@@FormalFilmsProductions yeah I love both the book and musical but the book feels like a darker Animal, the musical feels almost like a prequel to the poppy, family friendly original oz movie, and the book feels like a prequel to the darker, almost nightmarish original book version of oz. Also certain elements feel like they work better in the book, fiyero, in my opinion, should always be black. Honestly my dream would be a miniseries combining the wicked musical and and all of the wicked books, and the original wizard of oz movie and books.

3:18 I like that Stephanie J. Block was humble enough to choose to do the tour rather than trying to fill Idina's shoes on Broadway even though Idina was chosen over Stephanie to be the original Elphaba on Broadway! It shows a lot of class on Stephanie's Part!

I worked on the show in Toronto and she was an all around kind and wonderful person to everyone at the theatre including the fans who waited at stage door. Didn't matter if it was a two show day or not, she would be out there for as long as there was anyone who wanted to talk to her.

Honestly, I don't think she needed to necessarily be humble. Personal opinion but her acting (whilst less book accurate) was far more accurate to how Elphie's softer personality is in the musical. Idina was chosen mainly because of the fame she had already acquired. Stephanie is technically the first and original Elphaba. She also arguably sang better. So I don't know if she was doing anyone a favour; seeing her as the standby would have been an honor! (and if you ask me as lead...)

It was a 1986 musical based on the famous doll, but it was a broadway flop lasting 5 performances, due to it's dark storyline. Interesting enough, It was a hit in Moscow, causing a documentary to be made. The whole footage of the show is lost, but a audio bootleg survived, and a news report showing footage, Some of The OG cast is still alive including Ivy Austin who played Raggedy Ann, and Patricia Snyder the director. With all these, I think it'll make a fantastic episode! 🥰💖

I was 16 years old when I first saw Wicked. It was 2014, and I was on a school trip with my other theatre geek peers to England. I get to say that my first time seeing Wicked was at the Apollo Victoria with Savannah Stevenson and Willemijn Verkaik. That was such a special moment in my life that I shared with my friends. I’ll never forget it. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and dedication on this documentary! 💚

Been waiting for this since I saw your first wonderful video and this does not disappoint, so informative and full of details about the show which is so close to everyone’s heart! Those interviews we’re amazing and the stories shared where beautiful, that moment shared about going on on the first time give me goosebumps!
The section on POC was wonderful and I am so happy you explored it..my gut feeling is I think wicked the movie will be a very diverse cast and I am so behind this...I have seen some dream castings which would make this happen and I really hope we see it, I always say Jordan Fisher would be perfect for either of the main males, he could play cool or nerdy with ease!!!
Thank you for videos like this making us love and miss equally seeing shows on stage..I really can’t wait to hear Glinda welcome us back to the wonderful world of theatre soon!!

Beautifully done. Informative threading of the story with touching, well done interviews. Laurel's story about her debut and Aunt Kathy and Kathy the woman she met in church on that day... I have a similar story about my grandmother and sincerely believe it was her aunt letting her know she was there for her debut that day. We saw Ginna Claire Mason perform in Denver in 2019 and it was my first time finally getting to see a show I'd wanted to see for almost 20 years! It was pure magic. Planning on taking my daughters when it swings through town again. Such a special, magical show. Thank you for this. A wonderful way to spend a Friday evening!

I disagree that it's a story about racism. It a story about how society views differences. I think it's a story for anyone who's ever been made to feel "wrong" for being different. If you are the only one who has green skin, if you are interested in science as a girl in school, if you love ballet as a boy, if you are larger or smaller in size than what's considered "average", or if you are a high-functioning adult with a mental health issues, you often feel like the younger Elphaba in society,.....until you find those that can help you Defy Gravity. 🧙‍♀️🧙🏾‍♀️🧙🏿🧙‍♀️🧙🏼‍♀️

I’m from germany and I always listened to the original soundtrack when I was younger because my mother loved the musical but was never able to see it.
I finally got the chance to see Wicked with my mother in Hambourg yesterday and it was simply amazing. Even tho the costumes are modernized in the new version in germany, the magic is not lost and every song is performed beautifully.
Glinda and Elphaba really make this show special.
And just a few weeks ago the main cast of the movie has been announced and I am so excited to see Cynthia as a black Elphaba and I can‘t wait to see how Ariana Grande does as Glinda.
Oh and thank you so much for your video. So much effort!!!

It’s very expensive and difficult to have every show get a proshot. I believe all are recorded for archival purposes. I will say, however, that the concept of bootlegs hits different during a time when theatre is very limited. Perhaps for shows that have closed, it wouldn’t be as damaging/difficult to release a bootleg of? Idk, just trying to see both sides here.

Wicked has been such a huge impact on my life. I first discovered it when I was first entering high school and it perfectly mirrored my feelings to a tee and something about it just grabbed my soul and it never let go.
This video was incredible and I'm so thankful that the creator took the time to do such a deep dive because I learned things about my favorite Broadway musical that I had never known and that was a wonderful gift.
If they screw up the movie I will never forgive them! This story is so precious to me and I hope it runs as long as Cats has been and longer!

A few years ago they filmed and released a DVD of Miss Saigon in London, filmed on stage and it looks incredibly filmic and I'd love to see Wicked given the same treatment. Yes we are all looking forward to the movie but there is always a fear that it won't capture the magic. I worked backstage at Phantom in London when they released the movie and it was OK to a degree but generally very lacklustre and didn't capture any magic from the stage show - they even cut short the title song and the Phantom's scars were truly forgettable. If Wicked is to work they need to re-create a lot of the Wizard Of Oz sets and make it technicolour. Not sure about the copyright of the look of certain characters, but if it's possible they need to really go in that direction. I can't wait to see a movie, but it needs someone with a true love for the show to make it WICKED!

One point - I know sometimes people feel it’s common to see Jewish actress on Broadway but actually this is a form of diversity representation and it’s important to acknowledge it. Especially knowing the rise of antisemitism in US and the rest of the world.

And this superb documentary that you made really help to re-tell the story and celebrate all that talent, emotion, dreams and magic of the story and its cast. I’m so excited I can’t sleep! This was so incredibly well researched and put together. I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about Wicked but I learned so much - I am so curious about the non-replica production, and so thrilled to learn that there has finally been a black Galinda and a black Elphaba (although it's disappointing that there haven't been a lot more and that they didn't start doing this until what seems like fairly recently). I think you did a fantastic job weaving together the disparate parts of the Wicked phenomenon, with all the stuff about the adaptation process, the backgrounds of the creative team, the story of how the show changed between it's first tryout and Broadway, its initial reception (it was so cool that you had interviews with members of the original cast!!), the critical and hehe popular responses, the expansion beyond Broadway, its impact on pop culture and global impact, its legacy and how it needs to change - it was so comprehensive! You reminded me of how moving this story is, and how musical theatre can unite and inspire people and be a force, hehe "for good". Thank you so, so, so much for this peek behind the curtain and for shedding some light on the mysterious process of how Broadway musicals (or hit Broadway musicals) are put together. You are a "wickedly talented" documentarian indeed! I feel like I'm going to come back to this video a lot - but in terms of your future videos - might I suggest Phantom of the Opera as a topic?
