    Very good review!!! I average 68 to 70 mpg in San Francisco driving. I think the car looks good and don't understand why people think is ugly. For the price you get a lot of features than you cannot get in another car for the same price.

      They have to hate it because they realized they were stupid buying their SUV which sucks gas so bad and rides like a truck. It is justification for their error.

    I think this might be my next car. Thanks for the videos. My sister just picked one up today. The aesthetics aren't my favorite, but I'm old enough to where I don't care what anyone else thinks about what I drive...and I'm way more interested in the tech and fuel economy.

    Thanks for all your 2016 Prius videos that you posted on YT. It helped me purchase my new 2016 Prius Three this past weekend. I'll miss my turbo from my Caliber SRT-4, but definitely won't miss the horrible MPG's and the 93 octane only gas prices lol. I'm definitely loving the Prius and the ridiculously high MPG's I'm getting right now.

    Great review. I learned a few things. I have had my 2016 Prius for about 8 months and love it. I had a 2008 Prius previously. This 2016 has a bit more pep and stiffer suspension making it more fun to drive.

    I owned a generation 1 Prius. Due to 5 kids it became necessary to trade the Prius for a mini van. For years I missed the Prius and was fortunate enough to buy a 2016 Prius. I love this vehicle as much as you do. It is an amazing piece of technology. Thanks for your various Prius reviews. Excellent job with the content and production! You give non Prius people a real sense of the experience.

      If you buy new or a good condition used recent model, probably no worries for quite a bit of mileage. Replacing the battery, especially if you don't live in California, especially if you take it to a Toyota dealer, can cost upwards of $3300. I have a 2005 (base model, no upgrades) with 182k and it will need a new or fixed traction battery. Hint: used Prius should get in high forties (better than 45mgp) when they have a heathy traction battery. Note: this is not the tiny 12 volt battery but the but the big one under the back seat. It has about 200 Volts direct current and weighs over 100 lbs with the steel cover.

    • @coverturtle
      @coverturtle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES, get a new one if you can possibly afford it. It will save you gobs of $$. Even in the old ones, if the interior has been maintained, the interior is very nice and well thought out ergonomically. Remove the head rest on the front seat and you can tilt it all the way down to the back seat, making a place to lay down. If you are a car buff, reminiscent of the '60s Nash Rambler, but smaller.

    I just bought the 2016 prius aswell on the 3rd of March. My first prius ever and Ive never seen any cars out there as fuel efficient has the 2016 prius. USUALY THE $30-$40 FULL TANK OF GAS LAST ME A WEEK - THATS WITH DRIVING WITH IT ALL DAY EVERYDAY CUZ I USE IT FOR UBER. The blue turquois collor is called the Hybrid System Indicator. Its just a guide line pretty much. You're suppose to follow to save more gas!
    You can put the car to EV still during high speeds. 1st you accelerate to the speed you want and follow the HSI! Then once you're at the speed you want, let go of the gas pedal and put it to EV!! Ive only knew about this last week! Saves you even more gas if you're on EV all the time!

      @EvilSl0th 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      i saw as high as 88mpg in a video. not a typical drive though. he was just using tricks to get higher. what i dont understand is why do they use calculations of air intake, temp and other crap to find mpg? cant they simply measure the fuel passing into the engine and the km's to get a proper number?

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never understood that either. Gas consumed and mileage should be accurate.

    • @justinjones5281
      @justinjones5281 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jettlash1000 it is accurate you have to use average mpg not the best average mpg that you seen in that video. My average last full was 16 litres of fuel and it read 3.5L/100km which was bang on. For imperial drivers out there 3.5L/100km is about 70mpg

    I drive my prius like I stole it in normal mode and coast the hills still making 45mpg in town. I still find that if I put it in fast mode and drive like I have sense it gets better mpg due to the the extra motor torque on hills. To tell you I have never seen the green leaf light up on my car except the day I bought it. I tryed for a week to get it to light up again and I said screw it. My area has sloping inclines and impatient drivers so basically you gotta move with the flow to stay out of an accident and not tee people off. Now its summer I finally get 60 mpg's again in a 5 yr old car. In the winter I put pipe foam in the lower intake to keep the electric motor on longer and engine off longer and it keeps the battery warmer so I make 45 to 50 mpgs instead of 40. Now the newer prius has auto radiator block curtains you don't have to do that anymore. The top glove box comes in handy for stupid stuff like receipts and small items and it gets used more then the lower. I can see why people really miss it.

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if I'll ever get to the drive it like I stole it stage, but I have noticed on 70 mph trips, my mileage is low 50s compared to mid 60s in town.

    • @egn83b
      @egn83b 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe not stole it but see what it can do lol long after you had enough of the awesomeness of mpg.

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, yeah, I babied my Corolla for the first few years, eeking every last MPG out of it. After that, I drove it harder and cared less, so I'm sure I'll get there eventually with the Prius.

    • @coverturtle
      @coverturtle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like the top glove box as well. That's one of the things that impressed me about the interior. Wow. I didn't know about the "auto radiator block curtains" - nice! Note: when the NiMH battery is charging, it "automatically" gets warmer so during winter braking and driving to charge the battery when you first start out should improve overall EV torque and mileage.

