Born n bred in Salford from 1949. Went to the market every Saturday.
I wonder if the Alan Starkie below is any relation to an Alan Starkie I knew in the 60s, if my memory serves me this Starkie was a Detective/policeman (not uniform). He used to say his car was a "Company Car". Nice guy. He helped me out a couple of times.

An old lady who lived next door in the two up two downs near Lissadel Street in about 1969 told me about when a bull escaped from the train station? and ran up Cross Lane! She also told me another odd story about WW1. She told me that sometime during the war, she looked up and I remember her words - "It looked like a big silver fish in the sky". I presume she was talking about an airship or Zeppelin. I can't understand why there would be Zeppelins over Salford but I don't have any reason not to believe her.

The people were moved out to working class reservations like Little Hulton, or put in high-rise human filing cabinets, so that some big shots could boast that they now had some stretches of unloved grass and a few trees where there used to be a vibrant community.
