ori, you first have to find where even to go which makes it more challenging and fun
Hollow knight because it have more fantastic story telling and you always have something to do in hollow knight even with 100000000000 hours play time that's the reason
@@WyvrnOnYT I played all three games, started with both Ori games (were amazing ,one of my fav games btw) and thought hollow knight was an average or lesser game and oh damn I was wrong. Both are amazing , but Hollow Knight takes the W by far ,though these games are hard to compare because they shine on different aspects
I used to like Ori and the Blind Forest more than Wotw, but after replaying both in October, Wotw is clearly the better game. Everything about it is beautiful and cinematic. It is one of the best games of all time. (So is HK)
What we like about the lore of Hollow Knight is that it's hidden, and you have to find it, or theorize it yourself. Ori's lore is a little obvious, or in the open. However, these games both have a great art style, OST, and mechanics. I just have to give it to Hollow Knight though,
I was trying ori but I just couldn't get around the confusing map and quest system, the progression just seems so weird and call me dumb but its shouldn't be hard to figure out what you need to do next, the difficulty should come in the execution of the task, not getting to it
Personally, ori is my fave, it's the first platformer I ever picked up and fell in love with it instantly, since I got it it's always been at the top of my list of games and it's the only game that had such an emotional story that I genuinely cried. That's when you know it's a great game. Also, if you see this, hi Wyvrn, I love your content, you are amazing at what you do and you have a great sense of humour.
If i had to choose 1 id probably choose hollowknight for its replay ability, challenge and depth with its badge system which gives you a bit more customisation and its endlesss secrets, the fights are still hard even when i return as a seasoned player. Or I isnt an experience id want to miss, its honestly right up there with it and better in so many respects but it just doesn’t spread as far. It’s intense and hits all the right notes, feels amazing to play but if your a “gamer” i think hollow knight is the one if you HAD to chose just one..
Ori's art style is my favorite videogame art style, not because it's better or more unique than Hollow Knight's, but because it just fits my personality more.
Sorry but IMO HK soundtrack is one of the greatest, Its just so beautifully orchestrated and it’s song fits the atmosphere of the area your in soo well. Ori soundtrack while still great is just not as atmospheric or as memorable to me, But if that just comes down to personal preference. Saying without a doubt Ori’s is better is almost insane to me but that is in fact your opinion so I get it. Also, Lore wise I def don’t think Ori is better in that regard. There’s so much more depth in HKs lore and it’s honestly quite fascinating to look into to, Platforming is about even for me, Probably more aesthetically pleasing in Ori, But im a sucker for more difficult Platforming personally and I def experienced more of that in HK, As far as overall story goes I think there’s def more emotional depth to Ori, Tho I’m still a fan on the very obscure style of storytelling in HK. Overall both great games, But to me one is a masterpiece and the others just a fantastic game, And if I called HK a fantastic game would be an understatement.
Appreciate your thoughts. I've gotten to hear some more of Hollow Knight's tracks and while I'm very impressed, it's orchestration is simply not as good as Ori's, neither is the platforming. The story is an interesting discussion because like you said, Ori has better emotional storytelling, but Hollow Knight's story has more depth and complexity. I formed my opinion on the story discussion using the fact that Ori's story grabbed me whereas Hollow Knights didn't. In reality, it's hard to compare these games because for two games in the same genre, they're pretty different, but since I love both of these games I wanted to bring up the discussion. These games have almost identical reviews as well, so while I personally prefer the setup of the Ori games, I don't think there's really a right or wrong answer when talking about which game is better. They're masterpieces, both of them, and they will stand the test of time.
I think this is the right answer. I think I personally prefer Ori WOTW for a few reasons, but I agree that HK is probably the best Metroidvania out there, at least in the last decade or two. Few games get as close to perfection as Hollow Knight
@@mihaimercenarul7467 Absolutely disagree about it lacking emotion and power, I can understand saying they lack depth tho. For me, HK OST did a better job of immersing me into each area than Ori, Making it's OST FAR more memorable IMO. Ori soundtrack still beautiful tho.
Played both, 100% on hollow knight, almost 100% on ori (still doing deathless). Both games are amazing. I love ori for the fluid movement, I love hollow knight for the bosses. Both games have amazing soundtracks and lore.
Honestly, ori seems pretty convoluted sometimes, HK is simple and it gives you the Metroid feeling of being able to annihilate anything. I really like metorid games, and I think HK is better than the Metroid dread. Ori is good, but I like the gods and nightmares soundtrack more than Ori's normal soundtrack.. On history I'd say ori, but... How knight has only had 1 game to give history... Still ori. It hits hard. On level design, yes, ori is better platformer, no doubt about that. but HK is better in areas... How do I say this... Ori gives more the feeling of: ohh this makes sense being here, ie stag stations/sub-areas like the hollowing wraiths or isma's... you don't feel something is filler(except for white palace and maybe greenpath+queen's gardens), while I feel Ori's map can be a bit smaller. I think hollow knight is better, reminds me of Metroid.. a lot.. rough movement, no clue where to go, and a history that you need to search/read(ie in prime saga) (Take into account I have only played Metroid games from NES, SNES, and the prime saga)
Ori is light and free with it's platforming, while Hallow Knight is grounded, feels solid, and is precise Ori has upgrades that cater EXTREMELY well to its free and light feeling platforming and everything just blends together so well that by the end you're combining everything you've gotten so far into this dance of dashing and bashing your way through the new areas Hallow Knight does this as well in its own right, getting upgrades that allow you to move more freely throughout the areas, some being especially essential to being able to progress (obviously ori does the same that's the way this genre of games work after all) but all the upgrades lend themselves EXTREMELY well to the grounded and precise feel that Hallow Knights platforming is going for the stories, the atmosphere, the boss fights EVERYTHING, in both games, all lend themselves extremely well to their base parts and both are master crafts in the world of Metrovania's these two games/game franchises are like what Minecraft and Terraria are to each other, both equally amazing, both beloved in their own rights, and both having a different take on their genre of gaming.
I can't exactly say much about hollow knight, because I've never played it, but I have a HUGE soft spot for ori and games like it such as "child of light" or "Rayman legends" as both have aspects of ori and are simply amazing
Platforming is more creative in Ori but HK’s handling is just so solid which is probably why combat feels better. HK’s storytelling throughout is better in how it integrates with gameplay but Ori’s ending beats all of HK’s endings put together.
you cannot just say that hollow knight has better platforming and artstyle, ori clearly wins at these points. however you could argue whichever game has the better soundtrack and story, but hollow knight clearly wins the bosses aspect
Both are really amazing games with their own unique style. But as for me I got to go with hollow knight because the platforming and challenges go crazy once you hit the white palace, but ori goes hard doing platforming with visual aesthetics. Both of their ost's are different which ori brings more of the environmental mood while hollow knight gives more environmental when exploring and tension when it comes to bosses and cutscenes. I respect both side of content.
Just bought all three games, playing ori 1 and hollow knight simultaneously, can't wait till I'm leveled up, looks like that's where the funs at, still tho.. castlevania sotn set the bar high for me, I'll give proper judgment after I beat the 2 games, hopefully silksong is out by then, and I can play both part 2 of both games
I agree. I completed HK 112% and it was the best game experience i've had. Ori is also an amazing game and one of the best videogames you can find today, but it doesn't match hollow knight in gameplay and music (music is debatable, but Grimm troupe and nightmare King are second to none)
I just started ori and the will of the wisps today after just playing ori and the blind forest. So far I prefer ori and the blind forest but I can’t wait to check out hollow knight eventually.

