- Accomplish scholar, practitioner and meditation teacher, B.Alan Wallace, is one of the very few buddhist master to teach savasana as a legitimate posture for meditation. Here, Dr. Wallace share with us his own experience with BKS Iyengar and how his time with the Yogi has impacted his practice and still does today.

My own experiences with serious kundalini syndrome give me some insight into Alan's answer:
A) Sometimes energetic issues can be uncovered by meditation, but they can also be *caused* by it, so one must exercise caution on the meditative path. Meditating too forcefully, esp. doing powerful breathing exercises or kundalini yoga, can do this. Traumatic psychedelic experiences or prescription drug abuse that weakens stabilizing brain receptors can do this too.
B) Yoga can be very beneficial in clearing up energetic disturbances, but highly qualified energy healers are, in my opinion, even more effective.
C) Yoga alone is not sufficient in particularly serious cases - like mine. I have had to use a variety of modern and traditional technologies to tame the kundalini fire. Even now, it is an exhausting struggle at times, and I also need to take medication to aid in calming myself down.
D) In such tough cases, yoga should be considered a useful adjunct and second-line treatment to energy healing. The problem is that energy healing, esp. for kundalini syndrome, is a delicate business and few sufficiently qualified energy healers are around. IMO a useful technology is *neurofeedback,* the best of which does not 'force' the brain into any specific state but allows it to balance itself, and therefore calms down the nervous system and kundalini when used wisely. Others are now available but I haven't tried them yet, such as *photobiomodulation* to entrain transpersonal brain states.
E) Recently as in the last eight months, I have used ketamine therapy (ketamine is an anaesthetic that is also a mild psychedelic) to relax my body and mind, and it has undone deep psychic knots and therefore 'blown off' massive kundalini energy in huge waves of full-body releases that have gone on for hours. Just incredible.
P.S. Stay away from reiki. My highly experienced energy healer describes it in no uncertain terms as a fundamentally flawed technique.
so much inspiring!
RIP BKS Iyengar, 1918-2014.
So true!
Savasana…makes you easily fall asleep if you are tired
If you are sleep deprived, sleep first, get that out the way, and then hit the 'cushion' again 🙏

Sorry about my ignorance, but what's the meaning of the "B." before his name? Does anyone know?
belur
B = Bruce. But, indeed, he prefers to be called Alan.
