I have always admired Harald Schmid and I still do. In some way, however, you cannot think of him wthout thinking of Edwin Moses. Harald was the only one who could seriously challenge Ed for about a decade. This must have been incredibly hard work for both of them. Thumbs up for Harald.
Yes, Ron was magnificent commentator and none more so that here. Elevates a great race into a true occasion we can enjoy forever. He was so enthusiastic and really brought the sport alive for the viewer. For those who don't know, he could back up his commentary with deep technical knowledge - he was a vastly experienced Athletics coach and he coached Britain's Lynn Davies to long jump Olympic gold in Tokyo 1964
He would beaten Edwin Moses..had it not been for the meet directors giving Moses special treatment ... the lanes he wanted... and no runners with fresh legs in the race etc..
#Ray Bhatia In the US they also did professional doping concerning the sprinters. I got to know that from videos of one of the manly involved persons, who has been punished for it afterwards. There existed a real competition in it between east- and westcoast athletes in the US.
@@ranjitb68 You are right, but the results of cheating with doping are the same for the socalled "loosers" whether organized by the government, the only way in a system where the economie is planned by the government or by private persons.

Man denkt wehmütig zurück!

Harald Schmidt is flying...good times never come back. Harald Schmidt, a great sprtsman on the side of Edwin Moses. Thank you, never forget the timers
Sublime commentary from the late, great Ron Pickering.
WOW! I remember seeing this race, was a big fan of Harald. Thanks for posting these videos from 1982
Ron Pickering nailed that one. Great commentary!.

What a great hurdler Schmid was - so unfortunate for him to be around in the same era as Ed Moses.
I was just thinking that. Moses was sure class.
and also unfortunate that West Germany chose to support the 1980 boycott of the olympics as he would have surely won gold. without any Americans there
Mein liebster deutscher Leichtathlet aller Zeiten! Was ein brutaler Fighter! Großartig!!!
😘😘😘
Always admired Schmidt
my idol a long time ago
Klasse!!! Respekt!!!
It makes Ed Moses look human! Great video and great sportsman
47,47 incredible time. Second best time of all times till then.
Never won Olympic gold - BUT:
most credible German athlete ever!
💪👏👌
His name is not Harald Schmidt, (that´s a comedian). The name of the runner is Harald Schmid.;-)
Yes, you're right!

Wrong title. His name is Harald Schmid - without t. And the spelling is not shmitt, but shmeed.

What utter Bollocks you talk.
I was a fan of the DDR athletes, but Ackermann was never better than Schmid!.
Schmid, nicht Schmidt😢
Karsten Warholm, eat your heart out :)
Pity they had to compete with state sponsored doping in USSR and esp DDR

@@jakefiersing yeah I'm sure it was widespread but wasn't organized by a government body like the USSR or DDR. , DDR in particular was horrific

Hehehwhwhheh
Edwin wasn't there.
I found Ackermann was the best
Komisch, das hier keiner nach Doping schreit....