One thing I wanna point out in HKs OST, the songs change depending on just what room or part of the room ur in (as In certain instruments being more muted or rising in volume and etc) that really immerses u. It's hard to notice unless ur using headphones or something tho
The ori soundtrack is so fire 🔥 and the bosses are are so fun and have the most dramatic music I’ve ever heard. Gareth Coker was cooking 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥
I personally wouldn't even compare them, I don't like comparing games with each other, I like to look at them as a unique individual art
Such as
Pure Vessel
False Knight(since he’s technically hollow)
Broken Vessel
Path of Pain
And so on
Hollow Knight’s music is just better than Ori’s at storytelling and consistency, dare I say
But they do both have amazing osts
@@NaxNestoris I defeated the broken vessel a couple days ago, and while I thought the soundtrack was great and fit the bossfight well, it's not better than any of the boss themes inside Ori. Ori just has better more emotional orchestration in my opinion. Obviously I haven't heard all of the tracks in hollow knight yet, but I doubt it can change my mind on the topic.
@@antx_soulsborne_meat_rider I'd personally add Pure vessels theme to that list along with the music when you get voidheart
You forgot a factor: Hollow Knight wins the masochist/“imma go cry in desperation cause I can’t beat a boss fight” side
Just a little precision tho, Ori is not indie, and it is published by Xbox, which is a very big publisher
@@neltharionrayane5336 It’s published by Moon Studios. It is playable on Xbow (also switch and pc) but it’s not published by it