    I live in New England where winters can be cold and snowy. I had a 2006 Prius and with even with light snow it had traction issues and cold weather drops the MPG dramatically,

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I heard the traction issues have been helped with the available traction control button on the 2016, which will allow tire spin. Current battery technology and combustion engines are highly impacted by temperatures, hopefully someone invents a way for that to change.

    • @coverturtle
      @coverturtle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It helps to have all-season or winter tires. For tire ratings, check tirerack.com, consumer reports or, if you can find the link, the actual DOT ratings. You want a good snow tire but you also want the tire to last, so check the mileage ratings.

    The blue line on the monitor is a "recommended target" as far as I could find out. Mine has 6k miles on it. I haven't noticed the mileage is any better after "breaking it in." I changed my oil at 6k miles also. Dealer will change it at 10k for free, but that's too long to go without an oil change. I know the engine isn't running some of the time, but I have no real way to know exactly how many miles are on the engine.

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have shut the blue line off, wasn't too helpful for me. I was curious on the oil change as well, since the motor is only running about 70% of the time.

    • @hitssquad
      @hitssquad 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Patrick W 10k is conservative. It could probably go 20k without harm. (The recommended interval is 20k for all Porsches.) Changing full synthetic motor oil at 6k is just wasteful unless you're using your car as a taxi. If you doubt it, have your oil analyzed before you change it. It isn't possible to tell the condition of oil just by looking at it.

    I like Prii but to be honest I like the way old Prii looked better (especially 2nd gen).

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an interesting thought. The Jetta Hybrid has the turbo motor, but a diesel hybrid would be cool. I wonder if they don't because it's hard on diesels to start and stop frequently.

    • @iainansell5930
      @iainansell5930 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of governments, especially within the EU are looking to reduce/ban diesals within the next 10 years (talks of banning diesals in 30 cities/major towns by 2020, in the UK alone), so I'm guessing toyota are not really willing to invest in diesal hybrids, keeps their costs down i guess..

    • @dpajc056
      @dpajc056 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sucks...they are far more fuel efficient than gasoline engines and diesel as a fuel has more energy concentration than petrol...unfortunately at least here in north america it costs arm and leg to upgrade to a diesel option engine (if available at all) so you pretty much have to drive the car forever to see any real savings...

    • @iainansell5930
      @iainansell5930 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dpajc056 basically, our cities and towns are massively failing the nitrous dioxide pollution limits, caused by diesals. this stuff is harmful to health.... petrol/gasoline actually burns cleaner than diesal... I have a diesal car as it goes... so i'm going to have to change at some point...

    ok so the way u drive the Prius is like this. for example, when you're accelerating, u have to follow the hybrid indicator all the way to the speed you desire, then let go of the gas and just set it to the green car that says ev on it. make sure that green car lights up all the time. The main point is to try to stay on ev as much as possible. and you need your batteries charged for this green car to go on. Your welcome

  • @austink641
    @austink641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So after driving it a while, have you confirmed the accuracy of your Prius's claimed MPG average (60-70 mpg)? I have a 2016 Prius, and I've found when it says I get between 50-56 mpg, it is actually fairly accurate. However, occasionally I will get it to report 62+ mpg; but when I verify that after refueling, it typically only checks about 58 mpg. It's like I'm somehow tricking the software into thinking I'm getting really good mileage - it could be that I always drive in power mode, though.

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to be within a few MPG's from calculated at the pump vs what the computer says. My mileage is dropping now that it's 15 degrees F outside. In the warmer months I never saw under 60 mpg calculated at the pump.

    Hello. I was wondering if you can tell me what that additional blue line is when you're driving the car? For example, at 13:50, you're driving the car and if you accelerate too fast, the blue bar goes past the cutoff where the engine kicks in and takes it out of EV mode, but what is that additional blue bar behind it? It seems like I'm seeing 2 bars or maybe it's just the camera? Thanks!

    how long are the batteries suppose to last? I mean in months, so you need to replace them

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Sergio Cavazos Other owners have stated they get 200,000 to 300,000 miles on the original batteries.

    • @coverturtle
      @coverturtle 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you live in a hot climate, the batteries (NiMH) won't last as long as in a colder climate, but how they are used and maintained will probaby affect lifetime as well. Not regarding battery life, many owners claim Prius will last as long as 300,000 to 400,000 - especially if they are selling one!

    Why didnt you get a used Chevy volt its way better then the Prius?

    • @jettlash1000
      @jettlash1000  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was REALLY tempted, that was a very close second to the Prius. When it came down to it, I feel like Toyota has a better grasp of the hybrid world than Chevy.

      +jettlash1000 oh okay I love my volt I was suppose to be getting 35 in the battery but I get over 51 miles on the battery. But hope in the future you would join the plug in or full ev world.😊

      I think I will at some point, and I have my eye on the Prius Prime. I think if I were to get a Volt, I'd probably lease one. I really like the looks on those.

    Prius = ancient technology. I wouldn't brag about 55mpg.....people in civics get that. the minor EV range of a Prius is a JOKE. A Chevy volt destroys this car and is superior in ever possible way, plus it's Electric FIRST not a gas guzzling trendy shit box like a Prius.
