I heard an ancient skeleton spawn near my crew mates but they were very new at the game and didn’t know what kind of skeleton it was and instead of fighting they just followed it thinking it would lead them to an treasure chest.
I remember that i got an ancient skeleton when i was just started to play, i didn't even know what ancient coins are and i just hear that sound from a bush, i just shit myself in that second
One of em spawned when I was with my friend. Thing is, it happened on one of the worst islands of all islands it could've spawned on. We were on Sunken Grove, and it was night. So, we were running around in the dark until it despawned.
This is my worst nightmare that has nearly a 102% chance of becoming a reality in the sea of glitches… also whatever you have done has worked, I’ve been recommended this video like 500 times and watched it multiple times
I hadn't found a single one of those skeletons in 100 hours of gameplay. Yesterday I found three in the span of 5 minutes and I have a recording of it :)

Those skellies give you ancient coins. The skellies can be found randomly in game or you can earn the coins through season rewards and leveling up the Plunder Pass. And you can purchase them with real money. Then the coins are used to purchase things in the Pirate Imporium like cosmetics, pets, emotes, and the Plunder Pass. Also if you purchase the Plunder Pass once you'll more than likely earn enough coins back to purchase it every season. Sorry I'm sure that was way too much info.
I've never bought ancient coins and I have three pets one with an outfit and I stil have 100 odd ancient coins. You get them from the season renown xp every 8 or 10 levels. Killed a few ancient skellys but not had this glitch yet.
Honestly I never remember the sound cue, but whenever I've encountered it I know because it's music I've never heard before and it scares the shit out of me

This teleportation has happened to me too but I was holding a key and it teleported me under my ship and I took damage when it happened. You can imagine what happened next.
The skeleton can spawn anywhere but it’s completely random. It spawning is very rare since they give you ancient coins when killed (basically the Sea Of Thieves version of V-Bucks).
It is very rare and random. Onyl thing you can do is listen for the sound clue and find and kill it fast when you hear it. It drops a random amount of ancient coins, a ingame currency that can only be obtained by paying real-life money, finding these skeletons and leveling up the plunder pass.
I probably have less playtime and encountered 3 or 4. It depends on how much PVP you do vs PVE. Because the skeletons only spawn on islands and if you fighting naval and boarding all the time you dont spend any time on an island where on could spawn. Since I have started focussing on PVP I havent seen any since I rarely stay for extended periods on an island.
I got like 500 a.c so far from ancient skeletons and all because of one of my friends. They always spawn next to him. He got like 5 spawns meanwhile i got none :D
I've had him spawned on me 2 days ago, was my first encounter, but due to sun I couldn't see that boi, so he hid in forest area and I've lost the encounter Sadge
Chances are random. You cant do anything to improve them. Just listen for the sound clue and make sure to find and kill it fast. They mostly spawn very close to you.