Ori's leitmotif is in my opinion iconic and very versatile to make all of its songs incredible, but you do have a point.
@@WyvrnOnYT i mean
Its similar in hollow knight too, there are a lot of leitmotifs ngl
Like, how Sealed Vessel,Hollow Knight (main theme), White Palace and White Lady have a similar piece of music symbolizing the Pale King and such
It also changes depending on just moving from one small room, or even areas of the room. It's amazing how the soundtrack responds to what/where the player is. It really helped with the immersion for the game. Just my ¢.02
that's literally the problem of the hollow knight soundtrack, only a few stick out while in ori, every single escape and boss theme is memorable af, even some area themes

When i putted on the hollow knight dirthmouth soundtrack, i cried.
The hollo knight music is crazy, and criminally underrated
Soundtrack goes to Hollow Knight, and I will die on that hill. You can stop playing hk for years, then open the menu and get blasted by the theme. It is so filled with emotion, and is truly amazing. My favorite soundtrack of any video game, from the hornet violin, to the soft melancholy hum of the barren grounds. Truly amazing.
Agree. Ori’s soundtrack is bigger and maybe critically better but it is also more generic and less memorable. I remember every OST in hollow knight and where it sounded. Cant say the same with Ori.
Ori: Spike -> Ultra grapple -> Launch towards -> Ultra Bash straight up -> Hammer down -> loop
I love both games a lot of a lot, but the combat in Ori WotW is so greatly improved, it does outdo HK imo.
As someone who’s played both games I’d have to say that hollow knight takes it for music

I actually agree on most of those points but I still think that both games are very different and are amazing in their own unique way.
Ori has extremely satisfying movement, especially in air during a fight, but it comes at a cost of sometimes forgetting which button does what 😅
Also I had an unpleasant experience with clipping into walls on multiple occasions
Hollow knight on the other hand has a precise movement, perfect for combat which is where the game is at its best
I just like dung defender so hollow knight

Valid
Major difference is Hollow Knight’s excruciatingly slow start compared to Ori’s which was captivating from the get go.
Overall Ori was emotional through story and visuals whereas Hollow Knight was captivating in its boss design and combat depth.
And also finding put what the pale king did and everything the kingdom went through when the radiance started infecting every bugs
I appreciate your perspective on this. You should definitely check out Will of the Wisps. I think it's better than the Blind Forest.
this is where i drew the line of stop comparing and start enjoying
Im glad that i started Hollow Knight a few days ago. It's genuinely fun to play :D
Personally hollow knight, I really didn’t like ori and it’s plaformer while hollow knight is less platforming and more fighting. Also for having played both game I can say that hollow knight have a way more memorable soundtrack and that is imo better.
Story wise, hollow knight get it too because you need to found it by yourself and get invested and this just make the final boss better
I’ll give hollow knight Stier and ori Atier
It’s just my opinion
I’ve only played ori and the blind forest and I’m planning on getting hollow night soon.
Ori just made me cry i finished playing it
Blind forest and the will of the wisps i genuinely broke down at a couple points because of the ost and the way that the events played out both of those games and HK are amazing im not going to say one is better than the other because theyre all just that good
I played ori and the will of the wisps and hollow knight, both are perfect and beautiful platforming games, ori is more on cinematic and very fast playthrough while hollow knight is more on slow and clean and also the osts are beautiful too
No way bro just said that about hollow knights story
If both companies came together and made a Metroidvaina
using their strengths combined. It would be the best metroidvania EVER.
They both have their own personal charm
Ori is cinematic with a great sound track while hollow knight has great gameplay/combat and exploration❤
Im not sure what's in the HK endgame yet. In Ori the only thing you can do is get all the achievements and what not.
@@WyvrnOnYT I won’t spoil anything but the endgame content is why people have sunk THOUSANDS of hours into the game
#iykyk
Hollow Knight is great but I’m really frustrated by how they decided you should die.
These are two of my all time favorite games, I can’t say one is better than the other. They are both equally amazing in their own way 😌
They’re not comparable ori is so much better
I gotta give it to hollow. The soundtrack is better in my opinion for hollow knight.
Better platforming path of pain and white palace are so good and challenging
Well platforming isn’t hollow knight’s best, I’d say it shines in pretty much every other category
hollow knight has a better difficulty and white palace and PoP are fun af, but the platforming is just too simple. it's pretty clear what to do in hollow knight while in ori, you first have to find where even to go which makes it more challenging and fun
yea tahts only 2 things xd
I usually just listen to podcasts while playing
Hollow knight because it have more fantastic story telling and you always have something to do in hollow knight even with 100000000000 hours play time that's the reason

