      Probably because of the cameras. Neil was famously shy.

    No other band would dare try this without it turning into a complete shitshow, Rush is one of the only bands that were capable of actually honestly pulling this off, because they were Truly the only ones who cared about EVERY little aspect they brought to the table on and off the stage!
    RESPECT!!

      Yeah, bands like The Police or Motley Crüe could not do this kind of video because it would either end up in a massive fight, or, as you said, be an unpublishable shitshow.

    You definitely now need to watch the documentary about them "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage". Not only for getting to see their history, but to also watch a few more scenes at that dinner that appear during the credits. My favorite exchange from those scenes:
    (slightly inebriated Neil Peart): "You know about the old adage 'if you stick a bunch of monkeys in a room full of typewriters, they'll eventually produce the complete works of Shakespeare'..."
    (completely hammered Alex Lifeson) " Who's gonna clean those typewriters!! "

      Don’t worry about it. If you leave the monkeys in there long enough, they’ll then turn those works into screenplays, and soon you can afford new typewriters.

      @ryansheehan9462 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      My favorite exchange, which I am almost sure was shown in the credits but I may be wrong, was:
      Alex: “when I get over there I will rise to my knees and kick your ass”
      Geddy: “Rise to your knees? Sounds like a Rush album title!”

    Nothing to see, here, folks just a Dirk, a Lerxst, & a Pratt, from the freakin’ greatest band in the world, enjoying drinks & dinner and each other’s company after being away from each other for some time.
    But, seriously, the level of brilliance and passion and love of art gathered around that table is utterly staggering and then to see that spark of creativity starting to twinkle in their eyes, oozing out of those giant brains, and you know there was something coming after this!
    Thank you, Charis, for sharing this! It was great visiting with them, again!

    What a wonderful treat to end the year!
    Three down to earth guys who have a great brotherhood.
    Alex = Lersxt
    Geddy = Dirk
    Neil = Pratt
    Both Alex and Geddy have an extensive wine collections.
    Both Geddy and Alex got married in their 20's and they are still married today. Neil went through a huge tragedy when his 19 year old daughter died in a car accident and his wife Jackie died from cancer within the same year. He went on a very long motorcycle journey to heal and ended up in California where he was introduced to Carrie Nutell who became his second wife.
    He had a second daughter Olivia who he was teaching to drum before he to passed from cancer.
    Beyond the Lighted Stage is a great documentary on the band. I think you would enjoy it.
    Have a wonderful New Year! 🎉🎉🎉

    Yes! We have so much more in common than that which divides us! I've always loved this clip. They're just dudes hanging out, being silly.
    Little haunting comments on Neil. "Don't kill Pratt! It's bad for business." And Neil: "I'm dying here." If only it weren't true. But we're all learning that we're only immortal for a limited time.
    These guys have given me sooner off the finest moments of my life. I appreciate them so much. And I appreciate you for sharing your discovery of Rush with us. They're a deep band, with so many layers to unpeel. Each one is a gift. I've shared many of them with my daughter. It's wonderful to see new generations discovering the music that has inspired me for about 47 years. Thank you!

    One of the things about the documentary was how it came about. When they were approached they asked the filmmakers "whats your angle? Why do you want to do it?". When the filmmakers replied "we haven't worked that out yet" the band said "yes". They really appreciated the honesty of the people doing it. Rush also said by this point they had almost forgotten they were there so this was them being them. You should check out the whole thing as it is really interesting. The bit about Neil losing his 18 year old daughter and then his long term partner is really gutting and sad but it shows again the humanity of the guys.

    The overwhelming Vibe you get from this is how much these guys love each other. They are still full of good humor and good cheer and glad to be in each other's company at this point in their lives. I think this was filmed about 10 years ago or so but they already had a 30-year career at that point. Most bands do not endure to this degree at all and it is a testament to just how much they value each other that something like this can even let us in to observe it and feel a bit of the joy that was obviously their world.

    whenever i feel down & need a pick-me-up, i watch Dinner With Rush - this is one of the best showcases of what it means to be in a healthy, happy rock band. It's not easy being in a band, let alone a successful touring and recording band that's beloved by millions of people. The relationship these three have remind me of all the best band experiences I've been in. It really is a family. It also shows how humor is so important in not only friendship but in a working/business relationship in music. I've had some wonderful dinner experiences with some of the bands I've been in over the years, but I wish we had this experience :)
    This also makes me miss Neil - he was such a beautiful soul.

    This is a great video to watch, to see them in their normal lives enjoying themselves eating and drinking is golden!
    It’s so amazing that a band will do this, to see into their private lives is just magical!
    Going on your comment about wishing that bands would share things like this, there’s a band that I enjoy watching that coincidentally is another trio called The Warning. They always share their end of tour commentary about their feelings about how the tour went, also they have live get togethers on Instagram or TH-cam regularly just to connect with their fans. Last year they played live at the MTV VMAs two songs, More and Evolve, they also toured Europe with Muse, America with Halestorm and Pretty Reckless and some of their own headliners. This year they’re going back to Europe headlining in 7/8 countries and have been invited to Wacken open air 2024. Their Drummer, Paulina has always cited Neil Peart as a big influence and has been awarded best up and coming Rock drummer by Drummer magazine! The Bass player Alejandra is a big fan of Muse and learned to play Hysteria before she was 10! The guitarist Daniella cites several famous guitarists as her influences but as she also is the main vocalist she has had to mix styles to suit what she does. I hope you could take some of your precious time to listen to them, I am sure that you would like them!

