My wife and I were in Pittsburgh staying in a Hotel (I think it was this same year)... I will never forget this... I went out on the terrace and was sitting there just getting some fresh air and I happened to look down and to my right... in a parking lot across the street a man was sitting on a bench outside of a building and was smoking a cigarette and sipping coffee out of a large metal thermos cup. I called for my wife to come out on the terrace. I pointed at the guy and said "look, that guy looks like Don Williams"! My wife said "THAT IS DON WILLIAMS"!! We had no idea that the building was a little theater- the hotel faced the back of the building. Anyway, my wife yells out "Hi Mr. Williams"! He looked up, smiled, gave us a wave. Not long after we heard the music start, and you could hear the show relatively well considering... We sat out on that terrace, in the cold, huddled together, and listened to the entire concert as we sang along with the songs. It was very romantic.
Wonderful story. Just about two months after this performance a friend of mine and I drove from Massachusetts to South Carolina to see Don perform at a theater. It was a beautiful performance and I am so thankful to have that memory.
The line "Nothing makes a sound in the night like the wind does. But you ain't afraid if you're washed in the blood like I was" is in reference to the Blood of Jesus.
