It's probably alcohol. He was once on Real time with Bill Maher (which is live and has no commercials) and he told them his cup has actual water in it and they kinda paused they show for a minute for somebody to get him a cup with alcohol in it.

I love how he has a drink on most talk shows. Drinking saved the man's life on 9/11. He was due to be on one of the airplanes out of Boston but went out the night before and missed the flight by 10 minutes. True story.

Well technically, if we keep going down the path we currently are, after the first faceless corporation finally cracks the artificial intelligence nut that leads them to a higher degree of technological efficiency and allows them to rapidly gather the vast resources necessary to buy up all the other large faceless corporations they are competing with, Disney will eventually be absorbed into them just like everything else, so we will all be working for Disney in the end.

I agree its quite close, but the problem is the jokes are often not easy to translate so often it is not as funny as the original
Torben exactly. From a voice perspective, the German version is one of the best, but nothing can be funnier than the original audio. And this is true for every show or movie. Some things just can’t be translated. Some jokes or references will always get lost

Every interview I watch with Seth MacFarland I like him more and more. He just seems like a genuinely nice, respectful, kind, intelligent, and talented individual. I realize respectful seems like a stretch with home many celebrities he bashes on Fam Guy...but when he’s actually sitting down with them he’s always respectful and kind. Watch the interview with Tom Cruise, lol. And you know many times Tiny Tom Cruise appears on family guy lol?

As a German myself: Family Guy is great in German, too.
The german version is pretty good, nothing to worry about :)
And yes of course... the original is always better, but the german voice actors and translators do a good job.

Eddie Panedi Germany is top notch at dubbing movies. Some shows (Simpsons, SpongeBob and pretty much every anime) often are even better in the dubbed version than the english version. Of course that doesn't necessary apply to everything but usually in Germany a lot of effort is put into dubbing movies and shows
DamageIncM "Germans all sound the same", way to be an ignorant prick (and to be dead wrong: compare some people from Berlin, Cologne and Munich. They will propably sound so different that they might even have trouble understanding each other)
As to dubbing, while i mostly prefer the original over the dub you have to accept that not everyone is fluent in English (add in slangs and accents to make it even harder) so it makes sense to dub movies and thus reach a broader audience (100 million German speakers).

I have to say I liked "Family Guy" in German, however, I love it in English. The problem as he mentions is that quite a lot of jokes cannot be translated, thus it is often not as funny as the original
And after watching Family Guy in english for a while i went back to german cause it was on tv and in my opinion the voices where terrible and unbearable

Eddie Panedi, you assume that there are not talented voice actors in Germany who can do a good version of it that works. With animated shows its more of a problem of translating the jokes than getting voice actor that can do a fitting voice. Its more of a problem when its not something animated. I generally watch everything in englisch by now and envy other EU countries like Finland that don't dub everything. But sometimes the results aren't that bad and in the case of at least one show, Hogans Heroes, the German dub is a lot, a lot lot lot more fun, they did an amazing job with it.
Torben I completely get your point because I'm Italian and sometimes I understand the point of a joke just because I know how it would be said in English. Fact is that obviously it doesn't make sense in other languages because of cultural reasons which belong to the American iconography and not to others like the German or the Italian one. Was this what you meant?

That´s a little missleading! Yes, both Peter Griffin and Will Smith are dubbed by Jan Odle, but since he disguises his voice for Peter (and maybe Will aswell), it´s not exactly the same voice (tone). It´s the same guy, but a very different tone!
c4blew you'right. What i meant is that they use the same person to do voices for peter and characters played by will smith. But i think you should be able to infer from context what i meant, since it does not make sense for a given character to have two distinct voices. Therefore it should be clear that with "voice" i mean the voice of the person that does the dubbing.

Family Guy is subtitled in Farsi and Arabic It's not dubbed. We don't get all the references and jokes about American pop culture but I think it kind of differs from person to person and their knowledge of movies and stuff that is mentioned on the show. Like I never watched Star wars but because it's mentioned in a lot of American movies I get the references and know the characters.

Family Guy is popular in Germany and Austria. Thanks to competent translators, almost none of the jokes get lost in German. Some have to be written differently to function but it still fits the context.