    I wish that the RUSH tribute band I played in while in college got along that well. The only time that we weren't quibbling was after a show-after we had either played for 90 minutes or did two one hour sets, then we had to load our own stuff because we could afford only one roadie (and he helped, of course). We'd sit and snooze in the suburban on the way back to school while the school PIO drove (it was a private college and he was picky about the venues we played in). To quote Dickens: "It was the best of times" (being on stage) "It was the worst of times" (rehearsals, because the lead guitarist was into Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath, rhythm guitarist was into Deep Purple and the two girls (keyboards/bass guitar) strongly felt that we should be doing pop songs, but our audience wanted RUSH and responded to only that).

    There were two main reasons why this band survived for more than 40 years and put out gobs of great music. The first reason is because they genuinely liked each other. The second reason is because of something Geddy said decades ago. Whenever they had to make a decision there was never a tie vote.

    It is very Earnest and quite honest. Growing up as a rush fan there wasn't really a ton of behind-the-scenes materials available in those years, what you knew about an artist was what the press machines put out or what magazine interviews said Etc you could scour through the album liner notes for some inside but we all considered a pretty serious group of dudes and in truth they were when it came to putting out quality work, but they were clearly so comfortable with each other and had such great senses of humor that it was great to finally see that side of them in the later years. The only thing that stings you're a bit is senior interactions with Neil how much they clearly love the guy and it was obviously reciprocated, and now he's gone but at least he left a huge body of work and things like this for us to remember

    RUSH was so private with their lives i am shocked they got this hammered and let somebody film it that's great. We all know they are so musically gifted but just imagine how much IQ was sitting at that table. Good job KID on RUSHMAS the RUSH fans always welcome new ones especially females lol! This rabbit hole you have entered will never end. I have suggested you look into a deep dive into LINKIN PARK their careers were cut short do to suicide so sad just a thought. One more band to think about is SHINEDOWN they have 18 #1 songs on main stream rock charts more than any other rock band since they have started the charts also their lead singer overcame a drug addiction is just a good story but just some thoughts THANKS! ENTRE NOUS \/!

    This is great .. so glad you did this one. I have watched this same video several times and really enjoy it. Three of the most amazing people, ever to roam the Earth. I grew up listening to these guys, watching and listening to any interviews that came along. A couple of my high school friends and I had a little band together, at about the time the album "All The World's A Stage" came along, we were absolutely engulfed over that album. We once set up some big speaker cabinets in my backyard (on a hill, over looking the town) and dubbed it "All The World's A Mini-Stage" .. hahaha! .. here we attempted to annoy the community with our failed attempts at reproducing RUSH songs. Ah, such great times! .. I really really miss the 70's, 80's and 90's .. especially the 80's .. such a fantastic time to be alive. I am so fortunate to have been able to experience these things. RUSH has been a part of my life since my Jr. High School days. I have been fortunate to have seen them in concert about 20 times over the decades. Always a spectacular experience. Once snuck onto their stage during setup in Minneapolis .. stole a couple of Alex's picks (shhhh.., he may want them back). My sister in-law waited on them a few years ago here in Nashville, said they were the most gracious people you would ever meet. It's such a weird thing for me as you get to feel as if you know them, personally, even though you really don't know anything about them. Perhaps one of the most exciting times for me, believe it or not, was when Alex appeared on The Golf Channel with Rocco Mediate on the program "Playing Lessons From The Pros" .. That was an incredible experience for me as I was a full-blown golf nut at the time. I have played amateur competitive golf for over 30 years, and it was amazing to see one of my biggest music idols out playing the game that I love and enjoying it so much. I had learned that Alex loves to play golf and does so often. I would give almost anything to go play a round of golf with Alex, it would be so much fun (perhaps even dangerous .. haha). Here is a taste of Alex on the course (try not to pee your pants!) th-cam.com/video/ICtRqjpz5oY/w-d-xo.html (Alex appears at 1:42 mark)

    Stewart Copeland said he wished we (the police) could be like Rush because they are such best of friends. So many bands are envious of Rush because they are so close.

    Watch Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage. Part of this dinner is at the end of it. In this video part of the funniest content is missing. Alex pretends to be pissed of and says, "I quit the stupid effing band." Geddy says, "Fine! Take your smokes and go!" Comedy gold!

    I really think you would love the documentary Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, you could react to it, and split it up into 5 or 6 videos. It documents the band from their beginning up to 2010, including a lot of behind the scenes real life stuff like this one, and interviews with other rock stars and celebrities. It also goes in depth in their creative drive and talks about their early conflicts with the studios. I have loved Rush since my older (rebel) cousin introduced me to them in about 76. This documentary made me love them even more.
