Elvin Jones Ari Hoenig System

- I am playing the top line of Melody 8 from "Systems", Book 1: Drumming Technique and Melodic Jazz Independence by Ari Hoenig. I based this off an Elvin Jones clinic someone documented. It is based on a 3 note motif, Snare, bass drum, hi hat, played in that order regardless of the rhythm encountered. If the measure is divisible by 3, i.e. 3, 6, 9, 12, it will repeat on the same limb, all others will start on a different limb making it more challenging. You can use any of the melodies in the book, 1 - 8, however 5 - 8 have all elements of the triplet partial making it more "Elvin" like.

Thanks for watching!
That ride sounds great!
Thanks very much!
Great work Mike! You've taken Elvin's concept and made it personal which is the whole point.
Thank you very much Joe!
Great work! And Jesus, the sound of cymbals! Wow!
Thank you very much! I love these cymbals, Istanbul Agop 30th Anniversary.
Sounds a little bit like that Tool signature on the snare.
Kit and playing sound immaculate!
Thank you very much!
Really Swinging Mike! So relaxed.
Thanks very much Dom!
cool system
Thanks!
Good job, Michael!!👏🔝
Thank you very much!
Hello Michael, I absoutely love the sound of this. Thank you for sharing. I have been long playing around with the idea of taking a rhyhtm of X amount of notes and playing it over Y voices. E.G. Mozambique bell pattern (10 notes) over 3 drums snare/floor tom/bass. Loads of fun!
Thanks very much.
Grande Michael !! Wonderful!! I try soon 👏👏👏🥁☀️
Thanks very much!
niceee

Killer man !!
Thanks very much!
Sounds great man! Awesome work!
(I'm being nosey and wondering what those hi-hats are?)
14" Istanbul Agop 30th Anniversary. And thank you!
Neat, so if Elvin Jones was playing more linear he would be in the Ari Hoenig System? And this would be the result, Interesting.
Elvin talked about how/what he practiced at a clinic, someone took notes and I took that and created other ways to practice it, taking it steps further.
@@michaelnesi0827 Is that clinic on youtube? You sound great btw.
@@alzhaimar Thank you! It is documented on a Website. There is one clinic online, it is at North Texas State, he speaks about music/hist story not his playing specifically, still amazing to watch.
@@alzhaimar Thank you! It is not on TH-cam unfortunately, it is documented on a blog site though, it is called Fouronthefloor. The drummer's name is
Jonathan Mccaslin
Man, that 30th Anniversary ride sounds great! Do you happen to know its weight?
The 22" ride is 2300 grams, the 20" is 1918 grams.
@@michaelnesi0827 thanks!
What's numero this sistem of the ari hoenig book?
It is not in his book, I created it. Let me know if you would like more details.
@@michaelnesi0827 How can you send me this excercise?!
Loving the Elvin/Ari Hoening feel on this, I understand it conceptually (swing pattern, w/ hh foot, snare, and kick, repeating in that pattern underneath) but the sheet music would be immensely resourceful!
@@michaelmintchev6010 I will write something up.
@@michaelmintchev6010 find me on facebook, and I will send you a file.
Can I have a transcription too?
