It has already received a tax incentive for season 3. Something Discovery can't claim. Seth McFarlane is really sharp. His self-deprecating take on the character is a welcome change from the stiff heroic captains from Star Trek, or the horny heroic captain in the case of Captain Kirk.
I discovered this series only a week ago, and can honestly say, this is a creative, entertaining, fun series, that encompasses so many different topics that plague our societies today. I can only hope that there are MANY more new episodes to come...bring on seasons 3, 4, 5 etc.
Loved the comments on how a good show can stand on its own with a couple well written character relationships. Thank you SM for doing this show and creating quality family SciFi content. I love how you deal with the tough comments and questions, just like how the Orville deals with the tough problems our future faces. Gene Roddenberry would be proud someone can still create beautiful quality content.
When I first saw the episode with Charlize Theron, I was like 'what really good blackmail does Seth have on her that got her to do the show 😂 it's nice to know she is just a kind person and did the show for her friend.
Well if you look at how she frames her questions and how she askes them she seems to be trying to catch them out to make it look ridiculous and silly. That's what critics had in mind as soon as they seen it. None of them watched it, they all went by the trailer and made there mind up before it came out. It shows, considering every single fan that watched it loved and every critic shat on it.
🔹️ Seth referring to American shows, however the Brits were doing Sci-Fi/Comedy genre with Red Dwarf in the late 80s/early 90s. Or you could go back to 1960s America with My Favourite Martian & Lost in Space ( which was unintentionally funny with the presence of Jonathon Harris as Dr Zachary Smith )

so sad to see star trek go down the drain with their latest shows, but thank GOD for The Orville!!! They’re at least bringing in star trek directors that actually cared about the message.
The Book Series´source material of the Expanse is rather realistic by mindset than dystopian. The Expanse´s exaggerating musical score has much to do with this slightly uncomfortable feeling of endless betrayal around any corner waiting, without them giving us a break of it in between. I really think by now they overuse Horns and deep Bass sounds etc. in that Series, as like, in EVERY.DAMN.SCENE, even the calm ones where actually nothing happens. Starts to annoy me. Its not about action in the first place, so they should stop pretending it.
I don't find The Expanse to be dystopian per se, it is darker but I still find it very hopefull and it feels really fresh in it's more authentic approach. It is harsh of course but its fascinating how sexuality is handled like, there aren't really issues anymore about who does who or how Earth pretty much resolved the whole issues between poor and rich (not meaning that there aren't other issues at hand). The Expanse future is pretty realistic, which means it's sort of between utopian and dsystopian. The issue is just, that the new Star Trek show itself doesn't look more like The Orville, not that it has to be comedic and truly utopian but it's looking like the Expanse visually, it's just so dark, even in the scenes where lighting should make the room bright it's still dark and everything so far is about war and danger and not about wonder and adventure and of course exploration. I like that shows today are different from the past, that they are often more serious but with SciFi I agree that there is now a lack of less.. "fun" shows and there is also a bunch that are of course 100% dystopian with barely any hope in them. So The Orville is very welcome and I really hope it will be not just Family Guy in space (while I love Family Guy), not just american style fart jokes but a very nice and humorous mix and at the moment it seems to be like that.
The Expanse is the interim period between our time and the period of, say, the Federation, explaining how stuff like the Federation got to where it is.
Valeria Caissa I agree with you that today's Sci fi (not syfy or whatever) should be "grittier" and more realistic, but don't feel the pessimism about the future is necessary. It does no good (imho) to plan for Armageddon (lest we get what we planned for). I would like to see a future based on Bob Marley's "Until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes...everywhere is war". One thing attracts me to Orville, the talk of realistic relations of people of radically different, well everything. Show us that being from different ancestries is easy compared to having different definitions for air. And do it with humor. "Family Guy in space"? No. I think he pretty much done with that. Fart jokes in space? Maybe, but also much more.
I love that Yafit can type away and not see a thing he is typing. The show is brilliant, you care about the characters which so many film and show creators seem to forget. I came across this video randomly (or not, as I was looking at Star Trek stuff and it is related). Have only seen a bit of the first two Star Trek series and like it. I've never been a fan of his works. I mean I don't hate his works or anything, I just never really paid attention but thinking about what Seth MacFarlane has accomplished so far, I am truly impressed with this guy's multiple talents. First he looks not too bad himself. Sure that's not a talent, but it's an added bonus to any person. He draws, he writes, he do voices, he acts, he directs and he sings. The only thing missing from his arsenal is dancing.
I _loved_ Orville's first season, and I can't wait for its second! Traditionally the second season of shows has usually been the best, so I am looking for even better stuff!
The Orville has turned out to be much more than I expected. I knew that Seth would bring the humor and that he was a huge fan of Star Trek (and other Sci-Fi) but I admit I wasn't sure how he was going to mix that into this series. The latest episode was "Krill" that had repeated silly jokes about car rental companies but a serious, poignant plot about confronting an alien species that doesn't recognize your right to exist. The final scene of this episode certainly echoed the ethical dilemmas faced on the many iterations of Star Trek but most closely Deep Space 9. The show keeps getting better each week as the actors flesh out their characters and we learn more about their universe. I hope that Fox renews The Orville as the series has a lot of potential. Kudos to Seth for making a "Star Trek" series that feels like TOS in many ways.
