- Today I helped a friend of mine with maintaining his motor-bicycle. The Hornet was actually easier to work on that I was worried about so this is something you could definitely do at home. We fully remove the tank, change all the spark plugs and lastly do the oil and oil filter.

Have a 2008 600 Hornet and used your video to change the Plugs. Excellent stuff and thanks a million.
Only a hobby mechanic, and lazy to boot.
Managed to modify your method by not removing the tank. took of the bolts close to the Bars. Tilted tank up - took off the Earthing strap, and Wedged tank with a block of wood - Kinda like a draw bridge. Was careful not to damage any fuel lines. Got the tank out of the way.

Yes indeed, I think I mentioned that was a grand way to do it too I just pulled the tank off so people could see better and cus I'm a clumsy ape and could have probably damaged something otherwise :) I do that with my own bike but when I work on friends bikes I like to be extra careful :)

i just change the spark plugs on my bike (hornet 08) and the same spark plug was also rusted on mine :O. keep making service videos on the hornet these are realy helpful
Could have been either the same issue with people not changing them or maybe it's an issue with the inside under the tank not drying well in these bikes. I will indeed try to thanks for watching :)
You'll find that getting to cylinders 2 & 3 it's wise to remove the coils and this will give loads more room. Also, your CB600F, is different from the earlier Hornet 600s. The carb'd Hornets need the tank removed (as the fuel tap needs disconnecting from the fuel line and vacuum line) however your bike, the tank is designed just to hinge up the tank and propped up so you don't have to disconnect the fuel line (or the overflow and vent lines or sender).
Regarding your rubber grip in the spark plug socket, clean the inside and a couple dabs of super glue to retain the rubber.
Not my bike I was helping a friend. I think I explained I removed the tank and it gave me better light and space as I'm tall and working in that garden wasn't the easiest. Fairly sure I said in the video you don't need to. I generally do remove tanks tho as it also protects them and removing them isn't hard usually.

remember to twist the sparkplug counter clockwise in the beginning .. so it "drops" into the groove .. and then tighten it up
I thought I'd mentioned that in the vid, made it a verrry long time ago tho so I could be wrong!
An oil filter wrench is 3 bucks. Hammering a screwdriver through the oil filter can ruin the block thread. GorillaBiker is a very appropriate name for your channel.
I have one at home, this wasn't my house, my tools or my bikes and they job needed to get done :D

I use a piece of plastic tube or rubber on plug end ro get it started once its treaded just pull it off
Yep I've seen that done loads, weirdly I never think of it when I go to do sparks but a nice way to avoid wrecking threads :)
I feel so proud I managed to change my oil by myself thanks to your video! One thing I'm a bit worried about is that I left the oil cap open while the engine was running so I could refill it. It was open for about 3-5 minutes while I was pouring the rest of the oil. Do you think that would have caused any damage to the engine? Thanks again for your videos!

Thanks fir the vid. My bike sometimes has a idle problem, ice twisted the idle switch a bit to bring it from 900 to 1300 but when I'm driving along almost asking at 30 or 40 miles an hour the bike jerks like it's loosing fuel or some thing
You're more than welcome :) So at 30-40 what type of revs are you at? My first thing I'd check, this may sound silly but I've seen it affect bikes weirdly first hand, is the battery. If you're battery is just about hanging on it can mess up ignition and it's an easy fix/check if it's that. Even just check how old it is. Other easy things are chain tension/alignment and your sprocket wear. Send me an email with all the details if you like and I'll try help :) Other than checking the battery, chain and sprockets, spark plugs you could also try running a bit of injector cleaner through the bike with a tank of fuel. I'm not mad on the stuff but it won't hurt the bike.

@@TheGorillaBiker at 30 to 40 miles an hour the revs feel very high to me as they are about 3000 rpm. When I'm driving at 60 miles an hour the bike has really high revs but it's my first four cylinder bike, but the revs feel really high

I am sure a service oil change is 2.8 liters... 3.5 is for a dry fill when the bike is 1stly assembled
I wouldn't ever trust any measurement like that, it might get you close but you could even have some oil left in the system. I fill it, fill the galleries with running it for 2-3 minutes and check the level again.
@@TheGorillaBiker please google to what happens if you overfill oil in your engine, the level must be between those 2 lines on the window.

For your model a service change with new filter included is aprox. 2.8 liters, I am really sure!

It really doesn't matter what the amount is in volume as I checked through the window. The bike is still running perfectly over a year later :)

Hello. The fuel filter is actually built in to the tank as part of the fuel sender assembly. You could see it when I removed the tank, secured by 6 bolts. You can remove the entire assembly if you wish to change the filter

Would you suggest fully synthetic or part synthetic as I noticed you filled it with part synthetic?
Honestly go by the book, I use semi synthetic in everything as it's a bit cheaper and I change it out every 4000km or so. So your discretion really. Just make sure you don't change the oil type! If you're using fully or semi synthetic stay with it as if you change you could mess up the clutch pack.

Hmmmm....you can use an oil flush thing I think and then technically use whatever you want. Semi synthetic would probably be a good bet though
Hi, which Size is the Spark Plug Tool, to pull out the old Spark Plugs ?
It's a standard 10mm spark socket as far as I remember. That's 10mm threads, as far as I remember that equates to a 16mm socket. Best thing to do is grab a spark plug and bring it with you to the tool shop!

Less than an hour. I can't remember exactly but it wasn't long.
What type of paddock stand did you use on the hornet?
Just the one my buddy owned. It lifts off the swingarm.
@@TheGorillaBiker Did it stay stable enough while you were working on it? I've heard random stories of these type of stands flipping up, allowing the bike to drop
@@vwukben it did indeed, rock solid to be fair. Just checked with him it was just a random one he ordered off halfords online. Any actual brand paddock stand should do it really once you're on level ground, you could always chock the front wheel too if you were nervous
Hello, maybe you can help me.i changed spark plugs and cleaned fuel injectors because when it was past 9krpm it was struggling to go forward, now its better, but when im past 9k rpm full throtle the motorcycle goes but when i release the throtle just a litle bit it goes faster than full throtle i dont know whats that but its really is annoying. maybe you can help . Thanks
I honestly couldn't help much without seeing the bike myself. It sounds like throttle body sync tho or possibly throttle cables, it could also be issues with the bike breathing, have you changed the air filter etc recently?

A motor factor years ago, you should get similar in any decent auto shop, it was about 60 euro I think.
