RBR had Newey before Honda when they were stuck with Renault engines. (After Seb's championships obviously.) Need both the aero and the engine to create a dominant car and Honda is leaving. RBPT has some very big boots to fill.

@@IanHobday It's RBPT that builds the engines now and it will still be most of the same people that will be building the engine for the foreseeable future... doesn't matter if it's under a Honda or Ford logo. It's not like Ford is bringing an engine for the team... they'll be funding what they already have. The engine that AM will get is going to be a "new" engine. And 2026 will be completely different engines, Mercedes could be on top again... hell even Renault could be.

They have the g.o.a.t. that not only might win them titles, but will at least definitely help them grow as a team with his experience, and the quickest driver on the grid (Leclerc), who is even the face of Ferrari, so they wont get rid of him anytime soon.

It's very clever PR. Speaking about a Verstappen move to Mercedes is a way of not addressing the terrible failure the car is at the moment. Basically, Toto has nothing to lose.

Because Red Bull is a drinks company now run by a board and the CEO that started the team has passed away. Mercedes on the other hand is a racing superpower that’s been around 70-80years also toto isn’t a pervert
because every contract negotiation right now is made with 2026 in mind. If you think that merc will have the best powertrain of the grind, it can be a good idea to switch even if it means to drive one year in the fiveth fastest car (if they don't get their act together and improve, wich isn't given).
Newey is off and Max will join Mercedes I can't wait until you have to eat those words. You're going to be a Mercedes fan within 18 months enjoy Lewis Hamilton's warm seat.

Bringing his team back to a dominant position after years of struggling due to engine disparity beyond his control. Since breaking record after record in 2022/2023. Securing Max Verstappen as his main driver for the long term. Keeping Adrian Newey loyally at his side due to a long standing personal friendship and leadership style.
You can dislike the guy all you want, but he’s one of the greatest men to ever be involved in this sport. Easily alongside the likes of Brawn, Todt, Dennis etc…

@@Steve5c2781 I said what I did in more around the idea that "Newey leaving" is different than "Newey leaving to another team". For now I guess it's hard to Redbull to mess the project up and for another team to close the gap, even with Newey. I don't know who the 2nd best aero eng is but I'd bet he is on Ferrari or McLaren right now. Or probably even at Redbull under Newey himself. Guy's there for a long time, maybe somebody learned a lot under him. We'll see.
There's a lot of luck involved in F1 too, I don't think people realize that. ALO spent most of his career fighting a bad car. He had the best car twice and won twice. HAM spent most of his career with the best car, and the rest with a car able to win races. Vettel was at the right place at the right time. VER has spent his whole life at Redbull, he has been through a lot. He is a central part of the car current level too. Whether he stays at Redbull or leaves, it's a lot about luck too.

I feel sorry for Sir Lewis Hamilton. He wasted 4 years for no reason. Toto Wolff growing overconfident is a key reason why Mercedes is in this state.
This could all be avoided if the management and technical team at Mercedes had kept their cool and been humble. Maybe they would lose, but they would still be fighting for championships.