What we like about the lore of Hollow Knight is that it's hidden, and you have to find it, or theorize it yourself. Ori's lore is a little obvious, or in the open. However, these games both have a great art style, OST, and mechanics. I just have to give it to Hollow Knight though,
ori had whole xbox team supporting financially and technically no wonder it wins
I love both but idk I think the soundtrack for Hollow Knight is better, when you’re climbing out of the abyss the music is so hype.
As an incredibly biased hollow knight fan who has never played Ori and the will of the wisps I'd say hk easily comes out on top
At least you're honest 😆
Here’s Ori and Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps and now GO PLAY IT!!
You're missing out if you don't play both of these games, plain and simple.
I like the first ori game better than the secound more difficult for me.
I love both, hollow knight just takes 1st place because it's more replayable (in my opinion). Also Hollow Knight has much deeper lore than Ori
Yeah. Hollow Knight is 1000 times more replayable. I agree
Ori have a incredible and immersive story ❤
If i had to choose 1 id probably choose hollowknight for its replay ability, challenge and depth with its badge system which gives you a bit more customisation and its endlesss secrets, the fights are still hard even when i return as a seasoned player. Or I isnt an experience id want to miss, its honestly right up there with it and better in so many respects but it just doesn’t spread as far. It’s intense and hits all the right notes, feels amazing to play but if your a “gamer” i think hollow knight is the one if you HAD to chose just one..
BOTH is GOAT
Agreed!
Ori seems so prettyy
Ori's art style is my favorite videogame art style, not because it's better or more unique than Hollow Knight's, but because it just fits my personality more.
Completely agree with every statement lol. Love both games👌
Hollow knight ost lacks în depth, emoțion and power. Ori ost îs more emotional, has more depth and variety and feel much more emersing.

Ori and hollow Knight is both good games
2 of the greatest games ever. I tend to return more often to Hollow knight, so I guess I will have it win.
Played both, 100% on hollow knight, almost 100% on ori (still doing deathless). Both games are amazing. I love ori for the fluid movement, I love hollow knight for the bosses. Both games have amazing soundtracks and lore.
Ori honestly changed something in me, that’s one game that I’ll happily keep in the vault in my head😊
I think hollow knight is better, reminds me of Metroid.. a lot.. rough movement, no clue where to go, and a history that you need to search/read(ie in prime saga)
(Take into account I have only played Metroid games from NES, SNES, and the prime saga)
Ori is light and free with it's platforming, while Hallow Knight is grounded, feels solid, and is precise
Ori has upgrades that cater EXTREMELY well to its free and light feeling platforming and everything just blends together so well that by the end you're combining everything you've gotten so far into this dance of dashing and bashing your way through the new areas
Hallow Knight does this as well in its own right, getting upgrades that allow you to move more freely throughout the areas, some being especially essential to being able to progress (obviously ori does the same that's the way this genre of games work after all) but all the upgrades lend themselves EXTREMELY well to the grounded and precise feel that Hallow Knights platforming is going for
the stories, the atmosphere, the boss fights EVERYTHING, in both games, all lend themselves extremely well to their base parts and both are master crafts in the world of Metrovania's
these two games/game franchises are like what Minecraft and Terraria are to each other, both equally amazing, both beloved in their own rights, and both having a different take on their genre of gaming.
I can't exactly say much about hollow knight, because I've never played it, but I have a HUGE soft spot for ori and games like it such as "child of light" or "Rayman legends" as both have aspects of ori and are simply amazing
Ori the blind forest...
BOTH ARE AMAZING YOU CANT COMPARE THEM
Platforming is more creative in Ori but HK’s handling is just so solid which is probably why combat feels better. HK’s storytelling throughout is better in how it integrates with gameplay but Ori’s ending beats all of HK’s endings put together.
Me discovered Ori for the first time: ooooh, I gotta try this game!
Me after witnessed its graphic: never mind, my PC gonna explode-
I've played both, hollow knight wins in every aspect to me.
I would say it wins in most. It's undeniable that Ori has better platforming, (I've done the path of pain in Hollow Knight)
@@WyvrnOnYT lol I did parh of pain hitless with pure vessel at the end
you cannot just say that hollow knight has better platforming and artstyle, ori clearly wins at these points. however you could argue whichever game has the better soundtrack and story, but hollow knight clearly wins the bosses aspect

You're right. Hollow Knight is what people think of when they think Metroidvanias (that aren't metroid or castlevania)
I agree. I completed HK 112% and it was the best game experience i've had. Ori is also an amazing game and one of the best videogames you can find today, but it doesn't match hollow knight in gameplay and music (music is debatable, but Grimm troupe and nightmare King are second to none)
At LEAST since SotN or even Super Metroid.
Both sotn and super metroid are better than ori and hk.
